  • 4:14 it gives me power...

  • Yeah, I always thought this was a Radiohead song until I realized it was Unkle. Well... now I know. Still a great song with a pretty interesting video.

  • Well you were not fair off... the song was written by Thom Yorke and Josh Davis (Radiohead) and I believed it was sung by Thom Yorke, but don't quote me

  • Just to clarify sorry, Thom Yorke was from Radiohead and Josh Davis is also know as DJ Shadow

  • didnt get it 11 yrs ago, but makes sense now

  • Ever heard of using a pedestrian crossing? lol. I didn't get the message of this video at first but finally understood it...Good video.

  • Where's Thom Yorke's name in the description/title?

He deserves some credit as well.

  • (Y)

  • amazing song

  • and what would you know or understand about music?

  • ˆ†˙ˆ˜˚ ¥ø¨® å ç®åππ¥ ßø˜©

I think ur a crappy song!

  • Haha nobody cares!

  • just those guys with in the car ,the acting is great !!!

  • your first mistake was thinking this was a song... your second mistake was thinking i was a song.... see the pattern? yeah you're retarded LOL

  • He finally finds the ultimate manthra..

  • SHIMER!!!!!!!!!

  • This guy is fucking well hard!! (Y)

Love how he keeps getting knocked down until he finally gets pissed off and just stands up against a car. Proper Warrior there :v

  • i just love it when he realises himself

  • Thom yorke is a genius.

  • amazing video

  • beautiful!

  • The guy driving the cab is Craig Kelly, wh was most recently in Coronation Street. The other guys are UNKLEs James Lavelle and Richard File

  • haha owned.

  • Nope.

  • @AnalSurgery sipi

  • the people in the car are members of U.N.K.L.E and one of them is an actor, but its not Ewan McGregor

  • the geezer walking is Denis Lavant

  • Im not sure that's he's Ewan McGregor.

  • the yellow car driver is ewan mcgregor

  • ummm

  • One of the best video in the history of videoclip, and a great song.

Do you think the guy drivin' the car that stop is Thom Yorke?

  • Yes the guy driving is Thom yorke.

  • The guy who urges him to get in the car? That is Ewen McGregor. I don't recall seeing Thom Yorke in the video...

  • whats this movie, must know.

  • TIMMEY!!!

  • i interpret it as a metaphor of the power of mind. i don't know what he's uttering but i suppose it's something about staying focused, despite the pain

  • my favourite video

  • @Alguzsando I agree.

  • I finally understood it. He shed behind him his old self, and trascended it all.

Or, well, that's one way to interpret it. :-)

  • The thing he thought was protecting him (the coat - notice he's saying "breathe breathe!" - self preservation instinct). When he finally realized this and rids himself of those things he previously thought were keeping him safe, he became indestructible. Think about the quote from the break in the song, "if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away; but if you've made your peace. Then the devils are really angels. Freeing you from the earth..."

  • El mejor video de todos lo timpos!!!!!! digan lo ke digan

  • when the guys with the car stops and ask him where he goes, he says...Saint Crystal? or smth. like that? this is the only one favourite song and vid in the whole world...God bless Thom and UNKLE

  • so. unbelievably. beautiful.

And Thom's voice is perfect here.

Oh yeah. So good. So damn good.

  • I'm a rabbit in your headlights

    Christian suburbanite

    You got money to burn....

  • the end of this video is epic

  • yay its thom, his voice is perfect for this song

  • colorblindfool. i usually never laugh when i read things on Youtube but that was histerical

  • it really means: crazy homeless people have super powers

  • i totally get it hes a master of his will !!!

  • the willpower of humans

  • Kinda looks like he is chanting a spell. That makes him invulnerable.

  • Well Depeche Mode has a bizarre music video called "Wrong" which has a guy in a car crashing into stuff, but the guy isn't being destroyed by other cars.

  • its not about how many times we get knocked down, its about how many times we get back up.

  • well said....

  • somebody knows about another clip similar to this one a man being destroyed by cars i dont remember the artist

    thanks

    but this one is better

  • I thought I told your dad to walk on the pavement

  • I liked the bit whre he got run over.

  • i couldnt fit my whole comment in one box.

  • ....continuation...

    ...

we all voice our opinions, but are the opinions we r voicing, not that of wot the video could be about, but the voices of us? our troubles? our problems? our demons to shed? the light and freedom we seek?

