PS Dont u love all the neg. comments from stupid people they don't own or know anything about the breed. ninja loves to run I take her hiking everyday for hours, she swims and runs of the tread mill. It's a shame they are classified in the terrier class and not the working dog class bc my pits love to work. In closing if you don't like our dogs then piss off go watch videos about labs jumping thru hoops.....
Love it! Ninja and smoke should be friends ha. I hate when I see people with their dog tied to the treadmill it shouldn't be forced your dog should want to do it!! Thanks for sharing your video with me!
Smoke has been enjoying the treadmill walks ever since he started. He is very excited each time you mention the word "T" "R" "E" "A" "D" "M" "I" "L" "L"......
Today he did 4.7 miles in one hour when I had to make him get off; gave him the 10 mph burst for a bit.
Just to update you on the encouragement; I say nothing to him, he has water on the side, gets off drinks and gets back on.
For those thinking I was doing something negative to the dog; "EAT THAT!!!"
@ ksudvm2b - thanks for the positive commentary. I have slowed him a bit although he stills looks and barks for more. I will show you guys some day how he asks for the treadmill and the speed
@ BoarderMountainX15 - thanks for trying to draw me as an abuser of my dog. This dog loves to run on th treadmill and personally it is not fast enough. What you see is him allowing himself to fall behind so he can pounce and leap forward.
Thanks for the comments and I am researching more; he begs
Good job turning the speed down. Pits love to work, and love to be active, so it's good that you found something for him to do (and great that it was so easy for you to get him on it, I had to spend hours teaching mine to jog on a treadmill). Just be sure and keep the workouts moderate! 7 minute miles is still really, really fast for a dog. Do some reading about LSD (long slow distance) training, that's how race horses are conditioned to prevent injuries.
I looked at the time/miles today and it really is not 5 minute miles, it is more like a 7 minutes not that that makes that big of a difference.
I tuned it back a bit today on the recommendation and he enjoyed it still but he gets upset when it is over. really, I never asked this dog to get on the treadmill, one day my mother in law turned it on an that was it. He was hooked.
Now if it only worked that way for me. LOL!!! thanks everyone.
okay... to mitruxx... you cant run them on a treadmill for hours a day. youre not even supposed to exceed 30 minutes at a MODERATE SPEED for the owner of this dog. thats extremely dangerous to run him that fast on the treadmill. you obviously saw that he kept falling behind and if you keep pushing him like that, he could get seriously hurt and his joints are gonna be garbage in a few years. id take a bullet for this breed, but id NEVER put my pitbull through that. im throroughly disgusted.
Also, having watched it all the way through, it looks like you're running him awfully hard - especially if he's doing 5 minute miles!! Like I said, Pits will do what you ask of them, even if it is really hurting them. His joints will be trashed in a few years if you keep working him like that.
He looks more interested in killing the treadmill than running on it. lol Just watch his paws, as treadmill belts are pretty abrasive and will wear down his foot pads surprisingly quickly. Also, be sure and do a warm up and cool down at a slower speed to prevent muscle injuries/cramps. My experience is that Pits don't know how to pace themselves to prevent injuries.
@ mitruxx - I have been lucky with him. He is well mannered, no chewing, destruction, etc... I am scared to let him go too long because I do not know what is good for him. Right now he is doing 10 minutes and about 2 miles 5-10 times per week.
You are right... A good dog is a dog that is spent!
That is awesome. I wish I had the room for a treadmill. I'd put my brats on there for a couple hours per day just for the exercise. A good dog is a tired dog. No more chewing or any of that jazz when they're exhausted. Love it. Nice work.
How long and at what speed does he run?

what you see is you TELLING him to pounce and leap forward when he falls behind. good intentions, but more research should be done.
