  • Can we say, M8s to the rescue?

  • What is so dangerous about standing next to an open door while a train is moving?

They do it all the time in India and no one gets killed.

Oh wait, they do. Quite a lot get killed every day actually.

But anyway, if he was holding onto something tightly, it's no big deal.

If there is a 5 year old running round, or a blind man on the train, of course it turns into a big deal.

  • hey im from connecticut and yes we are alot tougher up here and we don't really bitch about too much cuz we have tough skin...but it IS idiotic to stand next an open door on Metro north or on the subway!!!!!! i mean some crazy person could decide to push you out on top of all of the other things that could happen.

  • If the person who recorded this is so critical of the crew not being there, why didn't they go and find one instead of standing there and taping it for 3 minutes (maybe more?). The door came open, we get it.. The crew obviously can't be everywhere at once.

  • @PooPooDay

I am reading the description and there is no sense of condemnation to be found there. Hey New Yorkers aren't bothered by something like this. So they are enjoying the view and the breeze and that's the end of it.

  • just stand away from the door please.....the train is moving.....so shut your f'ing mouth and be quiet! I am late for work you assholes!

  • Thats real dangerous I don't know why crews aren't there to enforce that.

  • What I don't understand is why you would record this and not go get a crew member? Everyone standing near this door and the guy taking the video are the real idiots. Can you sue for stupidity? So if the guy next to the door flew out or got hurt from debris flying in, you all would sue to MTA. Why not sue everyone who just stood there and not let the crew know about this? Idiots.

  • @Chip1035 you are the idiot. The train is PACKED, that is the only reason people stand there. There are two conductors working who make their way through the train checking tickets. They will eventually come by. To battle your way through the crowded train to find a guy who is going to be there in a few minutes anyway is stupid. "debris flying in" lol, impossible.

  • great! my husband commutes on metro north each day.. glad he was not on that train.. Just a good thing no children were on that car.. though who would stay on that car and not move to another if they had small kids on board?

  • If you are on Facebook, join the group "I Hate Metro North Railroad"

  • THAT GUY IS EXTREME!

  • I want the last 3 mins of my life back, that was totally boring! I mean, if someone fell out, that would have been news worthy. Metro North sucks, but don't blame the conductors......Blame the government.

  • i like how the guys didn't even move at all to get away from the open door

  • I'm still trying to figure out what is so great about this video.

And why the hell it was on Youtube Trends.

  • what a bloody whinger.. at least your trains arnt so full you have to ride on the roof whinging americans pff

  • this guy is dumb as fuck

  • It's fairly easy for someone to hold these doors open with your feet

  • I think the most dangerous part is that it's in Harlem and the door is open.

  • On my country the trains dont have doors, please morons... STFU

  • @TheDeepestOne Well America isn't a third world country like yours.

  • "On my country the trains dont have doors"

    So fucking what?

  • It's group behaviour. People are thinking "It's not my problem. I can report this but then the train will stop and everyone will hate me for delaying their journey".

  • damn New york folks are fucking morons.

  • Too bad none of you liberal retards didn't fall off !

  • I was on an NY bound Amtrak train two weeks ago and the door was wide open and no one had seen it, and when i saw it i was later informed at the time we were moving 125 MPH

  • @Psychedelia1969 they purposly leave ther rear doors open sometimes

  • @TEMPLE7D it was a regular side door, i told the conductor and he came over and pulled some emergency close handle

  • @Psychedelia1969 yep those are also M2s the oldest elctric fleet in MNRR

  • @TEMPLE7D well yes, that is true. This is sort of irrelevant but do you know what the year of those cars is?

  • @Psychedelia1969 irrelevant... hah, im highly intrested in trains.. but yeah , the 1st M2 was delivered in 1973 by General Electric.. While the simular M4-Tokyu Car.CO were delivered in 1987, and the M6-Morrison Knudsen were delivered in 1993.

  • I thought they were delivered in '72, tested, and then went into service in '73, seeing pictures on nycsubway[dot]org of them down at Shea

  • @travelsonic well it was 72-73

  • @TEMPLE7D It seems like some people forget that year in calculating the age of the M2s.

