  • Any way you can re-upload it with a louder volume? I'm playing it thru a 500 watt Klipsch system and I should be able to raise the roof but I can't get there because of the lower recording volume?

  • Driving bass line. Dark, poetic lyrics any angst-ridden adolescent would relate to. Deep, interesting vocal expressions. Its a timeless tune.

Too bad it isn't louder, and not on vevo.

  • 106.7 KROQ LOS ANGELES

  • @kojakbangbang7

    WNEW 102.7 NYC

  • awesome

  • Amazing song from an amazing album

  • Who's the guy in sunglasses sitting behind Pat?

  • @99somerville i signed in just to comment on that fact. wtf is he doing there? "oh....uh....just smokin, sorry."

  • CLASSIC THIS BAND IS THE BEST ~

  • bass line is epic

  • I'm usually not an 80s fan..but this song is really great.

  • If you're in Vegas, check out Pat's new show at the Riviera "Confessions of a Rock Star". I caught it last night during the media performance... The guy can talk story!

  • I heard Pat DiNizio wrote this about a girl he dated who passed away. I think she committed suicide. This makes me think of an ex-girlfriend who passed away. She was larger than life. She was like Stevie Nicks meets Elvira.

EMI sucks shit. They never should have dropped The Smithereens.

  • Long live the Smithereens...

  • i heard this song for the first time from my uncles band. now i like these guys. p.s, i never heard of these guys b4 tell my uncle. i'll remember of this song of my uncle and his band.

  • I tried to live, but YOU didn't belong....

  • 10 people want to love, but it comes out wrong.

  • This song is like the beat of a train thats about to pass through your city and kick everyones ass.

  • 9 people have no Blood and no Roses

  • How would you like your daughter to bring the singer from this band home..?!

  • I've been a fan forever! A band that can actually write great lyrics! Amazing!

  • This song is so cool. I was listening to it at work today.

  • first heard Blood and Roses playing off a TV at the Meat Market nightclub in Greensboro,NC from an episode of Miami Vice ... what a time ... what a band !!

  • VEVO eats its own shit.

  • these guys rocked in the day, they were loud and proud

  • I love Pat's "beat" look in this video. Saw their first 3 tours in Seattle, and they were great. The bass player is fun to watch live. Plus Pat kinda looks like that priest guy in the original Stargate movie.

  • 9 people can go suck it

  • Love that jingle jangle

  • I know how you feel Mr JimmyPage32!!! The music was so much better then. They still give me goose bumps! Music then was about passion, telling a story,or at least great talent. Now most of it SUCKS!! I even prefer speakers from the 80's-classic sound. Where's that damn time machine?? Great music, great times, better health, heck I even had hair!!!!

  • @nickfle I love this song too, but don't be fooled. There was some pretty bad music in the eighties. A lot of it actually. It is just that the bad stuff is forgotten and the good stuff lives on. I believe it is the same with every era of music.

  • @thegools Then I guess not a damn thing will live on from the 2010's... or at least I hope not!

  • The very best example of an I Dont Give a Fuck Rock and Roll band ever

  • Romy and Michele's High School Reunion!!!!! ^_^

  • This song is in my 'Top 25 Most Played' playlist on iTunes, running at #1 with 539 plays. Thank you, Smithereens.

  • Btw, who's that guy in the background with the sun glasses on just kind of sitting there, hanging out

  • @thepaleone ..Thats Gene Frenkel, the legendary cowbellist.

  • Guitar player looks bored, ha. These guys should have been bigger then they were.. Well, if most of their stuff sounded more like this.

  • When this song came out, I was playing in a band and the drummer turned me on to this song. We played the crap out of this song. This is a song that will stand the test of time. It is just flat out one of my favorite songs to cover. Being a bass player, you know why. It's just cool!

  • Title probably inspired by the name of a ROGER VADIM movie. Motif of song probably einspired by the "death songs" of the 60s.

