  • what construction method did you use? Ply on frame, planked or what? She is a beaut for sure. I have John Gardner's Dory book and there is plans for a 27ft St. Pierre.

  • Howdy. It is glass over ply and in the berth there is a veneer of Macrocarpa T&G. Gardner provided the inspiration for Beatrice. Another great book is Paul White's Building the St Pierre Dory. It was this book that determined me to say, yep, that's it.

  • Hi there. I just had a minor correction. Building the St. Pierre Dory is by Mark White. My father has owned the boat that is the example in that book for the last 27 years. She still floats in Homer, Alaska and I have a lot of fond memories of growing up with her.

Beatrice is a beautiful boat, by the way.

  • Sorry. My bad.

Do you have any images you would be prepared to share? I found the build very inspiring and the overall look is elegant. It would be great to see how the old girl has aged.

  • I've got a good photo on my website. Apparently I can't post websites on this thing. My site is call "Ian Dickson Photography" and you can google it. It comes up as one of the first two or three sites. When you find it click on 'Portfolio', then on 'Other'. You should be able to find her there.

Let me know what you think if you can.

  • The boat is beatiful. Is that an inboard or an outboard in a well? ....and if you dont mind answering....what is the horse power?

  • Thank you, yes she is a lovely looker. The engine is an outboard in a well, Yamaha 60hp High Thrust with a 14x11 prop (I've had the prop adjusted to maximise thrust at mid-range revs).

  • Very interesting, and much nicer to watch than yet another speed boat. :-)

  • Beautiful boat! We build Banks dories(and the occasional St. Pierre)in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia, Canada, and know what awesome sea boats they are.

  • Nice looking boat. Can you trailer her? We have a 23 foot Nexus and cruise in Washington and British Columbia.

  • Yup. Beatrice lives on a trailer most of the time. Saves antifoul :)
