  • 5-14-78 Prov was my first show (the Keith & Donna era). just thankful the majority of the 200+ shows I attended were when Jerry was alive. Some VERY good memories, and the bus ride continues with no stops in sight...ride on Captain!

  • Saw my 1st show in 1987. The bus came by, and I got on, that's when it all began. Saw my last show at Soldier FIeld 07/09/95. If I had only known It would be the last time, I probably wouldn't have been drinking so much beer. I still remember thinking, this is fucking awesome.I love the Grateful Dead!

  • Is it crazy that I'm only 15, my name is Rose, and this is my favorite song? :)

  • FANTASTIC!!! Thank you.

  • Genious

  • NYNY

  • 6 people are not rambling on with the rose.

  • phill lesh is lookin like a cutie in this video lol

  • just graduated from college - deadhead since I was born

  • Graham Nash gave Jerry that guitar because his main one was broken.

  • Jerry had the best voice

  • Did The Dead play 2 concerts in Copenhagen? Friday the 14 of april and monday the 17. too? With a short trip to Århus with a concert on saturday....

I only recall one....But then again...my memory ain't what it used to be!

  • @SurroundedByWugs You're correct other than the Arhus show was on a Sunday. Still a pretty darn good memory you got there!

  • Their All With Us Forever and Ever

  • @pinkfloydrulez: Exactly! Their studio releases didn't do well so they realized this raw sound is what the public wanted. And it's all hustory from there!

  • i'm 36 and love the dead. the music is not ageless its like coltrane or mozart if it clicks with you it clicks

  • I love this show! I love one-drummer Dead.

  • Just think of all the songs they had not written yet!

  • Best band ever to come out of the U.S.A !

  • @TheYankees2300 true that! best band in the world i think. americans are always saying best in the world this that, but the the GD, they are the best band in the world.

  • saw furthur do this at all good this weekend, soooo fantastic

  • I love the sound of the music on all of these old videos from this set. Like, the way it was recorded or something... It's not pristine and clear like all the official releases, but it's just slightly... vintage. dusty. smoky room vibe. as if it has aged like a fine wine. it's perfect for the music and the band. I think I prefer it.

    yeah, I do. <3

  • @PinkFloydrulez It's called live music!

  • Dont miss them celebrate them, Further,DSO lots of great dead music still floatin around.

  • Classic dead tune....jerry will live on forever through his music and dead heads of course.

  • only went to one dead show, and i was too young to remember.. it sucks to be born into the wrong generation

  • im 19 and just started listening to them. Been looking for mellow music. boy, did i hit the jackpot.

  • Long live Jerry Garcia

  • @Kerbabble Long live The Dead!

  • just like nyc,,,,,bxny is in the house

  • This is one great tune from one great band.

  • This song is true music. The greatest collection of musicians to ever live. How I wish I could've been old enough to remember seeing them before Jerry passed.

  • One of My Faves! <3

  • There is only love <3

  • only 41!!! fuck im 14 and i love em since i was 4...them and baseball.... bronx ny,,,he should love this song should life,,,,,,liive it,,,,,,,,

  • I love the dead

    God I miss Jerry

  • god damn heroin...... It takes away a lot of great people.

  • @bonghitlover So do heart attacks =(h

  • @bonghitlover

Try not to think about that kinda stuff. Jerry was a great man and we all have faults

  • @Pucknut3ond No doubt about that! He is missed by a lot of people across the world.... there will never be anything like a Dead Show, Jerry can't be replaced!!!

  • WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is a rollicking good version! So glad this video exists.

  • @spacemeddle, phil had some sort of serious throat condition, i think something might have ruptured. not sure about the details, but either way he couldn't sing at all for a long time and could never do the high stuff again. it really is a shame, but at least he can still play!

  • thumbs up for being under 18 and appreciating REAL music.

  • I'm always thrilled when I meet or hear of young people today that "get" this music the way we did (and do). Word of advice to scarl3tbeg0nias: Go see "Furthur" ASAP.

