  • Cutting bales of hay? What? I've worked on a farm for years and have NEVER had to CUT through bales of hay. Do you mean bailing twine?

  • @AgentMcgeek Im pretty sure thats what he means, ive never cut a bale of hay either, LOL

  • I own kershaws, SOG's and a few gerbers, but I have never went near spyderco's I just don't find the way they look very attractive, I will probably have to own one on order to appreciate it, but I don't have the desire to buy one, so I don't think I will ever appreciate one...

  • The new dragonfly has an adjustable pivot, jemping, a wire clip, and bidirectional texturing on the handle. Mine should be coming in the mail some time next week. SO excited! :D

  • I would pay the same price for the tenacious....ummm, why so pricey spyderco?!?

  • I really like this knife. Planning on getting the H1 model from cutleryshoppe for only $43! Great knife IMO for the POU.

  • Hey nutn, I know you're in to light weight knives, so just wondering have you checked out the benchmade 530

  • I want this knife SO bad! especially the H1 model. I wouldn't mind having the zdp, the regular black, and the foliage green. :D

    I want all of these.

    great review!

  • You sound mention that it is the "dragonfly 1" in the title of the video

  • @voidwareprohibited Thank you for the kind comment. I really appreciate it when dumbasses like you respond to my comments.

  • Less blade. Less money.

  • why dont u use asisted knives

  • Spydercos are pretty neat

  • @cruisingcody Yeah I agree.

  • Get a ZDP one and you will see a major upgrade.

  • Hey nutn,

if u like this knife cheek out the ladybug w/ frn handles it has jimping and only weighs .6 oz!

  • @1OfTheLocalCivillian I doubt he will like the Ladybug cause it has no pocket clip.

  • its AUSome lol

  • Do you like the new Dragonfly? It has a wire clip,VG10 steel, adjustable hardwear and it's jimped.

  • You know what sucks - price in Croatia 4 this little knife is around 100$

  • I love the G10 version, too bad they break it of in your.... $80 bucks for a Dragonfly? rediculus.

  • @xXBallistic82Xx dragonfly2 is $51 at blade ops

  • @BelairUSN I said g10 version and its $86.49.

  • Nutn, you talk about the type of steels all the time. Is there an online resource that shows the pros and cons of the steel or some other resource you can point the way to?

  • @KenpoNewsome spyderco has a good steel comparison chart on there site

  • I dont like the lock being back there though i feel as my hand would push it down and the blade would close on my finger or hand.

  • i have a bunch of liner locks and frame locks but when i saw your vids on different knives i really wanted a lock back i had em as a kid. so i got a gator 2 big but what the hell haha

  • 50 bucks altogether for the new Dragonflies, with that jimping Nutn loves oh so much, is this a good deal?

  • i got this knife today! yay but its white one.

  • I just picked up the dragonfly 2 and the fixed all the hang ups: jimping, pocket clip and they added an adjustable pivot, dude check it out

  • is the sog flash one steel horrible for rust resistence or ok?

  • @ChAnDoN864430 Not the best, not the worst.

  • flash 1 just got here! awesome!

  • Time for the Dragonfly 2 review! :)

  • where do you buy your knives at?

  • you and your jimping ;)

  • do any body know how much dose this cost ??

  • Is this blade suitable for defending one's life?

  • @ChristyTV something's better then nothing.

  • you can get it on ebay with fully serrated for 30 bucks

and the best point: it's made out of VG-10 steel!! the handle material is FRN

    great buy

  • that sog flash 1 looks a little like a fillet knife. great vid bro!

  • were do you get your knife catolog

  • What happened to the clip of the Flash I at 8:31?

  • @tengc There is only one screw, so it wiggles.

  • I got the ss handled model. I like stasinless handles on a small knife because it doesn't make a difference its still light.

  • love the G-10 Version

  • i would just throw the knife in my pocket.

  • can u add a ziptied or cut the whole to make it a "wave" knife? thx

  • @ykparty Its definatly worth a try. I dont see why it would work on other spydercos and not on this one. And if it doesnt work guess what, you can just take off the zip tie.

  • Just bought my first Spyderco ever today and it just happened to be the Dragonfly. I'm impressed right off the bat. Now I see what all the spydie guys were raving about. I was lucky enough to find one at a salvage place for $10. Perfect condition. A solid little knife that cuts like the dickens. Mine has the serrated blade, but doesn't have a depression in the back-lock. I might just have been turned to the Spydie side.

  • Why don't you review the spy bugknife

  • @TheSparrow857 Nutn doesn't like slipjoints

  • I just bought my wife one of these. She absolutely loves it. Also the kershaw chive rainbow is a good EDC for your wife.

