I better not see this loser in Yankee pinstripes EVER AGAIN! Hope the Florida Marlins are happy when he's hanging 87 mph fastballs and 78 mph changeups over the heart of the plate that get knocked 450 ft out of the park every other pitch!
@thunderstruck665 shut the fuck up asshole are in the mlb no well he is he is not the best pitcher but now in the 2011 won 5 games in a row in the fucking marlins dick
Javier, you will be sorely missed. Hate to see you go, especially since it was one of the worst trades I've ever seen. It was a short run, but a great one as a Brave.
Yeah... Ill miss Melky, but, hey, Javy will do great for us and you do gotta admit, Melky is 25 and even if he is getting progresively better, you can't always coun't on him to be a huge part of the offense. I would have liked Melky to stay. But c'mon man, We will all miss Melky an d Matsui, Im pretty sure we gonna get Johnny Back. GOODBYE MELKY YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN AND WE HOPE YOU COME BACK. Javy Vazquez will be fine with us.
? Holliday is a no. Remember our payroll does have a limit. If we get him we would be exceeding it. Johnny will come back My dad knows it and trust me on this he knows alot of things.
@powerstruggle55: Horrible move! Javier Vazquez is the personification of mediocrity in Major League Baseball. His Major League record is 142-139 with a 4.19ERA. He is NEVER going to get better than that. Melky Cabrera is young, had a very good '09 season, was much improved and has nowhere to go but up.
C'mon. Alot of fans are hear broken but Javier Vazquez wasn't good before cuz of the poor defense and low run support. in Atlanta he had great defense and not that great of run support, in 2004 when he was with us, he had not a great season cuz he had lower than avarage defense. Now, We got the best defense in the Majors. im sure Javy will fo fine for us.
You're an idiot. The Braves are also idiots for letting him go in favor of a guy who hit 13 home runs last year in a popcorn park.
You're getting another ace-caliber pitcher. The guy's strike outs were at the top of the league last year, and his ERA was 2.78. He recieved votes for the Cy Young, and his record was only "mediocre" due to a lack of run support. Please know what you're talking about before you go off on a rant.
popcorn park sure. You're a real idot stupid Braves fans. Apparently you're good at getting to the WS but bad at winning it which is why we won it against you in '96 and '99. Now you guys can't even make the playoffs!
Your analysis is too dependent on one year, but you are right, he could be the No. 1 or 2 starter on a lot of teams. People who hold up wins and losses as everything are idiots, they're important, but can be deceptive. The main problem that I see with Vazquez is his fly-ball rate. It's quite scary when you think about a guy who's pretty much guaranteed to have an over 40% fly ball rate in Yankee Stadium.
Well Javier Vazquez is a strikeout pitcher which might lower that rate the way i see it. Most hitter today are low-ball hitters like Ryan Howard with very few high-ball hitters like Jason Bay. He Has to figure out who they are and find a way to get around that, hence the scouting reports. He has strikeout stuff. I know that fly-ball rate will go down.
Why would he suddenly figure that out? He's been in the majors for over a decade. Also, Javy's only had a fly-ball rate under 40% once in his career, so the odds are that he's going to be over 40% again.
Last year was a career year for Javy, that's why I don't think it'll happen this year. The fact that he'll be playing in Homer Heaven and that he gave up 14 HRs to left-handed hitters last year makes me think that there could potentially be issues with the longball.
Yes, it will be interesting to watch, that's for sure. It was a solid move for the Yanks, my only concern is LF and who'll they'll get for 2-3 mil a year. That seems to be their plan, but of course, that could change.
Left Field is the number 1# issue. The only option I could find is Rick Ankiel. I want to think through this because since we can't exceed our payroll limit and we can't spend that much because the Mark Teixeira, CC Sabathia, and A.J. Brunett signings, i really don't know what they might do. It's a good thing we willl have much more in the 2010 offseason and which might allow us to get Carl Crawford. right now with the market growing thin I might propose a one year deal with an outfielder.
I like David DeJesus from the Royals, but the Yankees would have to throw away prospects. They should stick with Gardner/Hoffman if getting a quality LF comes down to that. It's not like they can't win with a Ricky Ledee kind of LF.
I would stick with Gardner But i think that Hoffmann isn't ready to be a starter yet, Plus we are taking away alot of homeruns from last year remember? LF is a position where power hitters are.

Why Melky? Melky was hecka clutch this year, if it was a different player to go, then I want it to be Brett Gardner.

Well he did it last year why not this year? Even if he is playing in a launching pad of a ballpark and it is the American League.
You never know.

As far as major league pitchers go, Javier Vasquez has got to be mediocrity personified! How this guy continues to find work is totally beyond me!
