Yeah, I always thought this was a Radiohead song until I realized it was Unkle. Well... now I know. Still a great song with a pretty interesting video.
Well you were not fair off... the song was written by Thom Yorke and Josh Davis (Radiohead) and I believed it was sung by Thom Yorke, but don't quote me
el pesonaje es en realidad un alienígena que está reconfundido por razones ovbias y despues de tanto golpe que le propinan los forros humanos recupera la memoria y creo que el último que lo choca no sobrevivió, se lo merece porque fue a matarlo
i interpret it as a metaphor of the power of mind. i don't know what he's uttering but i suppose it's something about staying focused, despite the pain
The thing he thought was protecting him (the coat - notice he's saying "breathe breathe!" - self preservation instinct). When he finally realized this and rids himself of those things he previously thought were keeping him safe, he became indestructible. Think about the quote from the break in the song, "if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away; but if you've made your peace. Then the devils are really angels. Freeing you from the earth..."
when the guys with the car stops and ask him where he goes, he says...Saint Crystal? or smth. like that? this is the only one favourite song and vid in the whole world...God bless Thom and UNKLE
Well Depeche Mode has a bizarre music video called "Wrong" which has a guy in a car crashing into stuff, but the guy isn't being destroyed by other cars.
we all voice our opinions, but are the opinions we r voicing, not that of wot the video could be about, but the voices of us? our troubles? our problems? our demons to shed? the light and freedom we seek?
we could all have ideas about wot hes saying, wot he is tryin to tell us or make believe himself or wotever. we could also throw out a billion reasons as to y the video is like this, wot the main backbone is, y he gets hit, y he sheds his coat, and y he becomes so strong and free at the end...
To me the video contains the message that other people can knock you down but they cannot destroy you, but when you focus to destroy them you also destroy yourself.
I've always seen this as being about a man confronting his inner demons. Like, I always saw it in my mind as a soldier who lost a man under his command. As he walks around, the man's ghost stands over his shoulder, screaming at him.
Eventually, he accepts that the man is dead, and that's when the song ends- with him finally overcoming what had been controlling his life all that time.
I always thought this was a homage to the crazy homeless people who talk to themselves.. someday when they figure out what's confusing them so much they'll transcend the limitations of this world.
amazing video and song UNKLES music is amazing and if u own a 360 or ps3 play assassins creed 1 and two and while playing listen to UNKLE it makes the game more amazing and gives u goosebumps!
"If you're frightened of dying and you're hold on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels... freeing you from the earth"
If devils are angels, than what are angels? And if there is no difference between those two, wherefore urge to describe one as "good" and other as "bad"?
Thus, that sentence emits wrong impression, to seek rapture in one's devils.
I agree with the part that fear tear one's life, but disagree with other.
(No offense)Say your addicted to drugs and your family keeps taking your drugs away from you - they would seem like the bad guys to you but once you realize that its what needs to be done, the taking away of the drugs become a positive. Thats what I think that line was getting at.
Wrong choice of example, good is prelearned from society, in most of cases, because good abides in it. Good/bad is simple as much as simple truth, the only twist in it, is when an individual starts to think he is the fulcrum for sense of morality. Thus, in the moment one starts to be oblivious for responsibility towards his own actions (which are forwarded towards other people), he is losing the sense of morality. Yes, I agree with you, but still it emits wrong impression, logical fallacy.
Maybe this will help. First you have to listen to the full song. There is an excerpt from the movie Jacobs ladder which goes "If you're frightened of dying and you're hold on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels... freeing you from the earth" It seems that when he kept getting hit and then getting up it was like saying he was holding on to life. And the sheding of his coat was his way of making "peace". Just a thought.
Notice his diminishing self as he at the start is first avoided by cars, and then, got hit more oftenly... By the way, I know it's subjective, but this is an allegory of life. I guess religious people can find that the light is God, if that is what they're after or what makes their sense of being, but I think that no God is actually symbolized here, and that besides the point that in this video drivers represent people in general, religious people still pass him by, gazing and wondering.
and when he looks up at the light its symbolizes God and he has to look away because he thinks he can handle it alone, and only tilll the end where he looks into the light and realizes the real TRUTH!!!
it's all about enlightenment. listen to him saying: love, what's love. he's lost in life, being hit by other cars symbolising events in his life he can't cope with, while his 'nice coat' is his superficial appearence for those who hit him. once he rejects it he's a free man crushing anything on his way. It's about enlightenment.
Listen to the full version of the song, then watch Jacob's Ladder (if you haven't already); you also need some understanding of the bible in order of pick up on the allegory depicted in this video.
Got to agree there. We had Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and many other rise through the ranks and become big name director. Today, kids finish film school thinking they can get a career just on music videos alone.
..like how the man gets hit on the wrong side of the road a couple times and the coat seemingly being a burden that made him vulnerable to the cars that smacked him & once he took it off he was invulnerable. Great shit
The cars are random people and you get pushed around with them, and you are hiding from them, that's the jacket, and then at the end when he takes his jacket off, that means that sometimes it's best to vulnerable to be strong.
You're on the right track. The coat was a sign of societal conditioning. We wear a coat when we're cold - for him to take it off means he was rejecting the way society was attempting to temper and control him.
ah man i saw this video years ago and it always stuck in my head i never found it again until today - im chuffed!! The end is amazing - def my favourite music vid ever. genius.
Wow, this video is great! I was listening to Unkle (bloodstain) as I was riding on the trolley and as I looked toward the back, I saw an obviously mentally unstable crossing the street, while the light was green..and the cars that were approaching him had to stop as he blindly maneuvered his way through the cars. He almost got hit too. It was creepy..to see the video by Unkle and then somewhat see it first hand while listening to Unkle. wow.
ive always loved this bass line in this song, so simple put just awsome i never knew it was thom yorke playing it but hey he does an awsome job. i also like how when he gets hit the people just keep driving.