Saw Metro-North working them like dogs the last couple of snow storms - trainspotting down at Mamaroneck for a good 4 or 5 hours, I was surprised at how few of the M4s and M6s I saw last Wednesday.

  • @travelsonic heh infact.. they were saying on the news, that they had crews waitng at pelham to manually pull down the pantographs

  • @TEMPLE7D That's amazing.

Hopefully last night's derailment in the Greenwich area didn't take more cars OOS.

  • @travelsonic i hope so too.. they ,ay mean another diesel train on the NHL

  • @TEMPLE7D well thanks for the info!

  • @Psychedelia1969 your welcome no problem

  • I'm also pretty sure that when those M8's are ready and in service all nits and twits whining this and that would shut up for good!

  • SIMON SAYS: Everyone OUT ! !

  • I can't believe anyone would even stand near it. Train was crowded sure, but there was space down the aisles. Better safe than sorry.

  • i swear to god thats my cousin eric

  • Is on the new like fox 5 news ?????

  • << while you get to post this video to youtube and bitch about the MTA being 45 minutes late. Grow some morals and common sense.

  • Dude, I'm a conductor for MTA. All the people watching this wide ass open door are morons, and you sir, are a douche for even recording it and not INFORMING someone about it! We try our hardest to make the ride safe, and obviously we wouldn't risk our jobs, pensions, vacation time, benefits, etc. for an open door when we can just inform control or command and prevent an accident or death. If someone were to be injured or killed, the TA would automatically blame US regardless of cause

  • Uh, why did you record this for 3 minutes?

  • nice...fare hikes all the time and now the introduction of passengers serving as doors.

  • DC Metro trains can't even move if a door is open or being leaned against. Auto-brakes are on unless all doors are shut

  • Comment removed

  • Anstead of filming, next time pull the emergency brake cord. Someone could have gotten killed

  • The only real idiot to blame is that dude standing DIRECTLY NEXT TO THE OPEN PASSAGEWAY. Another thing, Why blame the MTA for this? Its called train malfunction which clearly happens in ANY train in ANY state. I'm getting sick and tired of hearing the same BS over and over

  • @AlgonquinRider810 Dude! The guy by the open door is not in any real danger unless he stuck his head outside or someone pushed him out. And why blame MTA? BECAUSE!!! They are responsible for the safe operation of the train... and all passenger trains have a door-open warning system as a matter of course. Even the ones in India. Not only did the door fail to close on time, the safety mechanizm that would have alerted the conductor or engineer did too. And does Florida even have trains?

  • @AlgonquinRider810 No but you have to realize that the rest of the United States doesn't have a Metro system as sophisticated as New York's so it's somewhat excused if they have train problems there but in New York the Metro is a key part of people's lives and is a key part of the city's overall health so when the supposed "pinnacle" of the country's train system has widespread problems like this I think something is very very wrong.

  • @Cabosed0 True. One thing im only gonna say is this is Metro North commuter Railroad not the NYC Subway.

  • @AlgonquinRider810

The dude standing next to the open passageway probably has his footing and his head about him and is making it that much safer for everyone else. These New Yorkers are so cool, it is no big thing to them.

  • You people will argue, fight and make a fuss out of the smallest fucking things.

  • How the heck are these commuters (I ride the Metro North) so nonchalant about this? They're just standing there, like it's nothing unusual. The guy in the glasses, if the train jolted to the side with enough force, could've gone flying and turn into dead meat laying on the tracks... What the heck? I would've opened my mouth and barked "hey, what's going on here?" and looked for the conductor. On top of that, it's freezing cold!

  • This is NOTHING compared to my version of Bob Seger's "We've Got Tonight!"

  • *train bumps* "jimmy no!!!"

  • Wow, that's not good. That's actually pretty dangerous, especially with how fast that train was moving. The train shouldn't have been allowed to leave the station until the door was closed.

  • So what! the old Diesel trains on the LIRR always had the doors open. But are you jumping out of it? NO!

  • i hope he didnt think that it was safe to lean on the door after it closed!

  • I hope that guy standing next to the door was holding onto something!

  • @ someguy3283 u never no ...

  • @ jeffr32467 agreed ...

  • Wow! This New York is turning into Mumbai!

