@phekwig It's so old fashioned but it still works today providing you have high ceilings and a warm dry place to put it. Clothes dry in hours! Cheers, Lesley
@lolaknows It's one of those things that's not everywhere so I thought it was worth showing! Works so well without you having to think about it or keep an eye on our changeable weather here in the UK! Cheers, Lesley
Hi there Lesley! Bravo on saving a bit of energy. Looks like a great way to do things. I'd install one of those myself if I had a nice tall stairway. I have to duck my head when I go up and down the stairs here as it is though.
@Blinkazoid Thanks Robert, you're right the key really is the tall ceilings. A lot of the great old houses over here had them in the hot kitchen to dry things. We wouldn't be able to dry sheets without them being in the way, anywhere else in the house. Cheers, Lesley
That is a brilliant dry rack! Just love that! Really 3 racks and a pulley system! Genious i tell you. I guess softener can make them a bit softener. Great share and ill approve the resp, and then go maker sure my dogs didnt pull off the sheets and things on the clothesline!! :D
@cooksterz Glad you liked it, I saw your video while I was doing laundry on a wet day so thought I'd show you a different approach. When it's dry outside I use a rotary line with pegs (clothes pins) and I love the smell of sheets dried that way. The only casualties this way are sometimes you knock things off and they land on peoples heads as they come up the stairs! Cheers, Lesley
That is brilliant. I wish I had something like that years ago. One day I put the sheets on the line outside after a rain. The ground was still muddy. My dog decided it would be fun to run through the sheets. They got covered in mud.
@timido66 Van it's a lifesaver as I can hang things indoors if our weather looks a bit iffy and I'm going out. It would take a very acrobatic dog to get to the sheets on this rack! Not all houses would have room to hang one like we do, our wide landing means I can reach everything too. Cheers, Lesley
@fairplay9449 I really like houses from the Edwardian era as they have such high ceilings which makes them feel spacious and in this case allows us lots of headroom up the stairs even with a load of washing! Cheers, Lesley
@weeknightingale We've always had one in my family and Joe and I got this for our old house. The lady who bought the house wanted us to leave it but there was no way I'd give it up. It may be old fashioned but it works so well, it takes a whole load of washing and dries overnight! Cheers, Lesley
@LeSaMilano I don't like washing towels with fabric conditioner because it makes them less absorbant but Joe doesn't like his scratchy! It's great for laundry and you see them in the old historic houses in the warm kitchen. They should make an energy saving comeback! Cheers, Lesley
My aunty had one of these but we just called it 'the pully'... i usually dry my laundry on the line outside, but on a wet day i hang clothes on hangers and towels over the maiden on the landing... so it's the same sort of set-up as you..using the heat in the house to dry it... i do have a dryer but i rarely use it
... probably just as well now that gas and electricity is going up so much
@twish1999 My mum called ours the rack and it was in the kitchen, Joe's mum calls it a Sheila's maid which was how it was sold. We moved this from our old house because it's essential and takes up no extra space. My mum also had a wooden Maiden which I've heard other people call a clothes horse, but that used to get in the way a bit! I bought a tumble drier for emergencies, 2nd hand on ebay. I have in the past put on the heating to dry things on radiators which was crazy. Cheers, Lesley
That's a very practical idea...

crispy aired dried towels make for good exfoliation! I like your stair gizmo.