  • derek jammed on the drums

  • Please Lord,Send me Back to the 80',I'm dying in this era of 2011, God have a mercy of me,you have power to do it,Lord

  • Please Lord,Send me Back to the 80',I'm dying in this era of 2011, God have a mercy of me,you have power to do it,Lord

  • me and dave kick ass on this song!

  • man, my uncle does a cover of this song and it feels like i'm right in front of this band these guys kick fucking ass

  • ahhhhh, it all falls into place: the verses

    about a girl, anyone?

  • I love their little nods and cues to each other. You never see that in videos.

  • Great band. Cy looks like Dobie Gillis...

  • The guy in the sunglasses is Cy Sperling

  • Just saw them tonight at the Blue Ocean Music Hall, Salisbury, MA and they still kick ass. The new stuff is great but I love the songs I can still sing along to. Thanx guys for a great evening!

  • "I want to love, but it comes out wrong" fucking great lyric

  • Hands down tightest, most cool tune they ever did.

Don't recall the movie that it was on the soundtrack but, this is so good it made the movie better.

  • @medic357 think the movie was called dangerously close.

  • The Smithereens rocked back then and listening to them now...they still rock!

  • Tone only a Ric Guitar can produce! Incredible band!

  • Kanye sucks.

  • Awesome bass part!

  • if his ears were pointed he would look like a Vulcan.?

  • Great song, I love how the lead singer looks like a 60's beatnik and the drummer looks like Bun E. Carlos from Cheap Trick. Rock on dudes.

  • Just wondering, Do you guys know what this guy is talking about? It is a very 'thoughtful' song and I've felt this way for a long time!!! He is talking about the love of his life that he marries commits suicide. Just in case you didn't realize.............

  • @christiereschke -i have always thought she died too. Is that a true story?

    My favorite song of theirs.

  • i love how jim takes the cigarette right before the solo lol these guys are the colest:D

  • This is a fucking classic...period!

  • yo SuperNick this is the better music all these bands today lack talent like The Smithereens I saw them live in Anapolis back in January if this band sucks then why did you listen to the song SuperNick why so we can see what a Horses ass you really are

  • Wicked! Wicked! Wicked!

  • i love this song!

  • love it

  • What a great song! Simple yet so powerfull. The bass player really gets into the music and that makes it so much more entertaning.

  • In this video the guitarist looks like an extra from the Sopranos and the bass player looks like a young Springsteen.

    I love the Smithereens.

  • Esto es rock ' nd roll en serio.Clasico.Buenisimo. Justin Bieber . Who is he ? Come on please. It's not comparade.

  • Esto es rock ' nd roll en serio.Clasico.Buenisimo.

  • Man...what has happened to music today...it was so cool and intelligent and worth listening to back then..!!!

  • this song Fucking Rocks!!!! Damn, im putting this on my "playlist" its just too good!!

  • one of the few bands worth turning the radio on for in the 80s

  • I heard they wrote that for a movie

  • i checked this out cause apparently as nirvana were writting/recording for their first album bleach they drove and listened alot to a cassette with celtic frost one one side, smitherines on the other...... i think definately had a subtle influence

  • 9 people like avenged sevenfold

  • SMITHEREENS ARE AWESOME! NEW JERSEY BAND.....MOVE TO THE SIDE BON JOVI

  • Would be awesome hearing Justin Bieber cover this tune.

  • @MisterKamikazi how dare you diss justin bieber like that I like him!

  • @trulychloe Fuck Justin Bieber , he's a punk!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw them live last night they were DYNAMITE!!! new bassist rocks!

  • great song..bass player has something electric up his butt....

  • New bands can rock too. But damn right, bring back more of the rock..

  • More evidence that the 80s was the best decade for rock/pop music! Thanks for posting this classic.

  • can someone upload afternoon tea.

  • i agree... check out honeymoon babies magic on u tube

  • @goldenboy960

    Thx for the suggestion...great tune!

