  • I love how he started to investigate the camera toward the end. It's kinda like how babies learn. They put everything in their mouths! Lol

  • quit fucking the camara!!! at 1:01

  • These creatures are fascinating! very intelligent.

  • Poor Paul......!!! I bet my ass he ain´t got what it takes to predict what´s coming for him!!! HE`S GOING TO BE EATEN ALIVE...Can you predict that poor Paul?

GERMANS are coming paul..better you run your octopus ass off!! hahahahaaha Poorl Paul!!!! you are going to become bavarian food with potatoes!!!

  • My dog has blog. He updates it from his Iphone.

  • EVOLOUTION!!! lololol spelled it wrong!

  • I had an octopus as a pet (Clyde). He used to sleep in a shell and would use another shell as his door. This was 6yrs ago so I wasn't too surprised by this. Clyde also had great facial recognition. He would come up to the glass and sway side to side when it was dinner time. He was very smart.

  • wow thats like some kind of alien life form. this is not human!!!

  • uhm how is this a first? dont birds do this to make nests all the time, and bees, and even squirrels?

  • those all have a back bone this on doesnt verdibrate - backbone

    inverdibrate - no back bone

  • Those are easy popular regular things outside. You never went scuba diving an seen a octopus using coconut shell as shelter, there's even more videos over there of the octopus walking around with the shell in its grasp moving the shell to where it wants it.

  • That's instinctual behavior. This is interesting because it appears to be learned. You find tool use in other animals as well, I'll give you that; chimpanzees use sticks to get into termite mounds, sea otters use rocks to break open clams, etc. This is interesting because it's the first known instance of an invertebrate utilizing tools, as the man in the video said.

  • I thought all their brain power went to changing skin color

  • In the ocean the Octopus would have observed other animals hiding in their shells so therefore thinks the coconut is a shell for it to hide in. Great Video!!! I get a great deal of amusement watching the antics of an octopus. They really are quite intelligent and great mimics.

  • If I picked up something like that, say an umbrella to shield me from the rain or a bunch of leaves for a tent, everyone would agree that it's a tool. If a lowly veined octopus uses it, of course not it is too stupid, or so we think.... well how vain we are.

    mike

  • We think wer'e so special.

  • but we are, what took most likely millions of them to figure out only took a few humans, not to mention that when this specimen dies so will all his knowledge! they don't teach their new borns anything! when compared to an octopus yes we are special... but I'd have to agree with u on the fact that humans give themselves to much credit as often as they can!

  • That doesn't make us special it just makes us different.

    Human arrogance.

  • when it makes you the most successful animal on the planet, id have to say your just a lil bit special xD

  • @BCT071

and we're not? yes, i get that animals can be sophisticated too, but REMEMBER, when using the word sophisticated in this context, ur comparing it to normal animal behaviour. i can pound a nail in a piece of wood with a hammer maybe they should make a documentary about me. im just saying that yes, this is pretty cool to see an animal doing this, but now all of a sudden u go all tree hugger saying humans arent special? i dont see bears building elevators or telephones

  • Define "special" in this context.

  • an animal that was able to make a rocket fly to the moon, is considered special among many other things. ur being a little smart ass. u just want to look all caring for the environment and i get that. but theres caring for animals, then theres just sharing a stupid comment like humans arent "special" compared to other animals. i would like for u to get me a snail who can conduct heart surgery on me. think u can do that?

  • @abelign1991

Exactly what contribution did you make to sending rockets to the moon?

And how many heart surgeries have you performed?

I'm guessing zero on both counts.

    But your'e not alone.

These are not skills naturally possessed by the whole species.

You are a hunter/gatherer like most homosapiens, myself included.

Do not flatter our species by attributing the outstanding achievements of the few or "special" to the species as a whole.

  • @BCT071

our species is able to adapt and learn things other species cant. just because a young boy isnt a surgeon doesnt mean he cant be one without the education. our species is fucking way above others just mop up ur wet pussies already u damn treehuggers gosh

  • If you feel the need to apply the label "special" to yourself and your species GO FOR IT!!!

    I do not.

  • alright thank you finally

  • humans are quite suited for surviving but that doesn't make us special. I'd say we are different. Still though we should try to preserve all the species on our planet (or alter them) as long as it takes to make them on the same level of cognition as us.

  • For you older youtubers, I guess you put the octopus in the coconut not the lime.

  • That is awesome.

  • not that impressed at all, but when we start to find animal made weaopns of mass desturuction, and we decide to start war whit em, then im impressed.

  • LMAO i think i would probably run the other way

  • so is he cuckoo for coconuts then. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALL.

  • :48 "You're in a classified area. No photos."

  • soo cute.... he lives in coconuts, but be ware! Crazy island mens may ate you.! ^^

  • Octopuses used in war to carry underwater explosives!

  • Get ready, octopus will be making mines, harpoons and explosives.

  • Ohai camera! Lemme give you a hug! <3

  • That's cool.

  • oh my, tentacles!

  • Cool!

  • so the octos have reached the stone age, we'd better watch our backs

  • Nature keeps surprising us every time.

  • Meanwhile, I make a house out of coconuts and everyone calls me a crazy dumbass.

  • U-MAN ,??? think again
