  • I haven't heard this song in years! I love it! Thanks for posting! Never knew who sang it.

  • This isn't Prince produced. Jesse Johnson put this together.

  • The guitar player in this group (Oliver Leiber) went on to produce a few of Paula Abdul's best known hits- specifically "Straight Up", "Forever Your Girl", "The Way That You Love Me" and "Cold Hearted".

  • @MyJunior1975

    That's disappointing.

  • @beowulven Shocker, ain't it? LOL!!!!

  • @MyJunior1975 That's how the Minneapolis Sound Rolls!

  • @MEX0688 As a proud supporter of all things Minneapolis, I concur, LOL!!!!

  • @MyJunior1975 lmao, My uncle is the bassist in this video. So that's awesome!

  • This song/video is so damn sexy!

  • Yes Prince worked wiith alot of unknown artists in his youth Phat

  • One of many Killer guitar solos by Jessie Johnson on tis cut, Post the Long version at the end if you listen you can here him say "Don't Fuck With Me"

  • Chris Cox's sister?

  • This song is sooooo awesome,....I wish we could get stuff like this today!

  • she kinda looks like Glenn Close in "Fatal Attraction". great voice!

  • I still love this song, thanks for having the original video. the male model in this video went on to be a actor in movies and a tv series.

  • I personally like this song more than their hit "Everybody Dance"

  • Hey Phat I would like your opinion on this when it comes to pure guitar playing talent pick between Prince,JJ and a surprise third option STANLEY JORDAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Big Phat that video u sent didn't come through who was in the video besides Star?Send it to me again please

  • Big Phat hey do you think maybe Prince and Jesse did a double team playing guitar on this underrated hit from the 80's?????? Just a thought??????????

  • @dal4018 Prince was all over the place, but i think by this time Jesse felt he needed to do this himself, U have to remember Prince would change his name a lot when he helped or worked with others. So it is very hard to say. I love them both though

  • @bigphat200 Hey Phat your right about Prince being all over the place he helped a little known jazz artist get started named Eric Reed a sax player he played background guitar for this guy.Even wrote some songs for this guy late 80's or early 90's

  • now thiz waz musik not like 2day's crap

  • @JEEminn3000 Hey JEEminn u a fan of Lady Gaga I call her Lady Vomit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • If you don't know..prince is all over this freakin song! It has his sound.

  • @superchick76 I agree its his royal badness up and down.

  • This song was HOT!!!!!! Nobody was Hip to this and Jesse Johnson's I Want My Girl!!!! OOOOOOOOOOOh they were Hot!!!

  • This is 3rd, 4th generation Prince....Prince begat The Time, The Time begat Jesse J., & Jesse J. begat Ta Mara. This was a Jesse production after his solo success kicked in when The Time members went their separate ways after Purple Rain. And there's no mistaking that it's Jesse playing thoese guitar lines...

  • @Tarantulisimo Do you remember "The Family" and their kick ass version of "Nothing Compares to You" It was really good.

  • @jimboedwardlee I have the CD, Back in the day I had the casset, Nice memories from the 80's

  • Big Phat sorry but these guys came under the influence of his royal badness as well just like Jessie did.

  • This is one of Prince's more underrated groups from his musical family but they had plenty of talent

  • @dal4018 Not Prince I'm thinking Jesse Johnson. Just listen to that base line. Sooooooo funky

  • @bigphat200 Sorry Phat but that bass line is his royal badness all the way but JJ is no slouch in the bass playing department

  • @dal4018 I don't know, not knowing the difference between Prince and Jesse sound is like confusing your wife twin sister for her.... close but no cigar. Jesse staggered every note in his cords. Prince staggers every 3rd or 4th cord I know this sounds extremely geeky but i love this sound. u could be right, but.............

  • @bigphat200 Hey Phat I'am listening to this song and I may be wrong and u could be right I was listening to Skillet and that definitely was JJ playing bass on that classic.

