Thanks for the tips I tried to do the site ending search by adding .gov with a keyphrase which worked but also included other non government sites. Now I am only getting government sites brilliant.
Not really on topic here, but somewhat related, from time to time I have to search for things, and there are 3 sites that show up from time to time, is there any way I can, or in future will be able to, make it so google doesn't display these results in my searches?
I never use them, but I also only ever check the first page before adjusting my query, every dud result such as those on the page is wasted time and bandwidth on googles behalf.

"place a hyphen before the 'site:' operator (without a space) to exclude a specific site from your search results."

You should've also explained the use of the keyword "OR" between words or even in phrases in double quotes
