I have an Elite and it has the BenQ VAD6038 disc drive and it had two ribbon plug wires but the other two wires are soldered witch can be done if you know the skill. Take Note to this. Why I put it. Got my xbox in 2009 witch also leads me to say look at the posting date of this video.

How about the DVD key, every xbox 360 dvd drive has it's own key. If you just replace the drive you can't play games!!!

You need to flash it. You not always flash it with hacked firmware you also can flash it with official/original firmware. With one change..the key!

You need to flash it. you make a backup of the original firmware of the old drive or the drive with itś old firmware [some retain the drive up flash with different firmware].

In that backup is said DVD key you can extract that and inject it into the firmware you are about to write into the new..or the old drive.

You need this key else your xbox 360 is a fancy dvd player and paper weight. Now a simple google search on xbox 360 dvd key will show you the way to hacker forums.

I got the same. You can't play games because the code on the console doesn't match with the code on the drive. Either need to flash the drive with the old drive's code, or replace the broken part of the old drive with a part from the new drive

So I followed the video up to the sticker which voids the warranty and am not sure what to do. I had the three red rings but they went away and my 360 got screwed by the disc drive problem. I followed your instructions & replaced bad drive with a new one w/ matching firmware & installed the original drive key, but xbox still will not read games, only dvds???? I am using original 360 games and it has never been flashed. Error message received:

"To play this disc, put it in an Xbox 360".

Tried several games and they are all read as dvds?

your video was awesome I took apart the xbox 360 with no problem. The BIG problem was when I opened it I had the old internal guts and the new dvd player did not match up at all. Needless to say I was BEYOND pissed. So now I went out and bought and arcade a NEW one. So in the future maybe you should mention if you have old guts or new guts in your 360. Not made just thought you should mention that. And yes the back tabs were a pain.

A specific drive. Just do a search for your drive's model number on eBay and you should find a lot for sale.

Thanks dude, looks like it was goin to work, but i took the circuit board out thinkin i was gonna usi it in the new disk drive, but then realised that the drive itself was fine so i put the board back in. now the 360 wont recognise the drive, even though it is the origional one that came with it. Now it is coming up with E65 when it is connected!