  • I just picked up a Dragonfly in the Foliage green G-10 handle, and they "fixed" every thing on this knife to make it better. Jimping on ramp and choil, tight clip that can be left or right and hex bolts so it can be taken apart. yeah, it has liner licks which i know you don't need on a knife this small, but the rest plus the G-10 scales make up for it. It is a sweet little knife, razor sharp out of the box.

  • @oOBunnyackOo I am a tradesman and use pocket knives everyday at work. I have owned two of these knives and I really put them though the ringer and abuse them. My old serrated spyderco was the best pocket knife I ever had. I swear it never got dull. Unfortunatly I lost it. To sharpen a serrated blade you can use the corner of a sharpening stone.

  • If u want a cheap feather blade? id check out the Byrd Finch on Yourcornerstore goes for 10 bucks

  • i have other knives that i TRY to carry as MUCH as i possiblly can.. but living in an urban area, sometimes going certain places with my BM 710 or paramilitary.. might not be possible.. but this knife at this size is gana go right on my keys and ima have it on me 24/7 its small/ lightwieght/ but yet great quality ;) just ordered 1 a few hours ago...

  • too Small indeed.

  • Spyderco knives a great but I prefer the serrated blade over the plain blade. They stay sharp forever and have very good cutting power.

  • Whats your op on swiss knives thats my edc but the blades are kind of flimsy do you know any other good multitool brands im thinking of switching?

  • This still is one of your best reviews! And what an awesome little knife that is! I bought it after I saw your video and carry it every single day wherever I go.

  • cant u just use a hack saw to make jimping

  • what is wrong with SS liners?? that thing will literaly disapear into your pocket. (never the less, this one is on my list) I think liners give a knife some weight. If it doesn't go over 3 ounces then they are fine (In my opinion) another good video Nutnfancy! keep 'em coming!

  • @NoSpin13 nothing wrong with ss liners, just personal preference. i personally like the ss liners too but nutn is very tactical and likes things to be as light as possible

  • man i looked into this knife on YourCornerStore and its $37 where did you get yours

  • The prices get JACKED from each review.

  • im so tired of AUS8...i really need to start liking this stuff again...i might not order one now

  • wat angle is the blade when it comes out of the box?

  • @screwu321 im pretty sure spyderco uses a 15 degree

  • I have to stop watching his videos... he is making me want to spend money. You can have too many knives or guns... :-)

  • Same for me :P

  • Nice vid as usual. I wanted to point out though that from my experience the rust resistance on my AUS8 Dragonfly has been quite good. Before I had any of the H1 series Spydercos this was my vacation/beach/saltwater knife and I've never had more than a rust spot appear, which was easily removed, after swimming in saltwater with this in my pocket.

I just got the VG10/G10 Dragonfly this week and it is awesome! It's now my in-pocket EDC.

  • i just got the g10 one too, so sweet, just out of curiosity, did the thymbhole seem sharp to you?

  • Hey bud, yes it is, but I've noticed that most of the newer Spydercos I've purchased - Salt 1, Delica4, Ladybug H1, Dragonfly G10 and possibly even my Jester, all have a sharper edge on the thumbhole than my older Delica1, Aus8 Dragonfly and Ladybug. I actually prefer the sharper edge...better purchase as you would say!

  • I just bought one of these in stainless steel for 51$ flat. can't wait to get it.

  • The G10 Dragonfly is excellent, I highly recommend it...

  • They have a G-10 Dragonfly?

  • what internet store do you use

  • vg10 is around $90 that's why

  • Just got this knife a man it is small i bought the white frn because the endura 4 i have is white to :) thanks for the great review.

  • i would really love to see this knife in a liner lock version. i am not a huge fam of back locks but this knife seems to be pretty good. do the more expensive knives have torque construction?

  • Yeah on that pocket clip being molded I have had an Emerson Mini Commander clip bend on me after getting caught on a shoe box and my Spyderco D2 Para Military and I was pretty mad both times and I would be pretty mad if I were to break the clip on a Dragonfly. And Nutnfancy you should try both of those knives listed above especialy the Para Military if you like the Military then you will really love the Para Military.

  • im left handed and the knife companies really could care less about us on the cheap knives

  • I completely agree.

  • The Spyderco Tenacious is cheap and left handed friendly if you are looking for that kind of knife.

  • @rocky3330 dude Spyderco Tenacious????

  • @rocky3330

my kershaw is great for left handed, the finger release is handy, and after carrying bucks and knives for a long time, the kershaw has definately become my favorite. check it out if you get the chance, ive put it through hell and it has worked flawlessly.