We all have troubles dont we...

    Just, a thought.

  • also...

we could all have ideas about wot hes saying, wot he is tryin to tell us or make believe himself or wotever. we could also throw out a billion reasons as to y the video is like this, wot the main backbone is, y he gets hit, y he sheds his coat, and y he becomes so strong and free at the end...

  • Comment removed

  • To me the video contains the message that other people can knock you down but they cannot destroy you, but when you focus to destroy them you also destroy yourself.

  • i think its fair to say i have no idea what is going on in this video. big tune.

  • Confusing, but so fucking good.

  • Ese hombre soy ..y asì es mi vida..igual q el video..

  • me too more or less!

  • Deep..

    Just.. amazing!!

  • a powerful and quite unsettling video!

  • I've always seen this as being about a man confronting his inner demons. Like, I always saw it in my mind as a soldier who lost a man under his command. As he walks around, the man's ghost stands over his shoulder, screaming at him.

Eventually, he accepts that the man is dead, and that's when the song ends- with him finally overcoming what had been controlling his life all that time.

  • I always thought this was a homage to the crazy homeless people who talk to themselves.. someday when they figure out what's confusing them so much they'll transcend the limitations of this world.

  • Thumbs up to you Sir, for I whole-heartedly agree.

  • @Sconz32 Perfect!

  • best video off all time

  • amazing video and song UNKLES music is amazing and if u own a 360 or ps3 play assassins creed 1 and two and while playing listen to UNKLE it makes the game more amazing and gives u goosebumps!

  • muy impactante

  • mi video favorito

  • ...cathartic aoptheosis in a music video. btw i didn't come up with that phrase. wait yes i did...

  • EMPOWERING...NICE

  • i dont know but this should be thom yorke??? am i right ?

  • it is. unkle gets guests in for their songs all the time. unkle wrote the song. but yorke wrote the lyrics. just yorke, not radiohead haha

  • Great video

  • depression

  • @diebox14 thats because tom yorke is singing

  • it sounds like radiohead

  • are you kidding?

  • Thom Yorke is doing the vocals. =)

  • thanks

  • evolution of thought.

  • "If you're frightened of dying and you're hold on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels... freeing you from the earth"

If devils are angels, than what are angels? And if there is no difference between those two, wherefore urge to describe one as "good" and other as "bad"?

Thus, that sentence emits wrong impression, to seek rapture in one's devils.

I agree with the part that fear tear one's life, but disagree with other.

  • (No offense)Say your addicted to drugs and your family keeps taking your drugs away from you - they would seem like the bad guys to you but once you realize that its what needs to be done, the taking away of the drugs become a positive. Thats what I think that line was getting at.

  • Wrong choice of example, good is prelearned from society, in most of cases, because good abides in it. Good/bad is simple as much as simple truth, the only twist in it, is when an individual starts to think he is the fulcrum for sense of morality. Thus, in the moment one starts to be oblivious for responsibility towards his own actions (which are forwarded towards other people), he is losing the sense of morality. Yes, I agree with you, but still it emits wrong impression, logical fallacy.

  • lmao u must feel smart but i agree

  • @Babykilla143 that s my opinion too

  • Maybe this will help. First you have to listen to the full song. There is an excerpt from the movie Jacobs ladder which goes "If you're frightened of dying and you're hold on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. But if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels... freeing you from the earth" It seems that when he kept getting hit and then getting up it was like saying he was holding on to life. And the sheding of his coat was his way of making "peace". Just a thought.

  • that is really beautiful.

  • Notice his diminishing self as he at the start is first avoided by cars, and then, got hit more oftenly... By the way, I know it's subjective, but this is an allegory of life. I guess religious people can find that the light is God, if that is what they're after or what makes their sense of being, but I think that no God is actually symbolized here, and that besides the point that in this video drivers represent people in general, religious people still pass him by, gazing and wondering.

  • He knows how to change the matrix, innit..

  • thanks i wondering wha this vid was about

  • and when he looks up at the light its symbolizes God and he has to look away because he thinks he can handle it alone, and only tilll the end where he looks into the light and realizes the real TRUTH!!!

  • it's all about enlightenment. listen to him saying: love, what's love. he's lost in life, being hit by other cars symbolising events in his life he can't cope with, while his 'nice coat' is his superficial appearence for those who hit him. once he rejects it he's a free man crushing anything on his way. It's about enlightenment.