  • @dal4018 Its that Minneapolis sound all those guys are from the same school of music. Got to love that sound

  • @bigphat200 Your right Big Man its that forgotten Minneapolis sound BOY DO I MISS JUST LIKE IT.THANK GOD FOR YOUTUBE.

  • @bigphat200 Hey Big Man u a fan of Alexander O'Neal????????

  • @dal4018 Am i a fan of Alexander O'Neal.. Yes and no. i like his songs but for some reason i disdain the man. I don't feel right about him at all. Strange maybe, but true

  • @bigphat200 WHY WHAT DO U HAVE AGAINST THE MAN WHO WAS TO BE THE ORIGINAL LEAD FOR THE TIME.CHECK OUT HIS BIO WARNER BROS DIDN'T WANT HIM AS THE LEAD APPARENTLY THEY COULDN'T SEE PAST HIS DARK SKIN COLOR AND QUITE POSSIBLY SEE HE COULD HAVE BEEN THE SECOND COMING OF THE LATE GREAT OTIS REDDING.

  • @dal4018 I don't know, i feel funny about him, i was more into Billy Ocean and Ready for the World

  • This is one of Prince's more underrated groups from his musical family but they had plenty of talent

  • I love all that Chez checker and neon eighties Funk slickness! Great video! I havent seen this in jeeers!

  • i meant U Turn me UP not ON haha...

  • @1phunkateer hey ...I havent forgotten you.. just been busy in work...GM/GA to ya

  • My brother has been looking for this song for more than 15 years.

  • Jesse Johnson produced it...its around... if you need a MP3 download....let me know.. I'll send it...take care

  • I have it.

  • I have the song I can email it to u

  • I do..as well as the album

  • i love this song used to jam this with my 11th grade sweetheart damn so many memories

  • Oh my GODDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I cant believe that after like 8 years I finally, by chance, found this song!!!!!!!!!!!! . . . . . . this song is so very simple, but its so damn funky and str8 to tha point and perfectly succinct!!!!! . . . My heads exploding now and I cant really type anymore . . . . .thanxxxxx for posting this!!!!!!!!!!!!! Will - nyc

  • @iamwillsmith Me too LOVED THIS BACK IN '85 THIS GROUP WAS VERY UNDERRATED!!!!!!!!!

  • Are U kidding? A lot of folk in NYC loved this cut. I still have the 12" . The 12" is HOTT...especially when she whispers "Don't fuck with me" at the very end.

  • Ta Mara looks so different in this video than she does on the album cover.

  • Alicia Keyes should redo this.Mariah is most likely to, however Alicia could keep the original deep sultry voice.

  • I always wanted to hear Christina Aguilera cover this, I think she'd kill it! I'll also put Pink into the mix as well.

  • Uh un NO. Let it be

  • HA! Dude looks 2 corny 4 this vid.

  • Anybody know whatever happened to TaMara, she was one funky, soulful chile!

  • She now goes by her real name, Margie Cox. She released a single written by Prince called "Standing at the Altar". It was released on 1-800-NEW-FUNK in1994. The full album was never released

  • Thanks, I'll have to check that out!

  • the bass line on this cut is pure evil. loves the solo as well

  • All I can say is Prince had a hand in a lot of groups back in the day. They all carry that sound and style that only Prince can make... I love this video.

  • Yes he did but Ta Mara & the Seen was a protege band of Jesse Johnson. he produced this album.

  • True and valid point. However, the bottom line is that Prince was the key for a lot of the members who went on doing their own projects.

  • Great song! I worn this track out in the 80's. One of my favorites. I have it on vinyl, looking for the CD. Thanks for the bio as well. YOu know your music. :-)

  • I thought I was the only one who did wear this out, WBLS in NY turned me on to this back in the day, definitely a slept-on cut!

  • Grace your brother's group never got the props that they deserved.

  • AWESOME TUNE!!! Gotta love all that 3rd & 4th generation Prince stuff that was all over the music scene back in the day!!!

  • Ah the 80s. Where the hair was high and the music low...well most of it.

  • Well than take your ass on and listen to Cheap Trick ASSHOLE !!!

