When he was preparing for this sermon, the thought, "f- you" probably jumped out at him as if it was a bright idea, not realizing that the bright idea wasn't from God. There is no way that a person can consciously say "f- you" to someone without knowing the origin of it. Yes, it's theatrical and there are a lot of preachers who talk like that. But I don't think that that necessarily means that people want a show more than theological preaching. The other side of that argument is saying that churches with pews where everyone sits still are more interested in theological talk than the moving of the holy spirit in unexpected ways. Both assumptions are unfair. I don't think we should judge him for using modern language to make a point. Jesus did that too.
In all due respect, we can't change the meaning of a word overnight. Second, everyone there understood the context of the change to mean forgiveness which doesn’t excuse it. However to text people, identify that you are at church, and use the F phrase in the same sentence is extremely ignorant and out of order. U r sending the wrong msg. Sorry, God is not in that. This is why our Africa-American churches are dumbing down. We love theatrics more than theology. There are no longer pews in the church, but a bunch of high chairs. If we had pews in the church we would have our people serious about the word of God. When he was preparing for this sermon, the thought, "f- you" probably jumped out at him as if it was a bright idea, not realizing that the bright idea wasn't from God. Yes, it's theatrical and there are a lot of preachers who talk like that. But I don't think that that necessarily means that people want a show more than theological preaching. The other side of that argument is saying that churches with pews where everyone sits still are more interested in theological talk than the moving of the holy spirit in unexpected ways. Both assumptions are unfair. I don't think we should judge him for using modern language to make a point. Jesus did that too.

This is why our Africa-American churches are dumbing down. We love theatrics more than theology. There are no longer pews in the church, but a bunch of high chairs. If we had pews in the church we would have our people serious about the word of God.