  • It's like he's walking through a cold, hard tunnel, taking in enormous amounts of pain, and then he figures it all out. He stops and smiles.

  • the Best video clip, am.... in. Thanks UNKL3!!!!!

  • Listen to the full version of the song, then watch Jacob's Ladder (if you haven't already); you also need some understanding of the bible in order of pick up on the allegory depicted in this video.

  • sooooo hes an immortal or something?....or what?

  • thats how it is for some people, get over it you fucking yanky fucks

  • maybe he was just tired of getting pushed round

  • that gave me chills

  • isn't that Merde from the movie-"tokyo"??

  • The end of this video is fucking epic.

  • rabbit can't like alone...

    a little communication is important.

  • in my opinion, the 90's were the golden age of videos... now it's hard to see some quality...

  • Got to agree there. We had Spike Jonze, Michel Gondry and many other rise through the ranks and become big name director. Today, kids finish film school thinking they can get a career just on music videos alone.

  • Deep video...

..like how the man gets hit on the wrong side of the road a couple times and the coat seemingly being a burden that made him vulnerable to the cars that smacked him & once he took it off he was invulnerable. Great shit

  • wow, never thought of it that way. Really good way of interpreting it. makes sense too.

  • MOST SADDEST VID

  • what a fantastic song. i bought this album when it came, and it still sounds fresh.

  • ubermansch?

  • I try this music for years.

I always thought it was a music group Radiohead

The UNKLE singer's has the same voice that I think of Radiohead

  • that's actually Thom Yorke's voice

  • Yeah, Thom Yorke did a special collaboration thing with them to make this song. Wikipedia it and such...

  • damn..

    ending gave me chills.

  • what rap song samples this?

  • my favorite song and video

  • Anyone notice at 1:41 the car the hits him full on is going the wrong way

  • Yeah, dude your right...good eye

  • i see it like this :

The cars are random people and you get pushed around with them, and you are hiding from them, that's the jacket, and then at the end when he takes his jacket off, that means that sometimes it's best to vulnerable to be strong.

  • Follow my theory

    Cars = Goverment

    Guy = You

    Coat = Goverment control

The goverment hit you, but the goverment control dont let you hurt, when you leave the goverment control you destroy de goverment.....

or that guy it is just a fucking crackhead like many others that you can see in nyc

  • You're on the right track. The coat was a sign of societal conditioning. We wear a coat when we're cold - for him to take it off means he was rejecting the way society was attempting to temper and control him.

  • I love how you describe it.

  • Kinda like the video for Massive Attack - Angel.

  • What's the lesson contained here?

  • the lesson?...

the lesson is "use your brain and think by yourself"...

  • this is UNKLE retard....it just features Radioheads singer in this song

  • Timmy!

  • ah man i saw this video years ago and it always stuck in my head i never found it again until today - im chuffed!! The end is amazing - def my favourite music vid ever. genius.

  • dont you love it when that happens

  • THIS IS SPARTAAAA!!!!!

  • feat. thom yorke

  • No, this is Unkle featuring Thom Yorke.

  • is not the tom york voice??

  • it is ;-)

  • czy mozna sie podniesc ? zyje wiec zda sie ze mozna

  • Mike D from Beastie Boys played in ?

  • Wow, this video is great! I was listening to Unkle (bloodstain) as I was riding on the trolley and as I looked toward the back, I saw an obviously mentally unstable crossing the street, while the light was green..and the cars that were approaching him had to stop as he blindly maneuvered his way through the cars. He almost got hit too. It was creepy..to see the video by Unkle and then somewhat see it first hand while listening to Unkle. wow.

  • I remember this when I was 13 and being freaked out

  • ive always loved this bass line in this song, so simple put just awsome i never knew it was thom yorke playing it but hey he does an awsome job. i also like how when he gets hit the people just keep driving.

  • "If you're frightened of dying, and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away. If you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the Earth."

  • Very nice song and video:)

Allways thought this was the video of an other song, took me quiet long to find this video!

    It was really frustrating!

  • awsome video

  • TIMMAY!!!

  • that is one durable coat ladies and gentleman.

  • mwahahahaha, nice comment.

  • Impresionante

  • You're in good hands with allstate.....

  • It's the same as radiohead because thom yorke is singing.

  • 4:17

    A moment of pure realization

  • a tribute to tha human spirit

  • the same as radiohead

  • Beautiful but very sad video and song