  • That's Mr. Asshole to you Asswipe.

  • WOW IMPOSSIBLE

  • I agree!!!

  • Like others have said, the music back then was about having a good time, some of it was a little cheezy, but a lot was pretty good. But that seemed to change with the intro. of gangst rap and grunge rock in the 90's. The record companies need to get back to the carefree attitude that use to exist during the 80's, and stop promoting all the negative stuff, a lot of which includes too much sexual content.

  • Wow. Only 37,000 views?

Ta mara and The Seen...still one of my all-time favorite groups out of Minneapolis..sorry uncle Jesse....LOL!!

  • I actually have MOST of the

TA MARA & THE SEEN debut LP loaded on my link .......

AND am currently loading tracks from

    BLUEBERRY GOSSIP ( 2nd album )

CLICK ON THE LINK & ENJOY !!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG! This was my jam. I can't believe this video is on YouTube. My brother was a member of this band when I was a kid and I just about thought he walked on water back then. LOL!!!!

  • This was my song back when I was in 5th grade. I own the album. :) My best friend just went to a concert last night in Minnesota ...Tamara, Maserati and other's performed and my girl got on stage and sang!!! I would have given my pinky finger to be there.

  • This was my jam sophomore year of highschool! I wish the audio was a little better. Excuse me while I stroke my pet tiger. Thanks for posting!!

  • This was my jam!!! OMG I'm old

  • That was funky stuff at the time. I can't believe someone remember this song. I got the title of the song wrong and I never remember the name of the group.

  • Singer is Margot cox, what a babe.

  • It was about having fun and it wasn't as serious as it is now. I guess everything changed in the 90's and got dark quickly. It killed a lot of acts. I appreciate these bands more than ever

  • Cosmictalk is correct!! This is a 100% Jesse Johnson Production, not Prince. After breaking off from the Time, Jesse produced a string of hits on his own and under his own publishing company (JWJ Productions). Those 1980s synths and electronics really take you back

  • Actually people, This was a Jesse Johnson Project. can't you hear his style all over it.

  • u probably should consider Jesse W Johnson as part of the Prince music family...

  • If I could just turn back the clock!

  • Same here very underrated music apart of Prince's music family

  • Its funny but I know every word of this song......I guess I might have played it about 2 billion times...lol Love Tamara and the Seen

  • Hotttt!!!!! took me back a little......wish it was available on Rhapsody.

  • What a jammin tune - really takes you back to good times. 1985 - what a great year, especially with the tunes coming out of the MSP's Prince "stable" - Shelia E, Apollonia 6, Morris Day and the Time. GREAT MEMORIES

  • Agreed as stated before the mpls family aside from Michael Jackson made the 80's for me.

  • i miss al;l this old music i was only in the 7th or 8th grade but i was definately feeling it

  • yes .yes yes... this is it thank you to whomever posted it i hve searched for it forever ....thank you

  • OMG.... I thought I'd never see this video again......Thank You

  • Had to come back and comment again on how HOT this jam is!!!!

Hey is the guy in this video Rob Dyrdek from Rob & Big? J/K...

  • Man this takes me back!!! What a great time for music. I don't care what anybody says. You don't get that feeling out of songs today.

  • Underrated never got the credit that they deserve Ta Mara rule 4ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow. Didn't think I would ever hear this song again. I loved it back in the day. Started singing along word for word like I heard it yesterday. This was high school for me. Anything remotely related to prince, the time, sheila e etc. were in tight rotation on my turntable.

  • I was a senior in high school when this came out I believe and when I went to college I played drums to this in a recital and we jammed as also this song was. Thanks for the info on them being in the same stable as Prince, The Time, The Family etc. because I didn't know at the time though the sound should've been a dead giveaway.

  • I will say this ..... Ta Mara was HOTT ........ BUT HER KEYBOARD PLAYER ( Gina Fellicetta ) WAS FINE AS HELL TOO !!!!!

