I have been towed twice. Once I had to take a shit so bad after driving form Phoenix to LA. I parked, hopped out of the car, and went to Starbuks. Ten minutes later, car gone. Was a 'valet zone' (these clubs have some sort of deal with the city?)

I used to live in Chicago and the street cleaning tickets there are FIFTY bucks a piece! I even got a street cleaning ticket when I was parked on the side of the road that wasn't being cleaned that day. It does no good to follow the signage they post if they are going to ticket you regardless. Of course what could I do about it, its not like I could fight city hall in Chicago...

This sort of thing has been a reality in Boston for a long time. So much so that we're pretty used to it here.
I have to move my car at least three times a week (there isn't much private parking here -- street parking is much more common) to avoid it getting ticketed. But instead of simply ticketing the cars, here in Boston, street sweepers come with an entourage of tow trucks too. And if they tow you, you're forced to pay the fine (and tow fee, of course) in order to get your car back. $200+!
Ticket revenue data should be made available to the public. Spikes in ticket reveue during a recession would open the door for lawsuits.
One incentive to reduce speed traps and corrupt cops; a. Don't let cops keep any of the ticket money (No new cars or radar guns) b. Give all ticket fines to charity.
Making the police fight for their annual budget like other people could reduce this problem.

I had to pay 3 of these tickets and I didn't get this upset. The street cleaning times are marked with signs and it's completely reasonable to issue tickets. The fine is a bit much ($60 in Santa Monica) but it's needed to keep the streets clean.
I managed an apartment building in Los Angeles in the 80s. The signs were in disrepair so the cops stopped giving tickets and the street sweepers stopped cleaning the streets and they got filthy. I contacted my congressman's office got the signs replaced, the tickets began again and my street got cleaned.
You say the signage is not adequate. You and your neighbors need to get the signs corrected and mark your calendars. You are lucky to have a regular street cleaning service. I wish I did.

Not just in Cali. In Rhode Island they are doing this also. Speeding tickets for 55 in a 50 or 27 in a 25 MPH area. They dismiss the charge with a good record but you still have to pay $35 for court costs. I went court for my ticket and there was a line out the door and around the corner. Over 2 hours in line. Not only that but now they are lowering a car tax Exemption that was supposed to be phased out. I NOW must pay quarterly taxes on a car that's over 10 years old. $ making scheme.

in the city of lexington police officers break the laws all the time. I got a 200 dollar speeding ticket for driving 54 in a 35 zone, but everyone drives at least 50 on that road and yesterday a police officer ran the red light doing 60 were i got pulled over at on that same road. All I could think was; What the FUCK?!!!!!!!!

Umm. The streets don't get cleaned by themselves buddy. Public works are financed in part by tickets and local taxes. If you took the time to read the signs before you parked your car, maybe you wouldn't get ticketed MORON. I have lived in a city for many years and have only ever received 2 parking tickets! You know why smart guy? I take the time to read the signs before I leave my car. Jeez get a clue man.

@prdracing You're missing the point. The city is broke, so they're financing streetcleaning by ticketing people for parking on their own street. It sounds as though the Street Department is trying to run a for-profit business here. It's a disingenious way to raise cash. The streets were swept before ticketing started, they just went aroud the cars. The correct thing would be to raise taxes, but the will isn't there. It's gutless and underhanded.

I see both sides of this situation... but I think he is getting at an entirely different issue. It's not the ticket he received that makes him angry, its the fact that the tax payers created the street cleaning service, and now they are requesting even more money from the tax payers because we got in their way, even though we technically created the job in the first place. It's kind of like taxing your boss... if only we could (but the city can).

I have been towed twice. Once I had to take a shit so bad after driving form Phoenix to LA. I parked, hopped out of the car, and went to Starbuks. Ten minutes later, car gone. Was a 'valet zone' (these clubs have some sort of deal with the city?)
Next I misread the small sign. Car gone. STOLEN.
Both times, I EMPTIED MY BANK ACCOUNT to get my car back.
Both times were in California.

I can't believe you got away with filming them. In my state (Illinois) it is illegal to film a police officer. So, for example, if I take a picture or roll tape on a cop writing a guy a ticket, I could potentially face felony charges. Be thankful for your freedoms in California.

I used to live in Chicago and the street cleaning tickets there are FIFTY bucks a piece! I even got a street cleaning ticket when I was parked on the side of the road that wasn't being cleaned that day. It does no good to follow the signage they post if they are going to ticket you regardless. Of course what could I do about it, its not like I could fight city hall in Chicago...

GREAT VIDEO! In Pasadena, California they are starting a new 9 month "Pilot Program". Every 2nd and 4th Monday of each month, some streets 8 to 10am and others 10 am to 12pm MUST NOT PARK - or they will TOW AWAY your vehicle! $200 FINE (probably $500 with "fees") I JUST moved there and I fuckin' FLIPPED OUT. I called city hall. This "representative" of mine said people have been "begging" for YEARS to "get the streets clean" (already clean) and this is the way they do it. We're getting ROBBED!

This sort of thing has been a reality in Boston for a long time. So much so that we're pretty used to it here.
I have to move my car at least three times a week (there isn't much private parking here -- street parking is much more common) to avoid it getting ticketed. But instead of simply ticketing the cars, here in Boston, street sweepers come with an entourage of tow trucks too. And if they tow you, you're forced to pay the fine (and tow fee, of course) in order to get your car back. $200+!

Ticket revenue data should be made available to the public. Spikes in ticket reveue during a recession would open the door for lawsuits.
One incentive to reduce speed traps and corrupt cops; a. Don't let cops keep any of the ticket money (No new cars or radar guns) b. Give all ticket fines to charity.
Making the police fight for their annual budget like other people could reduce this problem.

I had to pay 3 of these tickets and I didn't get this upset. The street cleaning times are marked with signs and it's completely reasonable to issue tickets. The fine is a bit much ($60 in Santa Monica) but it's needed to keep the streets clean.

I managed an apartment building in Los Angeles in the 80s. The signs were in disrepair so the cops stopped giving tickets and the street sweepers stopped cleaning the streets and they got filthy. I contacted my congressman's office got the signs replaced, the tickets began again and my street got cleaned.
You say the signage is not adequate. You and your neighbors need to get the signs corrected and mark your calendars. You are lucky to have a regular street cleaning service. I wish I did.

Not just in Cali. In Rhode Island they are doing this also. Speeding tickets for 55 in a 50 or 27 in a 25 MPH area. They dismiss the charge with a good record but you still have to pay $35 for court costs. I went court for my ticket and there was a line out the door and around the corner. Over 2 hours in line. Not only that but now they are lowering a car tax Exemption that was supposed to be phased out. I NOW must pay quarterly taxes on a car that's over 10 years old. $ making scheme.