  • @evhgl87 Ive seen a few kershaws i like. Im getting ready to get a microtech troodon and switch the pocket clip over.

  • @evhgl87 Ive seen a few kershaws i like. Im getting ready to get a microtech troodon and switch the pocket clip over.

  • @evhgl87 Ive seen a few kershaws i like. Im getting ready to get a microtech troodon and switch the pocket clip over.

  • @rocky3330 thats why they put screws to flip it

  • @ayalakids2 Not on this knife.

  • @rocky3330 same with the gun companies!!!!

  • notice at 8:31 the clip on the flash 1 shifted out of place, looks like a loose screw or something

  • im workin to get the money for a spyderco cricket

  • Could this knife be used as a "Stuff 'n Grab"? Like stuff it in your pocket and grab it when you need it? It seems small enough, and some people like to totally conceal the weapon on their person.

  • I carry a 6" titanium handled ti-lite as a defensive blade, on its pocket clip. And have a white FRN dragonfly sitting in my pocket. I almost never use the ti-lite because its so large and threatening, but the dragonfly works great for me.

  • the tenacious is better and cheaper

  • Bigger, not VG-10, as the dragonfly is now. Just unnecessarily big for most EDC tasks. I own both knives and prefer the dragonfly for EDC. They're also very close in price.

  • Is the delica 4 much larger than this one? Which one is better?

  • you cant really compare knives of two different sizes as they are typically for different POUs thus they have different "ingredients" and comparing an apple to an orange would be a commendable analogy in that case

  • now i didn't buy this knife but spyderco sells it for $60-$70 i'm not sure which it is closer to. why do they sell it at so much more than the middle-man, who by rules of logic, should sell for more than the actual company?

  • the actual company always sells it for alot more and thats with every knife company

  • Comment removed

  • just got the delica 4 ss it is so sweet.

  • Ok, nevermind I got the dragonfly today, lmted. ed. white FRN

BADASS by the way, and it is bigger than I expected!

  • hows the lock up

  • It's really tight, not going anywhere! the spring in it is strong as hell

  • does the white FRN have a plastic clip??

  • that would be sweet

  • that thing is SMALL! I held my ladybug up to the screen and it was bigger! OMG!

  • it is $37.43 at new graham=I

  • i wish they had it in G10 that would be sweet=)

  • its coming in g10 soon

  • how long do you think until it is in g10?

  • i bought the stainless version and it has VG10 steel, the plastic one only has AUS8 for some reason

  • they're coming out with a dragonfly with a wire clip in the summer

  • I bought mine for $103 Canadian with a life-time warrenty and free sharpening. I was a little upset, but glad I bought it. I put it on my car and house key ring so I always have it on my person. I forget it's there. :) I'm happy I bought it though, it has come in handy.

  • $103 canadian....that's an epic rip-off. but with import duties and all that you gotta pay more i suppose.

  • I use it a lot, but yeah...pretty big rip. I felt like I got slapped when I saw the price. Ah, well I just can't knife shop for a while now.

  • don't worry man, i got ripped off too because i live in south africa. i have 10 spydercos in all shapes and sizes and the dragonfly has become one of the knives i carry and use the most for small everyday tasks.

  • Where did he get this for $32.00? I've been looking around and it's more than that everywhere.

  • Great review!

The calypso jr FRN is VG-10, jimping, 2 7/8" blade, and weighs 1.9oz.!!

The calypso jr. comes in a variety of blades, handles, colors, and metals. But, the plain jane version is gotten for only $50, pricier EDC but solves all of the issues you mentiuon above. I've owned a calypso jr. for years and it rocks! Cheers.

  • where did you get this knife?

  • is the handle FRN or zytel?

  • I think FRN and zytel are the same.

  • frn is fiberglass reinforced nylon

    zytel is glass reinforced plastic

  • thank you

  • Comment removed

  • thanx... the Kershaw Grand County model 3100 is just as small as the chive... or maybe smaller... chive blade length- 1 15/16" and Grandcounty 1 7/8'.. both listed as 4.9cm.. but Grand county closed length is shorter... 6.8cm as compared to chive 7.3cm...the GC is lighter too... Thanx neways.. i did not know about Benchmite... but knew all the others.. i don't think Coldsteel makes micro knives...

  • what is the tiniest knife made by brand name maker... coldsteel or benchmade or spyderco or kershaw or sog or any others.. thanx..

  • cold steel is the super edge, but it isn't a folder

  • Dragonfly is an awesome knife. Actually it's one of my favourites in my Spyderco collection for light duty EDC.

  • Hmmm.

    -Bladeplay.

-Can't take it apart or even adjust the pivot.

    -Zytel handles..and zytel fixed clip..

