I have a problem with my violin, i noticed that my A string was loose and out of tune. i tried tuning it ad everything thing but i can't fix the looseness i turned the peg and i wont stay in place! What should i do?
But my violin E string is broken T_T what am I going to do ? If it is broken can it be repair or fix with a new string by buying another string ??? Pls tell me ???
oh thank god i found out you can replace a string because i was crying my eyes out because i snapped a string on my viola thank you very much now i just have to buy a string
for the A and E strings, do I HAVE to put a ... uhm.. " piece of leather" on the bridge?
I read on some forum that the leather prevents the strings (especially the E) from cutting into the bridge... but seeing that the violin i got didnt come with any leather pieces, I'm wondering if i HAVE to get them...
@BobbiLane1 If you haven't gotten or found an answer to your question, it is true that with a violin, it is best to change them one at a time, yes. I have read that everywhere I've looked. To keep things in place with the pressure, that is the best way to go.
for keeping better tuning longer (less peg-slipping), it's very helpful to have the last bit of the string set close to the peg box (leftmost or rightmost places, depending on which string you're setting)
also, make sure you set the string with pegs twisting upward, or clockwise for A and E, counterclockwise for D and G. I remember in junior high, some band director stringed somebody's violin the wrong way o_o
thank you so much! can i put viola strings on a violin? i got a violin for christmas but im 1st chair viola so can i put viola strings to maintain my spot?
Thats a tricky question. What size viola have you been playing on? If anything above 14", that wouldn't work, but it might be possible if you've been using a 13" or 14" viola. Other options really depend on your situation, but could include switching to violin (a fairly easy conversion, though I understand you don't want to loose your chair) or exchanging the instrument for a viola at the shop it came from?
@MissLiveLoveDance I sit by somebody who does that...she has viola strings on a violin. It works, but it sounds really tinny and not very nice and deep like a viola should

Is it true that all G,D,A strings on a violin have a ball end and not a loop end?
robviolin1 1 year ago
@robviolin1 i think that depends... the violin i got for Xmas came with 4 ball ends (already broke the E string, and for sure it was a ball)
but im just a newbie on violins, so I cant say it for sure! :o

@robviolin1 G,D,A are all ball ends and E can be loop end
