That kind of promo takes away from it, once it is realized the phrase is for a production group. Unfortunately for a lot of musicians before, they don't own the rights to their own songs. The publishing right owners tried to sue John fogerty for plaigarizing his own song. Fortunately these days people can have more options to produce and distribute their own music without record companies.
I didn't know two overweight people like me could look and be soooo cool. Perhaps WMG and the movie studios could take a look at your work and learn how to make ordinary Americans feel good about themselves! Sure would beat all the bombing, shooting and violence that stinks up the moviehouses now.

I like the dissolve to colour and the old guy very well done. And as a film maker I appreciate the hard work that goes into making a film clip. I'd say the track came back when someone realized it was never a WMG property. This was recorded for Janus, which was then taken over by Arista, which has since been taken over by Sony. In the interim, Stewart has gone to great lengths to obtain his own copyrights, and he doesn't deal with the majors anymore.

Was this video made by Captain Obvious? The shot of Peter Lorre, the repeated picture of a cat, the view of a street with no buses or tourists... I can't remember the last time I felt so patronised. The song and production is a masterpiece, something that rarely happens when an artist gets everything right, and then rarely does anything as good. Most of Al Stewart's stuff is pretty light and he's never surpassed this.

A friend of mine thought that the B-52's Dead Beat Club was The Dead Make Love for many years. I'd hate to think of exactly how he came to that misinterpretation of the lyrics :).

Was this video made by Captain Obvious? The shot of Peter Lorre, the repeated picture of a cat, the view of a street with no buses or tourists... I can't remember the last time I felt so patronised. And get rid of the distracting "Useless Bay" splashed across the middle: don't flatter yourselves that anybody would try to steal your work.

Guess I'm like that old guy remembering the year of the cat. I was at CU in Boulder my first cat invited me into her sorority room (after asking her roommates if they could leave us alone for a while). She look catish too. Ha, smelled a little like fish too. Sorry about that, TMI.

The song and production is a masterpiece, something that rarely happens when an artist gets everything right, and then rarely does anything as good. Most of Al Stewart's stuff is pretty light and he's never surpassed this.
Hard to capture the images the song evokes since everyone must have a slightly different interpretation, but this video certainly fails on all counts!
How can anyone miss the acoustic guitar to electric solo followed by sax as an allegory to making love and the afterglow?

My big sister and her ultra cool hipster friends would listen to this when I was a child. I remember the album cover and I always imagined the woman being a mysterious, southeast asian refined, witchy type but woman. Kudos on the video!

the Year of the Cat is from the Vietnamese astrology and replaces the Rabbit, its a stress free year. I read somewhere that Peter Lorre is referred to from an earlier movie where he kills children rather than from casablanca.
This song is definitely about a "call girl" in whatever exotic place that suits you; i tend to agree with this short on asian backdrop

The year of the cat is interchangeable to the year of the rabbit in certain applications of Asian astrology. I have to agree with Chazz the mention of Peter Lorre in this song is in no way associated to his role in Casablanca. As you said though, music is an artist's gift to us to interpret as we will. A friend of mine thought that the B-52's Dead Beat Club was The Dead Make Love for many years. I'd hate to think of exactly how he came to that misinterpretation of the lyrics :).
