The child was hers and Charles Grey's. Her husband forced her to end the affair but then discovered she was pregnant with the child so sent her into convalesence in the country where she had the baby in secret and then was forced to gave it to Charles Grey's family. If she hadn't gone along with it her husband would have made sure she never saw her other children again.

Sorry that was a bit of a loooooong explaination!
