For a real good Cuban sandwich try any "Latin American Cafe" in south Florida. There is one at Bayside in Miami. If you want to kick it up a notch eat it with chorizo español. Trust me on this one. Then wash everything up with a Cuban coffee and a pastelito de guayaba. Ñoo... Is like dying and going to heaven and meeting God in person. (And BTW I am not Cuban)
To keep the appearance and taste of the Original Cuban Sandwich you would use other breads that look and taste like Cuban Bread, example: French Bread. However using other breads might completely depart from the original. You could try a wrap with flour tortillas or even Pita Bread,,,,,,,for interest.
