If I brought in one of the best modern tenor players to be a guest artist with a big band I'd let them solo for more than 1 minute on Giant Steps. At least the guy who walks in front of the camera at 3:21 is wearing a badass les eurockeennes shirt.
definitely one of my favourite videos on u-tube..Respect to all of you guys..that alto solo just makes feel exactely how would Coltrane sound on alto sax.. Thanks for posting this..life has more sense now :-D
yea michael brecker just killed thge other players in the sound range, well just about everything, but still all three were really really really good.
it takes some cahones to stand on the same stage with Michael Brecker and go toe-to-toe on Giant Steps. Way to go SBCC Jazz Band unknown tenor and alto player!
alto has killer tone

Michael probably transcribed coltranes solo like 20 times when he was young. His solo has sooo much reminescence of Coltranes original recording.

the reason why the other two soloists went first is cuz if michael went first then no one would want to solo :)

what's the name of this drummer? He's got some major skills.
TwerpoNG 3 years ago
The drummer in this video is Rusty Cummings - I think he was 18 or 19 at the time. Now he plays with a band called Tripdavon, and a few others.