  • In reality nobody was in any real danger (other than the guy standing by the open door - but he made his own choice). And in regards to the emergency break: I'm reminded of an episode of ER when Carol goes into labor while on the Chicago El, and some idiot wants to pull the emergency break when they're one stop away from the hospital, with the guy saying something like "This is an Emergency, I'm supposed to pull the break".....

  • So nobody took this opportunity to push someone off the train? New York, you're losing your touch...!

  • Train running late... morning rush... last thing anyone wants to do is pull the emergency break and be stuck for who-knows-how-long when you're just 2 minutes from Grand Central. I'm sure they told the conductor, but he probably just wanted to get to Grand Central as well. For those that don't know, that portion of the track is straight smooth sailing all the way to the end, so the chance of something flying in is extremely small. (But yeah - the guy standing by the open door is still an idiot)

  • What kind of a jackass continues to stand near the open door of a moving train?

  • "Oh look: plenty of space farther in the car. I know...let's stand right here!" NATURAL SELECTION my friends......

  • Think I will get a little fresh air :-)

  • Stanford (sic, does the poster mean "Stamford"?) isn't on the Harlem Line.

  • Well thank god there were mature people standing on that train, any stupid teenager would have been pissing about on it and may even have been killed from their stupidity by sticking their head out the door

  • ridiculous. gd ny really!!!?

  • Look at all the sheeple going to work. They are probably paying 200-400 per month just for the privilege of traveling to the zionist capital of the world, NYC. It's not enough that they rape you on the fee to travel on these decrepit trains, but apparently they want a few passengers to meet their demise on them as well.

  • doesnt this train hav an emergency break like the LIR n NYCS?

  • the door is open, and the train is going 80 mph. tell me whats not wrong with that.

  • actually, looks like they jammed it open while the train was moving, then let it go, watch him move when it closes... anyhow, cut the budgets of the bureaucrats, lower the fare, and stop the war$

  • Where the hell are the M-8s?? The trains in the video are older than I am, and way beyond their lifespan. MTA and CT/NYDOT have to bring us out of the third world conditions...

  • You gotta love that bracing tunnel air.

  • const int SMALL_WINDOW_WIDTH = 320;

    const int SMALL_WINDOW_HEIGHT = 240;

  • That is crazy! MTA really needs to get those M8s into service!

  • Can you imagine if that guy put the video camera out of the window. 15 cops would have shown up and arrested him for spying for terrorists.

  • But how does no one tell the crew? Malfunctions happen all the time (and that particular car is 38 years old), but the crew should be aware.

  • @AEMoreira81 Thank You! People are all over the place and all the nut heads stay shut.. Then when someone falls off the train then they blame the (MTA) for all this junk. I'm getting tired of hearing this..

Sadly the M-8s are being delayed.. I think a minor tuneup is needed for these M2s!

  • Please Watch the gap, and open doors.

  • Hey! I just saw your video again on WTNH . c o m as a news story. Just thought I might share that.

  • I miss New York

  • What kills me is the idiot standing next to the open door ... What a moron, he probably thought he was cool .. All brave and shit standing next to an open door on a moving train .. How horrific would it have been if something flew and hit him from the tracks like a final destination scene. "Ohhhhhhh there goes the brave mans head in the ground "

  • "...he probably thought he was cool .. All brave and shit standing next to an open door on a moving train "

Or maybe coolness or lack therefore didn't factor into it, and he just didn't give a damn.

  • Amazing how the passengers seem to be OK with it. It shows the acceptance of MTA's crappy service by the riding public...

  • somebody call the FRA!

  • Whoops! That doesn't happen every day! Although with the M2s I'm not so surprised. It just puts more pressure on Metro-North to get the M8s in service! (LOL) Anyway, jeremygrimes73, did you happen to get the number of that car?

  • @Train538 The M8s cannot enter service because the traction return current is interfering with the positive train control computer.

  • sheesh... so the train can move even with the door open? =-o

  • More or less, it seems as though someone threw the overide switch.

  • If you see something, say something.

  • Everyone will blame the MTA for this, yet they don't realize that it was a train malfunction, if MTA wanted it's passengers dead they wouldn't transport anyone around! People act like technology hasn't fucked up before, god damn!