  • incredibly literate Hunter lyrics

  • Robert Hunter wrote at least 70% of ALL dead music...incredible work of genius between him and the band. The Dead will never died and the music will never stop. Also, I would like to add...Pigpen for President

  • @dedhead247420 Hunter never wrote a single note - he scribbled the words. A damn incredible job I might add.

  • @rocinante88 Actually he did sometimes, Jerry would usually rewrite the music though.

  • Robert Hunter wrote at least 70% of ALL dead music...incredible work of genius between him and the band. The Dead will never died and the music will never stop

  • Does anyone know what happened to Phil Lesh's incredibly high vocal parts? Were they just replaced by backup singers in like 77' ? Its a shame, it was really cool when they just did the vocals, back singers seem to add along to that more laid back vibe that the Dead had live around the 80's and up.

  • @Todsmack4 Don't forget Live/Dead!

  • JERRY JERRY JERRY...LEts not forget HUNTER who wrote all these crazy verses!!

  • Europe 72,the absolute best live compilation

of all, many memories go along with the masterpiece done.....May the

    memories always live on forever...

  • what about santa...... maybe jerry IS santa.... JUST KIDDING REALLY.... NO COMMENTS ON MY COMMENT

  • Jerry Garcia must be the only man in the world whose beard makes him look friendlier

  • @jewtomato19 what about romeo stodart? ^^

  • haha at 3:20 kreutzmann loses his stick lol

  • always grateful

  • I love this song :)

  • I'll add this 2my playlist in memory of David Wade Austin, who was born on Cinco de Mayo &loved this song... I'm sure he's shakin his tambourine rite now by the old tree, (him & Jerry, lol) just waiting til he can share his adventures of late with me... He really liked this tune. Rest in peace, Dave

  • klassik dead.....hell yeah!!!!!

  • why would you bother hangin around Gateway park

  • My Fender Strat is named after this song. Her name is "Ramble On Rosa" because it's the first song I ever played on her and the Rosa is because she was made in Mexico.

  • @coffeecoffee25 how cool is that, great choice to name her!

  • "Goodbye Mama and Papa, Goodbye Jack and Jill. The wine ain't sweeter, the grass ain't greener, on either side of the hill."

Thats pretty much life right there , ain't it ?

  • I don't think people will still be listening to the crap thats out today or 99% of all rap music ever made almost 40 years from now...but they will still be listening to the Dead and the like.

  • The Grateful Dead. America's band. I so miss them.

  • @mikestrat56 They're not America's band, and therein lies the problem.

  • Oh,ya! I had me a big ass bowl of pipe carved from the bark of a tree.So the pipe was literally all bark, except for the smooth inside. Smoked a big one before morning class and left it where I put it down. Sheeeeiiit!! Never have and never will find another pipe like that. Bought it (for nothing) way up in the Catskills where my family lived and lives. High elevation, gettin' high at night with the speakers outside(no one else for miles) with The Dead blasting. Nothing but stars............

  • @TheElissaS

you sir, know what the good life means

  • Feeling it at 5:26

  • The Grateful Dead in their prime, so evocative of times gone by....

  • 1972...fine year. Thanks boys.

  • Imagine that soon it´ll be 15 years since Jerry Garcia died. Where does the time go?

    Rest in peace man.

  • God bless the Grateful Dead. They will reign eternal.

  • The most beautiful jam song in the world!!!

  • this. song. is fucking. EPIC.

  • AHH, Jerry with the strat, bobby with the Gibber... no better days.

  • im only 16, but god damn i love the dead!

  • @scarl3tbeg0nias Doesn't matter how old you are, great music is great music.

  • @scarl3tbeg0nias Hell ya man

  • @scarl3tbeg0nias Nice to hear that there are youngsters out there who can appreciate good music.

  • So cool that Bill Gates was with the Dead before Microsoft

  • @mgharrisr22 MAYBE THAT IS PHIL LESH.wwwwwww

  • I bet the entire Christianiasociety was there.

I have heard very few songs of this band I didn´t like.

  • Good Vibes and love to y'all : )

  • My favorite dead song of all time

The allusions and metaphors complete my life.

  • one of my ALL TIME FAVORITES!

