@lukepetti I think the kid was not an archist.....with or without the shoes! He was just an angry kid looking for an excuse to exert some aggression! There was no message conveyed by many of the "Kids" at the WTO Protest. That is why it just reminded me of a frat party that got out of hand. Not much different than some of the college riots you see occur every now and then!
There were many people at the WTO protest who understood the issue and were trying to make a statement. Then it turned into a party/riot. Reminded me of frat kids acting out. I worked at a homeless shelter and protesters wouldn't let our residents into the facility. The people who acted up just make a joke of the event and their message was lost. My favorate image of WTO/Seattle was a "Anarchist" wearing NIke shoes jumping on a burning dumpster. Dumb... very dumb. Message lost!
@fibbersfan man, you surely dont know a thing about politics and living in the world of capitalism. If somebody is wearing nike shoes and stands up as an anarchist, thats not even wrong. Do you think that if he took out those shoes the ENTIRE WORLD WOULD BE ANARCHIST? grow up, seriously.

20% of the worlds richest people use 86% of this worlds resources, the other 80% use 14%. I doubt any of you are apart of this 20% so everyone of you should be upset and should realize the harm thats been caused from the W.T.O.
Even if we march the streets every day it won't matter for the "Big Heads" of every country.
People with knowledge of the whole political system and with the belief of a better world should be more influential politically maybe to access such vital and radical matters.
I agree with peaceful marching in the streets but the next day everything will be the same,i' m against violence though, it never brings the right results.
I can understand how you can feel that way, but people told MLK Jr that nothing he did would change anything, people told Gandhi the same thing. Throughout history people have been told that the power of the people is just a fallacy that it will never change anything, this is a lie. founding fathers admitted that the power of the government is directly connected to the willingness of the governed and that if that government becomes corrupt, the people have the right to oppose it
People walk on their knees in third world countries just because the industrial world use their upper hand for the benefit of already wealthy countries.
I fully agree.... I am so happy to see that someone else is saying that... what the hell makes people think they can beat something like this peacfully....

youre stupid. No really you are. Capitalism is exactly what we are. I know a number of business onwers that started their own business and because they were better and offered a better product they shut down other weaker businesses. that my friend is capitalism. That is what America is. And if you dont like it find somewhere else to live.
No it really isn't. When government gets involved in the economy it's called socialism. That's what out government did with Bear Sterns, Fannie Mae, and Freddie Mac. The government placing a limit on the amount of sugar that can be imported is not capitalism. You're stupid.
"No it really isn't. When government gets involved in the economy it's called socialism"
No, it isn't. Socialism does not necessitate government and it is just an idea about producing things to meet human need instead of for profit. America *is* capitalist; the state and the WTO are capitalist precisely because they aid a system that operates for profit. Get it?
Profit = capitalism? Profit is good. Thus capitalism is good, not this corporate socialist state we live in where the Wall St. fat cats have bought off our politicians (Obama received $3M in campaign donations from commercial banks). Let's light a fire under their fat pig asses and open up the market and bring in more competition.
Keep talking your libertarian, Ayn Rand toe-sucking bullshit. But every day we come closer to abolishing this shit system. Your class will no longer dominate mine.

Lets not forget the British Empire (arguable the inheritors of Rome and the predecessors of American economical imperialism) was brought to it's knees by the civil and non violent disobedience of Mahatma Gandhi. Revered "Farther" of the largest (by populous) democracy in the world. Founded on peace not power.
The Police, unfortunately, are often the aggressors because they are ill informed. Why do protesters need to be policed at all? Also, when people are born into debt and a life of mediocrity whilst simultaneously beaten over the head by the "Hypodermic model" of mass media telling them to buy, buy, buy in order to feel fulfilled; they tend to get a little frustrated especially when confronted with police in full riot gear.
I do believe that the physical picture of riot police, decked head to toe in fully protective gear, does demnstrate a powrfl reminder toward a way of opression of personal opinion similiar to that of a communistic country, but those that ARE born into lives of debt should see these images of black guarded police and find seperate means of passing around them. The physical game of beating these huge numbers of rocksteady behemoths is astoundingly one-sided,but the government side is less withstanding

People like JFK, Martin Luther King & Gandhi and why is it that these people are remembered, respected and loved? Because they connected with people on a compassionate and true level. As long as there are rich people who lack moral capacity and compassion will the poor hate the rich and fight the system.
The leaders you mention, I hasten to add, were all shot. Why is it our inspirers are always shot yet we allow the human demons in our societies to prosper and wreak havoc.
