Soldiers running and shooting, climbing rubbles and aiming their guns, walkign among little aleys and operating equipment. The german army was not ready for the russian winter just like Napoleon's army. If that makes them stupid or not, it's not for me to say. Abkhazia was very much part of Georgia prior to 1991 on everything, but on paper, where it was taken by seperatists covertly supported by massive russian shipments of weapons and men, with the end result being that the Georgian population that constituted 46% of Abkhazias population where driven out of the province at gun point. Similarly goes for Ossetia ....

Its the same head ache that the Balts have with a large majority of their inhabitants being of russian origin and the russian state using it as an excuse to meddle in their business. The sniper sequence was far too long, resulting in in a thinning of information in the latter part of the documentary. Arguably Stalingrad was the turning point of WW2. Overall a good visual production and well presented.
I wonder what they do with the remains they find? Seems a bit sad that they are just left out in the open. They should have some common crypt to place the remains in, both Russian and German (if they cannot be distinguished).
The best part about this documentary compared to other WW2 docs is that this one has epic music that plays when they show a montage of old battle clips. :P

I did not say they were equal in brutality but both Hitler's death camps and japanese internment camps both were a HUGE violation of individual rights and scarred many people who were lucky to survive both.

Criticism of any country is warranted from time to time. The really sad thing about this is the loss of life. Note the comments at the end of this documentary about how many Russians died here. Both Stalingrad and Leningrad showed that no country in the world suffered like the Russian did.

But when the people speak about "The Great Fatherland War" they mean not the whole WW2 but the Eastern Front, the war on Russian soil. Abkhazia was very much part of Georgia prior to 1991 on everything, but on paper, where it was taken by seperatists covertly supported by massive russian shipments of weapons and men, with the end result being that the Georgian population that constituted 46% of Abkhazias population where driven out of the province at gun point. Similarly goes for Ossetia ....

The sniper sequence was far too long, resulting in in a thinning of information in the latter part of the documentary. Arguably Stalingrad was the turning point of WW2. Overall a good visual production and well presented.

I did not say they were equal in brutality but both Hitler's death camps and japanese internment camps both were a HUGE violation of individual rights and scarred many people who were lucky to survive both.

If you want to hate someone, hate the leaders who started the war. Also, you can't really say they deserve it, they are humans and suffer like us and many of them are also forced to fight, so there were also innocent guys in there.

The Brits make a good account of history , Americans are the WORST documentries. There is ALWAYS an element of PROPERGANDA or HOOHAH about americans in almost everything they document.
British more so are always Neutral and Objective which makes them better trustier documentors.

@TrelosGreek BBC makes very good documentaries but to say US makes no good ones is ridiculous. For example, Ken Burns has made several good documentaries like The Civil War and the War (about WWII). To claim all American documentaries are bad is just anti-American ranting.

I have enjoyed many American doco's, while eating popcorn. The Americans are great at making doco's that can intrest people that never were interested in a topic but none that i have seen have been 100% accurate.

The really sad thing about this is the loss of life. Note the comments at the end of this documentary about how many Russians died here. Both Stalingrad and Leningrad showed that no country in the world suffered like the Russian did.

Last jear when my grandfather died and we looked over all the documens and stuff is tumbled over one of this letters - and the documents allowing him to be flown out of Stalingrad because of an injury. One of the spookyest moments in my life, i still get goosebumps thinking about it, my father was born 1948...

Stalin brutally murdered tens of millions of his own countrymen. He was vicious, iron hearted and even took out some of his closest friends. He instuted a failed communist system which sunk his country into poverty. And this is your idol? Czar Nicholas Romanov was hundreds of times better than him and even Hitler could not nearly match Stalin mass murdering and evil ways. There wasnt ever system called "Communism" USSR was sosialistic state aiming for communism. I agree that Stalin is not that good leader, but did you count good things he did. Most faumos was his 5 year plan. Any way if you are looking some one who can tell you about him search in YouTube JosephVStalin and look at 1st vid. Lenin would be much better leader (in my opinion)

Yeah and they both will bargain of ruling each half of the world for each of them, If both came up to that idea it may have been a harder, longer fought WW2, but the A Bomb I believe will still bring the success and annihilate the enemies, and those two I think will not agree to the Idea of who will call the shots.

But in fact, Russia was just too ethnic in general for hitler's liking between the jews, kurds and countless other ethnic groups, he wanted to wipe them all out. his hatred got the best of him and it doomed his whole country.

He was a dictator, but was,t only one who killed people. In war time since 1941 till 1945 all the power was in Stalin,s hands. After the war his power was unbeliveble strong becose the USSR won. But before the war he was't so powerful. What fore was made gulags? A lot of preasoners was comunists, a lot of them exoficers.

@ngfan1 many of the newer generations are taught and believe that Stalin was the hero of the soviet union, he was kind-hearted and did no wrong, he prevalently defended the USSR through his own sacrifice and selflessness won over the hearts of the people of the soviet union. That could not be further from the truth, in honesty I often debate with my fellow historian colleagues who has killed (directly or indirectly) more people in his lifetime, Hitler, Stalin, or Kim Jong il (I think its Stalin)
