very amazing i to am working on my passai sho bunkai so i can test for nidan. its not a kyoshi noujaim it is a my sensei requirement nice performence very well thought out kudos for u and your dojo.
Greetings Sensei Stolsmark, kudos on this great presentation and creative bunkai. This kata, along with Passai Dai and Okan were my favorites back when I trained at the old YKS. Nice work!
Hi Kyoshi Stolsmark ! We know that this kind of bunkai is for show , but even doing as you did , there are many interesting stuff in your demonstration . Your "show bunkai" is more realistic and technically deeper than much serious bunkai" made by "famous masters" .
Your understanding of this kata is very good and I want to congratulate you ! Many people can criticize because your karate isn't doing like a robot . Martial arts must have flow .
so was this bunkai used for show, because a lot of this I've never seen before, like when you tried to chuck that one wmoan across the stage. I'm not criticizing it or anything, I just thought it was unique
@ShihanPayne Remember that bunkai is a concept, as long as it works, it's acceptable. Definitely creative though, and I'm sure some of it was for embellished a little.
And ending my comments on this video. I would like to say that with all respect I don´t like the karate shown in this video at all. I am used to more traditional shorin ryu Okinawan karate. I can understand rinacata´s comments (My teacher is Miyazato Shoei Sensei, best friend of Iha Sensei, both students of Miyahira Sensei), although he was perhaps too much up front with his comments. I don´t like to see karate as a sport, but I respect people who are really fan of it. My regards to all
Continuing... to shadowxvincent: What do you mean by "real fight"?? Do you mean a open MA tournament or some attacker on the streets? tournaments are not real fight. If you have to defend your life on the street, that is real fight. And in this case, it is about the person not the martial art. In order to be able to defend yourself sucessfully you have to be cold minded and mentally prepared in order to use the right technique, in addition to good phisical condition and technical knowledge
I can agree with comments about not liking this video, or not liking this style; I can accept comments about being in favor of Karate as a Martial Art or in favor with Karate as a sport, but it is really annoying to read comments like Karate is effective or is not, or even worst Karate is effective only between karate-kas. This is not about the martial art, this is about the practicioners. All martial arts are good, but there are good or bad martial artists. To be continued...
Kyoshi Slosmart is simply amazing. I took a class with him at Kyoshi Luzzi's last camp in Rhode Island. Although a lot of his individual techniques were different from what I'm used to, his bunkai and knowledge of each technique is just outstanding.
The power of shorinkan is generated through speed and precision. The strikes are not generalized boxing type blows. They have purpose.
I do not know kyoshi Stolsmark. I do know several other remarkable Shorinkan karateka and can tell you that if you had any idea of what you were talking about you would realize that it can be quite effective.
I have practiced MA most of my life and I spent most of my life being powerful...only to learn that speed and precision will win every time.
It might be important to note that karate is both sport and art. What you are seeing here (and what some of you have been critical of) is a public demonstration. It is intended to be a spectacle - not necessarily the true art. I am not one of Sensei Stolsmark's students, but I am affiliated with the same style and hold the rank of nidan. I've seen him in action in both traditional and sport applications of the art. Here you are watching him show off. Be careful judging people on a single video.
The performance of the kata, as well as the bunkai are truly amazing. Most of the bunkai seems really efective. And the rest -I mean when Kyoshi Neil Stolsmark bows as the other guy kicks- is fun!
It's good to see someone who turned their karate into an effective ring sport style. From the footage I've seen of Stolsmark Sensei there is very little doubt in my mind that he can use his art for competition and the street. I have trained in Shorinkan and Matsumura Seito Shorin Ryu, attaining a nidan in the process. I liked your skit and it's obvious the haters who posted are mudansha who don't understand their gendai karate let alone Okinawan Shorin Ryu. The Shidokan guy especially. Respect.
All those who disrespected Sensei Stolsmark and all his students, if you are in martial arts, then you should have learned respect and obviously you missed that lesson, if you were a true martial artist, you wouldn't critize other styles because it is different than yours, Sensei Stolsmark and all his students don't disrespect or critize other styles, we appreciate them and obviouly they are true martial artists! Learn some respect and then maybe you can comment
I didn´t disrespect..I only said it´s not effective....A true sensei don´t go to championshiops...karate is not a sport, it´s martial art..championship is sport...I don´t do sport I do martial art BUDO...True senseis don´t like championships they don´t participate..Have you ever seen a big master from Okinawa in a championship??
I´m sorry what Stolsmark do it´s sport and really beautiful but not effective...sorry that´s the true
A sad, sad waste of human potential. I mean, these guys are all black belts. Which means they've probably been wasting their time doing this for years?
I guess rinacata didn't see the other videos where Sensei beats the crap out of everybody that gets in the ring with him. Maybe rinacata would like to come to the dojo and show a world champion hard contact fighter how it's done
In November of 2003, Kyoshi Nabil Nojaim hosted a great camp in El Centro, California featuring Hanshi Shuguro Nakazato and Hanshi Minoru Nakazato. Many of the Shorinkan Sensei did a short demonstration in their honor. We did Passai-sho and a bunkai/skit. Fun Stuff! -Neil Stolsmark
Kyoshi Stolsmark, you are amazing. I have enjoyed all of your video postings. I hope you are healing well & I hope to see you again in Indianapolis this May.

I respect him, as I respect any person but his karate is just exibition, not effective, only theather....It´s really good to cinema but no to real karate. I saw some applications, it´s really bad..the base is not good, ken and shuto without power

karate is only effective against another karate student. My gong fu however is effective against real fighting. this stuff is not very practical.
