There is only one cover I like, and that is Fiona Apples' 'Across The Universe'.
This version is too overdone, its a subtle song, and thats why I love it. This version is not bad, but not great. If she got rid of the Mariah Carey notes, the reverb and did a acoustic version then that would be more powerful.
Katharine is comparable to Mariah, Leona, Whitney and others. Basically in a different league then others. You can't really say she's "BETTER" or worse, just in the same league (as their all different)
I hope her album with David Foster gets her the accolades she definitely deserves because she's under everyones' radar right now.

It's probably reverb. You can set how much you want when dealing with sound. They may have upped the reverb right there for effect. I could be wrong... but that's my 2 cents. :)
Something is my favourite Beatle's song and Harrison is my favourite Beatle. That being said I really did not enjoy her version of this song. I did enjoy some of the other versions some of the "Idol's" did.

Why did they throw in that echo around 3:14/3:15? And how do they do that? Is it through software that alters the voice as she sings into the mic?

It's probably reverb. You can set how much you want when dealing with sound. They may have upped the reverb right there for effect. I could be wrong... but that's my 2 cents. :)

Something is my favourite Beatle's song and Harrison is my favourite Beatle. That being said I really did not enjoy her version of this song. I did enjoy some of the other versions some of the "Idol's" did.

if she would have just picked songs like this in AI5 she could have won. I don't know why she insisted on those power songs; her voice just gets weird when she tries to induce too much power.

Katharine is simply stunning. Shes the epitome of what I think of when I think of a superstar. Elegant, classy, beautiful and talented. I have ALWAYS been a fan since day 1. I will support her thru WHATEVER she does! Shes a gift in every way

She sounded much better in her lower notes. It's rich and very soothing. High notes tend to get a bit shrilly and thin though...

Yes she is....why whenever there is a new female singer people compare her with Celine, Mariah, Whitney, Christina??? Everyone is different...it does not mean she is any less of a singer then any of the above. The thing I love about Katharine is that she doesnt just sing....she tells a story through her voice and really makes you want to listen to her!

im so glad they're letting idol alumni perform on results shows instead of having someone that is NOT from idol @ all. and also they have less celebrities and mentors. last year was a complete disaster. it was just a pointless parade of celebrities and guest judges. season 7 is the best yet! i hope carrie underwood gets a chance to per4m her new single "all american girl" soon.

Well, David Foster thinks shes got something, as do I, and I dont doubt David Foster. Hes worked with greats, such as Whitney, so...there's no denying she can't sing.

That's cuz the American public likes singers like Fergie and Hannah Montana. When they hear a pure voice like Kat, they are afraid because it's too beautiful. Kat's CD was released before its time. Her next one will certainly go Diamond.
The record label she signed to is just dumb and stupid. They wanted her to sing songs that were just not right for Kat and she has morals and won't degrade herself to that just to stay on a record label. You are a class act, Kat!!

that dress doesn't exactly scream 'i have morals'. it's kinda short. the song isn't that great. her voice is fine, but the song is 'too big for her' as simon would say. they should have kept the beatles off american idol. there were about two people that actually did the songs justice. and katherine mcphee wasn't one of them... and she wasn't even a competitor

LOL... we are "afraid" of her beautiful voice? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. Hopefully no one watching American Idol, a SINGING competition, would fear a nice voice. Just because we disagree with you, and think she didn't do the song justice, doesn't mean you need to get all defensive--it's okay to disagree! K.M. just doesn't ever give me goosebumps; she's not that great of a singer unless she's singing "Rainbow" (like KRISTY LEE COOK with "Amazing Grace"...)