In my opinion all these things are unacceptable for a 5 dollar knife, let alone a 30 dollar one.

Don't agree with the score at all, but good informative review though.

  • Its a feather weight, little knife. At the moment its my EDC until my Benchmade mini-Grip comes on friday.

-Mine has no bladeplay after EDCing it for ~6 monthes

-I also think the riveting sucks

-the zytel is fine but the clip isn't tight enough

    -NEEDS JIMPING

I was lucky I got mine clearence from a Sports Authority for $20 so for me it was worth it.

  • spyderco's releasing a g-10 version with jimping and a metal clip :) will be awhile before they release it though i presume

    cant wait though

  • i just got a Sprint run dragonfly with the white FRN and a VG-10 blade, and i love it!

  • i just got the dragonfly for x-mas, it has vg-10 and is one of the sharpest factory blades in my collection.

  • who cares how he pronounces a word?

  • ha, is say that too on occasion, but i understand where you're coming from. Certain things that people say annoy the living hell out of me for absolutely no reason. Just pet peevs...

  • but it looks so ugly D:

  • not really

  • it looks like a backwards kitchen knife imho. might very well be a good knife but it certainly goes with the posters name nutnfancy

  • Anyone see that white sprint model on Spyerco's website? Man i like that color, this model and the white Delica 4, "Santa, if your listening..."

  • what is your online store

  • santa's dead bro =[

  • can anyone tell me if the is a good, cheap, floding, knife for under $40.

  • The CRKT M16-10KZ is a GREAT EDC for 20.00 at any WalMart.

  • The kershaw scallion is good for small edc.around 34 at walmart

  • will it cut carrots?

  • you bet.

  • Mine arrived earlier this week and I love it already.

  • whAT color?

  • Black FRN, it's been holding up fairly nicely, but is by no means heavy duty. What would you expect?

  • Ya i got the white frn. really nice. very small!

  • Robin has jimping and is about $10 cheaper. The good news is that Sal Glesser has confirmed we are getting a G-10 dragonfly with a reversible clip.

  • Byrd knives are great!

  • Good review. For a southpaw like myself, the molded clip is right handed which limits it. Otherwise, I agree. I prefer the Spyderco hole to the Byrd comet opening. I own a G-10 Robin which is roughly the same size, though heavier, but cheaper than the FRN Dragonfly. I like the blade shape and grind better on the Dragonfly (leaf shape & flat grind vs. drop point & hollow grind for the Robin) than the Robin.

  • Hell yea brother, I only buy knives that come able to be left hand carried, bought my Benchmade Pika and switched the clip around cant be any happier.

  • I just ordered this for $30 plus shipping, and let me admit, the box really sold it for me.

  • I actually like the integrated clip. It looks more like a pen in your pocket and would raise less eyebrows in a more knife conscious area. Like you mentioned, it does ride a little higher than I'd like.

  • Looks like my old Endura just a mini version. I want something smaller as a edc/utility knife and the Dragonfly looks perfect. Thanks for the nice review.

  • dude nice i just got that knife 4 free my freinds dad knows a guy at the head of security at disney and he showed me the confiscated knife and i picked this

  • I think you have mine, LOL.

  • I wish they had put a removable clip on it and jimping on the thumb ramp. Oh well, maybe in next years model. But hey it's a low cost and nice blade, ya can't beat that. Nice review 5 stars, I'll have to add this one to the list.

  • I agree on both accounts Jabs

  • I bought two. Love the feel just handling it. The dragonfly will be my EDC for the near future.

  • I'm starting to think the Boye notch is more for quickly finding the lockback release than anything.

  • Good point; it serves no other purpose really.

  • thank you again !! i have to ask you about the cold steel American Lawman !! do you have one ??

  • No I don't but it looks good...little on the heavy side, I think 6 oz.

  • I was looking at that blade when I saw my KA BAR, I didn't really like it. But good review nonetheless.

  • i know that Spyderco makes great knives, but looks and style is important to me, and im not a fan of the style and look of most spyderco knives. But i think this one looks slightly better, and im getting it.

    Great review aswell, 5 stars

  • the thing with Spyderco knives is that they are "designed in the dark." at first glance, the shape might seem odd and a bit unattractive, but put one in your hand and start cutting, and suddenly the lights go on. they perform so well, at such a great price, that you might soon find yourself thinking that other blades aren't as attractive as the Spydies. :)

    great review, as usual.

  • we will see :) as soon as it arrives

  • wat is the legal knife carry age in pa

  • for kids under the age of 18 can carry folding knives under the blade length of 5 inches and fixed blades under 10 inches

    ur welcome:) -_-

  • Wish i had money =(