  • @goldenboy960

    Thx for the suggestion...great tune!

  • great song...great band...but man,that caesar haircut.....ughhhhhhhhh :)

  • I HEARD THE LIVE PLAY OF THIS . THIS SONG MADE ME A BIG FAN !!!!!

  • Criminally overlooked band. Vocals and music are perfect. They sounded like nobody else, and nobody has come close to sounding like them

  • Cool song from a very underrated band. What movie is this song from?

  • The greatest " underated " band of the 1980's! When I first heard it I was koncked out loaded in 1986. Mike Mesaros is one of the last great rock bassists. They have a replacement these days, Check out "since you went away" a recent new original on youtube.

  • fucking ads

  • great song,,,and band ...mp

  • Won't ya look at that Rickenbacker... LOOK AT IT!

  • @ACornyCrayon It's a damn beautiful guitar.

  • @pjperez

    You're damn right it is.

  • I can remember when MTV played this all the time. Great song, great band.

  • a face made for radio.

  • Looooove this song, I had this recorded on tape a long time ago, never knew who the band was. Love the bass, classic stuff!!

  • Great song. I only heard about it because someone told me Supersonic by Oasis has almost the same chorus

  • Great band!

  • thanks for the memories... many ..

  • I heard this in Romy and Michelles high school reunion. xo

  • the 1986 album “Especially For You” was a favorite of Kurt Cobain and the best song on that album is the funk-infused “Blood and Roses.”

  • @danialjohan84 interesting because I do hear a bit of Nirvana in there with the deep guitar riffs.

  • Really kilroe?! You just listened to this great song and all you can do is put down rap? The best way to make something go away is to never to speak of it...think about it....peace

  • nice to see real music and not a bunch of dubbing and syns. who makes real sh*** anymore

seems like artists nowadays just dub over 80's songs and call it art. bs

  • never heard of this song tell i went to my uncle's band practice he did a cover then i ask him what song is this he said blood and roses and i look it up and i said THIS IS BAND FUCKING ROCKS

  • One of the coolest songs ever!!

  • man this band was so cool!!...these bands nowaday suck!!

  • Ooh, these guys did good. I love Blood & Roses. Blood & Roses I love it very much, O_O. [sighs] they look nice for singing and singing songs.

  • Dangerously Close is only on VHS and it is a pretty rare 80s movie.

  • Dangerously Close

    THE KRUEG WARRIOR

  • The guy in the back sitting down wearing the shades remindes me of an actor back in the 80's. He played in alot of tv shows. I just can't place his name>

  • These guys were the nerds of 'rock'.

4 massively uncool guys trying very very hard.

    Music had its strengths though.

    Fuck off VEVO.

Always thumb down VEVO parasite vids... regardless of how the content is.

  • chi se li ricorda?

  • This one of my favorite bands of all, but Pat sure does have a awful haircut though, lol..

  • What I always liked about this band was that they seemed to be just regular average looking guys who happened to be outstanding musicians. Quite a departure from other bands of that period.

  • who's the tough guy in the back, sitting behind dinizio, w/ the shades on?..

  • Who is the guy in sunglasses just hanging out there behind DiNizio?

  • Comment removed

  • @beccita : charly sheen, haha!

  • I requested "Only a memory" from the radio when I lived in Michigan in 1999- they called the Smithereens "The best garage band in the world".

  • Pure class!

  • isnt it retarded that we can link to a vid of any song but not just the audio? why isnt there a site fer that?

  • Bieber is not allowed to share the same page as this band!

  • bieber is not allowed ro share the page as this band

  • Right up my alley.

  • Can we rename VEVO to VESLOW?

  • @gingermol76 no,its suckhole

  • @russellrosario ok. I like that better

  • the audio is low on this ...wierd

  • Real material for Sinners Day Festival 2011 in Hasselt (B)

  • I get kick out of the way the drummer is cued for the lead guitar solo at 1:35, as if he didn't know it would start on the next bar. It gives a impromptu gig feeling to the recording. The group still plays, but not together in its original lineup. The bass player left some time ago... but he spent 20 years in the job.