HEAR MORE .... TA MARA & THE SEEN

    @ MY LINK : ANONYMOUSENT

  • Out of Print huh ???? ........ WELL - good thing I have BOTH OF THESE ALBUMS and have loaded this debut LP .... and started loading the 2nd LP : Blueberry Gossip ...huh ???

  • PRODUCED BY JESSE JOHNSON

  • I've been looking for this joint for ages! I loved this song when it came out back in the day.

  • Words can not explain how HOT this song was back then and still is to this day. Thanks so much for posting this!!!!

  • The song is the shit, but the video is funny as hell!!!!! LOL

  • I just had to post another comment...This song is so DAMN HOT!

It's eveything that was right about the 80's,And what I miss so much!

  • This is my first time hearing this song or this group, but my dad named me after her. i cant really see why he liked them so much though

  • this was high quality at the time. the vocals were impecible

  • I love this song... but, Tamara had another song that I can't remember the title of...it was an instrumental.

    -Jessica

  • The Instrumental was Lonely Heart...

7 songs total on the album:

    1-Everybody Dance

    2-Affection

    3-Summertime Love

    4-Lonely Heart

    5-Thinking about you

    6-Got to have you

  • Ahhh Yes !!! Another Classic !!! YouTube is tha shit !!!

  • Awesome! Can't believe I found this. Thanks!

  • Whar can I say ? I'm a late 70's / 80's kid.

So go fuck ur'self. This song was hot.

  • Don't be ashamed...I'm an 80's kid too! I'd give every penny in the bank to go back to those days...And watch this video on Video Music Box! LOL...

  • Once in the 80's was enough 4 me but shit, like 1tbounty said - this song was hot - no doubt DAM it was hot...

  • lol, don't forget about the original VIDEO SOUL with smiling donnie simmpson. true, the 80s were a special big, shoulder pad era where cross dressing and sex were typical lovejoys spread across the screen BUT IN A SULTRY, SOPHISTICATED WAY.

  • As long as I have the wisdom and confidence of now, but I would miss my friends and godchildren. But I would do it for a week like in fantasy island, call mister Rorake

  • Jesse Johnson rocks the guitar solo!

CAN SOMEONE FROM THE UK(or anywhere)PLEASE HELP ME FIND THE SONG BELOW & EMAIL IT TO ME AS AN MP3?

    "God(instrumental)"by Prince&The Revolution.

It played during the scene in Purple Rain where Prince & Appolonia were getting it on. It has to be the instrumental version, its 7 minutes long. It was only released in the UK. The vocal version of "God" is totally different. When I found it I couldn't download it off UK websites.

    PLEASE help me. Thanks!

  • I love the look and sound of Minneapolis and Prince! He had quite a flock of artists in the 80's!Love em! The music(so called) of today is generic CRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WAR PRINCE AND COMPANY!!!!!!!!!

  • The music today can't even compare to back in the 80 & 90.

  • so very true cryhavok --- couldnt have said it better myself

  • help, I'm being chased by a tiger....help! I just rant into a bunch of funky and soulful gay people!

  • I miss those days where you part of a FUNK scene whether it was Minneapolis, Dayton, or Cameo in the 1980's and it was all races, sexes and creeds you could let your freak flag fly unlike this uniform thuggery of commerical rap and rock music.I thank Prince, Jesse Ta Mara and all those talented musicians who made it easier to find a tribe of people to belong in.

  • ol girl is fine

  • The guitar solo is all Jessie Johnson...

  • If anyone is looking for the 12" version of this song on MP3, hit me up with your email address. Also, I have it also available on my imeem . com profile page for embedding onto your MySpace pages. I'll try and get it to you as soon as I can.

  • I'll take that offer.

  • I've been looking for this for a while! Thank you:)

  • This was the jam when I was a freshman in high school! Those were the days when I thought I was the s*** with my jheri curl and blue eyeliner! Thanks for the trip down memory lane :-)

  • This was / still is the jam. Make no mistake about it. The 80's were the best. The times and music can't be beat. Thanks for posting. I love it. Peace Out
