I haven't read 'The Crucible' but I'll check it out, I'm looking for a new book to read. It really annoys me that most people don't really read books anymore, they're more interested in the gossip mags (which are ok now and then) but you can't beat a good book.

if you like "The Crucible" I'd also recommend "Death of a Salesman"...more contemporary and quite different in tone but also a very good Miller play.

You should've used the day to take a look at Mannheim. There are some nice sites to check out. There's an interesting Holocaust Memorial in the town centre. But maybe not as interesting as Planet Earth ;-)

also, "the crucible" was really about America in the 1950s, as opposed to the 1600s. Arthur Miller used to Salem witch trials as a metaphor for what was going on during the Cold War with communism and everything. I bet that just added a whole other level of heaviness to the book. it did for me!
