man i wish i could still operate forestry equipment like i used to. too bad my dad told me to go to college and get a job somewhere else. the forestry industry is in a downfall .
shut the fuck up hippy! single grip harvesters rock, and youd never have enough brains to operate one, fuck off back to smoking drugs and living on the doll? whil taxpayer support you!
Here we go , forestry is like farming , trees like scotts pine , cedar , douglas fur and others were planted in the war for paper and pine furniture etc, about now most of them have come to a 50 year end of life . so they have to be harvested , its a common practice all over the world , i can understand if it was oak - quercus robur , then yes its devistating .
What's the difference ? Before the machines came and destroyed the original forest there was a diversity of animals, trees and plants that took thousands of years to evolve and exist. The tree farm comes along destroys all that (within weeks!!) and creates one vast area of one or two trees with a few creatures hanging onto the margins, AND then before the forest can re-establish itself it's all cut down again with these monstrous machines.
@IcarusInflight if u are so freaking ignorant to not realize that its a tree farm u have some issues man, im not a fucking logger or a liberal & i can tell u that logging is not what it used to be and bringing up age old problems that were solved back when u were a kid doesn't do anything but make u look like an fool.
@rubbercoatedsteel don't feel like a fool at all nor have issues like passive aggression in putting forward an agrument. Trees are basic to the ecology of our planet and the machines are slowly taking them away :-)
Very old machine this one. it has the early style front delimb knifes. Brings back memorys when i worked for the waratah company here in NZ doing field service. This head was made next door in the factory.
No sorry but this machine is almost new or was when i drove it 12 months or so ago, it is on a hitachi zx450. I spec'd those knivies for the machine as we dont cut to length so didn't need the topping saw, we just long stem and for the large wood we were in (I fell some that were 9 ton each) these knives work the best. You may not have picked it up but check out the way the hoses lay.. Thats the 1st continuous rotation set up on the waratah.
LOL yeah on a closer look i see that 360deg. I used to work on bigwood 626-001 and it had knives pretty much exactly the same, hence at a not so close look i thought it was as old as the hills!
sweet, Yeah i drove number 006 for about 24,000 hours for Willie Tukaki which had those knives so got them on the on the new head cos they suited our operation better, I done around 6000 on that new one before i finished.
look at johnny botany (ephesus) yakkn about reforestation and 30yrs. The amazon rainforest is going to be like an African Savanna inside of the next 50yrs. Maybe your a specialist on world timber supply- remind yourself of your cute notion on what you DONT KNOW the next time your wiping your *ss, try wiping it with plastic after you run out...*ucking monkey. Oh yea-just so your aware- I operate these Waratah Harvester/Processors.

I think it's a Hitachi Zaxis 370. This is 30 year old Radiata pine, at Matakana in new Zealand.

Its on a Hitachi ZX450 and it was in Kaiangaroa in the central north island.
I filmed this machine when i operated it.
I done just short of 30,000 hrs on a harvester for this crew. Crew does around 1500 tons a day

Well that has got to be way cooler than doing it by hand.

Who cares? They PLANT trees so that they can cut them down. There's just as much forest today as there was 30 years ago