  • Instead of recording, I would of went str8 to the door and closed it or informed the damn crew... SMH!

  • @bebo2good1 The door was in its pocket, not sure it could have been pulled out and a passenger did tell a conductor, but he never came back to check it out even though he was in the same car with us.

  • @jeremygrimes73 emergency brake or call to 911 maybe? you were on the elevated

  • @jeremygrimes73 That conductor, I'm sorry to say, should lose his job... what an incompetent and dangerous thing to do. I'm a fellow Metro-North commuter - as if we don't pay enough money for a monthly pass to commute to Grand Central, we have to put up with this poor service from the conductors! Unbelievable..

  • @SoccerRockNY Well did anyone tell the conductor the door was open? As a conductor of the subway, I would like to be known of an open door on my train. Because you passengers hate the MTA so much that y'all would lie and say "oh we told the conductor but he ignored the problem" SMFH And guess what, we are suspended with NO PAY. And to that idiot who was standing by the door, he is a prime example of the lack of common sense people have these days

  • @jeremygrimes73 I really doubt a passanger went and tell the crew and if he or she did then they went to the wrong person and should of alerted the other crew members. If i was on that train id have that dude with the glasses move and i closed the door myself..

  • @bebo2good1 thanks mom for being so altruistic

  • Comment removed

  • @bebo2good1 that crew was fired smh at everything here

  • wow!

  • its sad when NY's dont even blink at the stupid shit the MTA does anymore smh

  • @IchiKitaChan So true.

  • @IchiKitaChan Pretty sure most of the people on this train aren't NYers as it looks like it was the New Haven line.

  • @joannbrereton ahhh perhaps ur right but the MTA still fails no matter who's riding it! >;(

  • @joannbrereton New Canaan line (New Canaan, Ct and Stamford)

  • @IchiKitaChan lol this is NYC!!! are we suppose to go crazy because the door is open... sheesh , just hold on tight lol

  • @TEMPLE7D please! After all the crazy shit we do see on the train the doors flying open is the least of our worries lmao

  • @IchiKitaChan lml exactly!

  • Comment removed

  • @IchiKitaChan And its sad people blame the (MTA) for bs all the time. Just like the recent idiot who made a video of the T/O texting while drivin. Like wow.... You can complaint for this bs but not complaint about what people do within the (MTA).. Like urinating in the platform, fighting, making noise, FAREBEATING etc... I feel real bad for the (MTA) and what the public does. Yes the (MTA) can be of an ass as well, but there are people from the outside world whos even more of an ass!

  • @bebo2good1 Okay so you defend them raising the fares every year, but the trains and service are in poorer conditions? You obviously must not be on these trains. I have been riding MetroNorth for 15 years now. Gets more expensive every year.... and they keep charging me more money. What a racket.

  • @johnlabriola Lol I RIDE MNCRR and im fan of the rails! Ever heard of a railbuff? Check me channel... For the fares.. Did i says i support it? Even tho its tooo high, i dislike them idiot farebeaters spending the (MTA) money and not paying while everyone else is. People have to make the t/a look bad for something stupid.. Yeah this M2 had a broken door.. But come on... There were people next too the door, they were endangering themselves not ta, standing there instead of altering a crew member..

  • @bebo2good1 To also add, farebeating is illegal.. How about recording and reporting to the (MTA) that issue instead of just worrying about the employees and fleets they run.. smfh10000xxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • @bebo2good1 LOL, good channel. Yeah if something happened, it was their fault. NY'ers are so desensitized nowadays.

  • @bebo2good1 While that may be true most people are doing these thing in retaliation to the BS teh MTA spits out..they see it as sticking one to the MTA for fare hikes, line discontinuations and oher BS like that..tho it is dangerous and stupis there really isnt anything anyone can do...

  • Wow! And, um, why is that man standing right next to the open door leaf?! One good jostle or switch maneuver and he could've found himself outside of the train.

  • i just saw this story on channel 7 so i you tubed it ......(lolz i always do this)

  • This should of been reporter right away. Normally this train won't move unless the doors are closed.

  • Wow that is nuts! Good ol' MTA!

  • That's soooooo dangerous!! Why didn't these passengers alert the conductor?