  • They still play at the local festival every year in Scotch Plains, NJ. they are a bunch of fat guys now

  • @dmerer only pat is fat. and apparently bitter.

  • @fugepoo bullcrap....The Smithereens still play all the time.

  • @Rhezoloution When did I say they didn't play? I saw them a month ago.

  • Greatest song ever in the History Of The World

  • Comment removed

  • Just watched the movie "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion", and this song was in it! Gosh, it's from 1986?? I thought it was more recent...it "doesn't seem so long ago"... AM I THAT OLD, to think songs from my mid-20's are recent? Where has all the good music gone? Let's bring it back, if we can. We can become older, but we don't have to outgrow great music!

  • I remember hearing Mrs. Connoly talk about being in the car when Kennedy was killed and how her lasting memory was of strange mix of "Blood and Roses."

  • Real rock band!

  • these guys were the early weezer of the 80's

  • never new moes last name was howard, LOL

  • love this song......hey...i never knew Moe Howard was the lead singer

  • ROCXK

  • ROCK!~

  • Best thing to come out of New Jersey!

  • Carteret NJ's Finest...............

  • @dockie1964 Yes they were

  • 1st time I heard this was from the flick "Dangerously close". 1986?!

  • great tune.... but who the fuck styles his hair ?

  • @sideslungtongue carl from slingblade.

  • The Smithereens are having a 30th year anniversary homecoming free concert in Carteret Park Carteret,Nj on September 4th. Cant wait to see it!

  • My favourite song from Smithereens!!

  • This song gives me chills - every time...

    Awesome!!!

  • Unmistakable voice... Looks like Spock's son.

  • @drmr007 Hahahahahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaa!!! good call on the spock thing. Great song

  • the rif at 1:50 is the best part of the song great song

  • @mtsoul61 yeah, that is such a great, understated but perfect solo, especially the growling, gutbucking 1:53-2:06 riff and played LOUD goes down to your bones

  • Did the bassist do an 8-ball?

  • we need 80's bands like this and get rid of rap and hip hop crap

  • @kilroe3 amen!

  • @kilroe3 rap is keeping music alive retard

  • @Sinsmiddy No it's not, it killed music....there use to be a variety of music, now its all rap/hip hop/dance crap...very sad...

  • @kilroe3 Hip hop and rock can peacefully co-exist, it doesn't have to be one or the other. Hip hop existed when the Smithereens were popular. Comments like yours are the reason why we can't have nice things.

  • @kilroe3 thumbs up my friend, you speak the truth, rap is short for crap

  • A great band that fell between post-punk and grunge.

  • I recall the band back in the mid 80's. I also recall this on MTV and this song was played on Miami Vice once, then again I heard it on Romy and Michelle's High School reunion when Janeane Garofalo and the cowboy were in high school smoking their cigarettes and she never had time. That's why she came up with the quick burning cigarettes. A girl like you has a great sound too.

  • How good is his voice? One of the best voices I have ever heard

  • @TheScotsAussie yeah man, the best rock voices in my opinion are: Dinizio, Dando, Cobain.

  • @adebicki lolZ0r @ Dando

  • @MeatCloud "lolZ0r"?.. i don't understand?..

  • Spring Break 1989 Panama City Beach Florida, they played in a hole in the wall and it was one of the best concerts I have been too, granted I was really toasted but they played great

  • I haven't listened to this song much lately (even though it's on my iPod). But, the lyrics have been in my mind nonstop for over a month now.

I guess I'll hear the song at the Bucks reunion.

  • Something about this song rang a bell... I finally figured it out. The chords, the progression, bassline and even the bridge match Blood on the Scarecrow by John Mellencamp. Only the tempo and the lyrics differ. Strange that would both have "Blood" in the title.
