This money should be going to math and science, which is where Americans need to work on the most. We're already trailing behind the rest of the countries in terms of math k-12 education.
The school system is never going to be fixed in the present "government" schools. They do not want critical thinkers and education give us that. Most of the art supported by the NEA is never seem by the majority of the people. My question is why does bush need to be adding money to the fund... does he have extra tax money after the retarded spending he does that he needs to "make disappear"?
Without it, hundreds if not thousands of shows each year would be impossible. It IS the role of the government to promote cultural events as best it can.
A problem with government funding of things like art is that the money comes with caveats. "If you're taking federal funds, you can't create 'art' that we would find offensive."
I'm interested to know whether or not any such requirements have come with that increase in funding by the Bush administration.
i did not know he did that!!! but still i hate bush!!! i just hope that who ever is the next president does a better job then bush n that we should leave Iraq n let them do whatever they want to do!!
Did the NEA pay for this?

Makes sense. Another way for the government to dumb down American intelligence for the upcoming brave new world.

interesting question. i'm a big arts supporter but this is definitely NOT the role of government, especially at a federal level.

Not necessarily. "Piss Christ" was a government funded work. It made Andes Serrano famous too.