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP AND JUST LISTEN TO THE SONG PEOPLE...AND MR BLACKBERRY...yourt the worst kind of sheep....and mr A in physics fuck off is that degree or report card, progress report...w.e the fuck it is ganna keep u warm when you die.....cause guess what..in the end its alll fuckin worthless...your BLACKBERRY (lmfao) your grades...your money.,,, all of that.... all that youll have is your memories and word of mouth...and i for one will be able to call you a typical douche :) have a nice day ass

  • This song should be the replacement for the national anthem in America, either this one, or US Blues. Yeah, ours is rubbish over here in the UK too, as are all national anthems.

  • Thanks for the quality sound on this vid. Very sweet!

  • "good bye mama and papa, good bye jack and jill, the grass ain't greener, the wine ain't sweeter, either side of the hill"

reminds me of growing up and striking out on my own. thanks boys!

  • I was lucky enough to see the Dead twentythree times while jerry(pbuh) was on this earth. Garcia Band twice, and I LOVE them still ...my friends just dont understand.

  • Let your life proceed by its own design......fare thee well.

  • While your at it don't forget Here Comes Sunshine, China Cat, Scarlet Begonias, and St. Stephen.

  • Don't go and forget about PLAYING IN THE BAND and TENNESSEE JED and FRANKLIN'S TOWER and BERTHA and TRUCKIN", shit I don't think there is a best DEAD song.

  • it is impossible to pick a best dead song. way too much variety. they have a song for every conceivable mood.

  • @allman21

I agree. My favorite song at one show might not be my favorite at another show. That's why I love them. They had the ability to make a song take on different lives from show to show.

  • Fuckin' A

  • @sprocketheadchay might as well include ripple, attics of my life, brokedown palace, and black peter.

  • my fav Grateful Dead song! thanks

  • prime..................

  • Bobby looks the boy genius from CRIMINAL MINDS

  • Ramble on Rose is arguably the best Dead song. I would put Shakedown Street just a little higher but Ramble on Rose is a great one.

  • @belitnakoff yes.

  • @yogabbagabba1210 I love GD's version of Fire on the Mountain. I like it better than Marshal Tucker band version.

  • omg his strat is so nice

  • Bullpen? You mean Pig Pen?

  • YES!

  • Oh do I love Jerry playing a strat..heaven

  • it isnt a strat

  • yes it is. The guitar was named "Alligator" and was given to him by Graham Nash. He played it through most of '72. He used this instrument while "Wolf" was being repaired. You can tell it's a Fender by looking at the headstock. Wolf's is much different.... 3 tuning keys on the top and 3 on the bottom.

  • it just too bad.....(~);)

  • Love seeing Gerry playing the strat. He was playing that one when I saw him in Baltimore in 72 :)

  • Gerry was great, but so was Ron Weir, Bill Lesh, Nicky Hart, and Will on drums. not to mention Bullpen

  • hilarious

  • also good memories poundin at f8

  • so crunchy it melted my face off

  • better to get your face melted than stolen.

  • Comment removed

  • The best band of ANY generation.

  • the grass ain't greener

    the wine ain't sweeter

    either side of the hill

  • Goodbye mama and papa!!

  • people who say this song and this kind of music suck are ignorante and suck... they need a better taste in music... I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!!!!

  • remember...this was 35+ years ago....no one does this kind of R&R today...no one, The best damn band of our generation.

  • Give us this day, our Daily Dead

  • man this one and the jack straw from this show...I lose all brain control every time...SETTLE DOWN EEAASY!

  • Did he say "sitting flush with a royal plush?"

  • "sittin' plush with a royal flush."

it's a poker (or some card game) reference

  • oh yah - i know the lyrics......it just sounded that listening.....hey it was recorded a long time ago...

  • I wonder who Crazzy Otto is and what made him crazy.

  • negman - there is a book ( i wish i could remember the name) but it goes into a ton of GD lyrics and what they refer to or where they originated from like "crazy otto". Go to your big book store and you'll find it in the music section.

  • google this The Annotated Grateful Dead Lyrics

  • shake dem bonesssssss

  • this reminds me of my college days. Ramble on Rose on my headphones, walking to class through the woods north of campus, and puffin a big doob before morning physics.

