  • I'm listenning the song for the third time today... Sorry, i'm not a musician but what you play doesn't sound like Placebo's version, which is Daybreakers theme song.

  • @Touvda Hi, yeah you're right, this is my version, I never try to sound exactly like original artists, but if someone gets to grips with the chord structure they should be able to work towards playing most other style and versions of the song. Thanks for listening

  • @perfectbudgie Okay ! Sorry, I may have been a little bit aggressive. Very good job, good continuation :-)

  • dude thank you

  • Very interesting and helpful, and I learned a lot. Thanks.

A couple of minor criticisms: the connection of blues with Kate Bush's music -- and this goes for nearly all of it -- is a real stretch. Virtually all of her musical output has been based mainly on the classical harmonic tradition as informed by folk music, mainly from the British Isles. She herself has said as much on several occasions.

Also, the progression here has a far longer history in Classical/Romantic music than in blues.

  • Hi Bolto, thanks for your comments which are very constructive. Yes, I'm probably stretching things on the video when I state that it seems to me the song is based on a blues theme. What I should have said of course is that it can easily be treated as so, as with much music with a ii-V-I or IV-V-I progression. I too was classically trained at Uni so I acknowledge the debt that blues owes to the classical greats. By the way, I grew up with the Kate Bush version, but was asked to play Placebo!

  • It's worth mentioning also that virtually any sequence of minor and 7 chords can be tinted with a blues flavor, not just the chords in Running Up That Hill.

Final point to all who see this video: please try to remember that Placebo had nothing to do with the creation of this song; they simply recorded a rudimentary cover version of a great original song by Kate Bush, whose 1985 recording of it remains vastly preferable to any and all later treatments.

    Thanks again.
