Wow. Fantastic run. Doing a road course in a Daytona USA car is like knitting while wearing oven mitts. IMO, getting through the whole course without wrecking or spining out once is a far great accomplishment than finishing 1st (it's pretty hard *not* to here).

Supposedly if you drive the course backwards (and can put up with the crew chief nagging you) the statue of Jeffery will appear upside-down. You know if that's ever been proven? I've yet to see visual proof, and I'm not quite talented enough to pull it off in the game myself.

In the settings, choose car numbers to change colours,

1 red,

2 blue,

3 yellow,

4 green,

5 black,

6 pink,

7 light blue,

8 orange.

If its in stand alone mode, cars will be blue and red for auto, and yellow and red for manual, same as the arcade cars in arcade mode on Saturn.

-1 GB NVIDIA GeForce GT220 (apparently this is low-end, but better than a lot of video cards that run Model 2 at full speed)

It DOES run at 57? I thought it was 60. Thanks for clarifying, I was worried for a second.

Sure does, 57 fps.

That is a pretty stout system, i dont know about the card or where it sits on the list, i have a 9800 GT and it runs perfectly fine with that.

I was running it at full speed and perfectly smooth on an AMD Athlon 64 4000+, with 2 gigs of DDR400, and a 6800 Ultra.

If its not running smooth, have a look at the virtual memory setting, turn it off and see how you go. Especially if youre using Windows 7. You dont need it with 6 gigs of ram, which is more than youll use.

Yeah, Fraps says it's at 57 even when the FPS counter says 49-52. Looks like 57-60.

But the Model 2 specs say it runs with 180k tris at up to 60 fps. In Daytona, you usually get 2500-5000 tris, so why 57 fps? Is that a Model 2 step 1 thing, and Model 2A+ are superior in framerate?

No idea, its just how it is i think. I get the same framerate in all of the games i play on there. :)

I wonder what an actual Model 2 board gets. After all, Model 2 Emu isn't complete yet (though it's almost there, idk if anything's going on behind the scenes currently). The only other game I know that runs at 57 fps is Rush 2049 (or something in that series), and it's not Model 2.

Ah. Glad you clarified that, because I was originally disappointed in the fact I wasn't getting a perfect framerate. But now that I know it's 57 fps, the framerate counter needs to be made more accurate.

Indeed. Now I just need to work on not sucking at the game. I can't get 1st on easy mode in any track. Final turn of the first two are really hard to get for me.

Its pretty easy once you know how, coming 1st on beginner isnt the easiest thing to do in any case, you have to do pretty well all the way or the lead car is too far away to catch.

The only corner you need to slow for on beginner is the last turn, i usually come up to that turn in the 2nd lane from the left, and around about the sign with the ninja on it i turn toward the right briefly, then to left as i pull 2nd gear, then back into 4th gear about 300kph,should exit about 310-315 like that.

On advanced, you go full speed to the right hand turn at the checkpoint just after the tunnel, go 4th-2nd-4th there as quick as you can, should come out about 320-325, next corner is 4th-2nd-4th for me, ive seen others do 4th-2nd-4th-3rd-4th, exit is between 305 & 315, the hairpin at the bottom of the hill is 4th-1st then back to 4th about 275-280, coming to final corner stay all the way right, as you go under the arch, swing left, pull 2nd as you turn hard right, then back to 4th about 300-305

My goodness! You NAILED that final hairpin I still get nightmares about having to deal with that final hairpin in this game. Expert-level race courses in Sega games are usually unreal and crazy, and this course is no different. While it features my favorite song of all Daytona USA songs, it can also be a brutal course to try to win on. The arcade version of these songs sound much better than home versions.
