I really liked your videos with the 000-15S but i think this one is your masterpiece. Really moving (as usual but even more) I think you have made a true upgrade with the OM-21... It is a guitar with a sweet sound and feeling..very special.. I love It!!! Thanks!
@lejoe48 thanks man-- it's nice to have some affirmation that I didn't waste my money. You can feel the difference playing it: smoother neck, better tuners, richer overtones from the rosewood back and sides, etc. What really sold me is the punchy midrange. Cheers
Thank You! and congrats. You can listen the OM-21 in the whole Dylan's Blood on the Tracks recording (I've read it)...I specially like in "Buckets of Rain". cheers!
Thanks for doing this song. Although relatively obscure, I've always liked this song. Always thought it was Cockburn's rant against Reagan's and George H's "are you better off today than you were (when Carter was prez)" promises or maybe against the prosperity gospel televangelists. Dunno. I do remember going to a concert in the 80's where he prefaced "Call it Democracy" with "This one's going out to George (H) Bush". No love lost there, I guess.
One of the first songs in which I was introduced to bruce , however I thought the song was an expression and glimpse into the next life and that the candy man was reference to Christ.
Thanks. As to our differing interpretation, I'm not clear how a christian reading would do. Each verse describes a kind of false utopia, and then announces that the candy man is gone. It seems to be much the same sentiment as Trouble with Normal: a sense that people are having false optimism as the world is in decline
Bruce's music at the best of times can be difficult too untangle and can be loaded with ambiguity so maybe what you say is actually correct
Ive not attempted to understand the meaning of the song other then the references that are in verse 3 in particular "something for nothing, new lamps for old ,the streets will be platinum, never mind gold" are to my understanding all biblical references . New lamps for old is a reference to christ and the other 2 are descriptions of the biblical heaven..
this was perfect for my Sunday morn..

Very nice Paul!
Sweet sound from that Martin.
We are looking forward to seeing Bruce in a small venue in Northern California in April.