  • Sounds Great :D Nice visual

  • @Yinzerdude still true to this day, the music never stops...

  • @Yinzerdude Just think... if you hadn't have smoked all that week during college, we might've colonized Mars by now!!! ;-)

  • @AncientDrummer Whoa... I meant WEED... I'm so wasted!

  • @Yinzerdude Yeah dude...drugs are a life style!

    Lame

  • @JimmyPage97 I never said they were douche bag. I mentioned a memory I had in college. Go fuck yourself you fuckin moron. Don't bother me again, or put words in my mouth again you stupid fuck.

  • @JimmyPage97 also, I got an A in that physics class and finished college with a engineering degree. Yeah, I puffed pot along the way and listend to the Dead, but it wasn't my life style. I hate little douche nozzles like you that try to simply classify somebody through a few sentences on the internet. Again, GO FUCK YOURSELF.

  • @Yinzerdude Your "A" in physics or your degree is a complete stray from the topic here.

I never classified, generalized, or categorized you in any way share or form. It was you who generalized me based on my comment. And if my comments bothered you, you gotta learn to deal with that shit. So much hostility. I don't have any clue what a "douche nozzle" is. And as far as I'm concerned if you listened to the deads music...you missed something.

  • @JimmyPage97 You don't know what a douche nozzle is? God, dude, you are one dumb fuck. You can tell your intelligence level. It isn't too high. Again, GO FUCK YOURSELF you stupid fuck.

  • @Yinzerdude how could u hate when listening to such a song man? theres no need for tht

  • @Yinzerdude @Yinzerdude how could u hate when listening to such a song man? theres no need for tht and thts also goes for all you other people, if u have a problem with somthing think it if u wana but dnt spred the hate

  • @Yinzerdude Thanks for sharing your grades and all though. congratulations

  • @JimmyPage97 Shut the fuck up and leave me alone. You are the useless POS that has to come in and put words in my mouth that I am some person that think drugs are a lifestyle. I hate when little shits like yourself come put words in other's mouths. While the whole time I am doing more for society than you ever will be. I work hard everyday, don't need to notice my blackberry going off with emails from stupid little 21 year olds and their stupid comments. Again, GO FUCK YOURSELF.

  • @Yinzerdude Fine hard working citizen: I'm sorry for my interrupting comments. I didn't mean to inhibit your great law abiding deeds. Your hard work and what you have done for society has clearly been hastily overlooked. I, and all us stupid 21 year olds, also did not mean to bind down your very nice BlackBerry (which clearly helps identify your extreme success in life) with comments.

But with all that being said, if you got a problem with my comments...that's really not my problem :/

  • @Yinzerdude hahahaha now thats what i'm talking about man! that sounds like just about every school day for me, except with various grateful dead songs playin!

  • LOVE IT! I used to sing it to my son when he was young, he's in college now,

  • Just saw Bob Weir rock this tune with Ratdog!

  • Lol @ Phils harmonies.

  • What are you? Some ass that has to come in and insult people on music you don't get? I can't stand morons like you that have to come in and insult the Dead or people that like them. I know, I know, only loser druggies are deadheads in your stupid, insular view right? I got a masters in engineering? Does that make me a cretin, you fuckin retard?

  • What do you do ? Drive the kiddie train at the carnival?

  • You are totally right. The dead fans encompass engineers like yourself and degenerates like myself. The whole spectrum; they were quite simply the best.

  • FUCK YOU... theres no need for your shitty opinion on the greatest band ever to play

  • i agree it is underrated

  • its so chill. I love it

  • One of their more underrated tunes.

  • GROOVY i love it!

  • wooohoooo !!!! this is the best

  • your are so correct :D

  • this was on my birthday!!!-13 years before i was born but its still cool-i f'n looove this tune

  • Aha!

You see, this was on my birthday aswell but 16 years earlier. So i guess your a few years older than me :)

    Though, amazing tunes indeed.

  • Is this the one that ended up on Europe 72? sounds like it

  • No. Not the same one version.
