christo930 has made a comment on Amiga 1200T - OS3.9:
I have 2 questions. First, what is the point of adding a 060 if the 603e contains an 040 emulator which is pretty good and probably is as fast as a an 040 at 50mhz.? Can you play youtube videos? Can you launch the old full screen games with the video card installed?
(Sorry, I removed your post by accident) - There is no emulator here. OS3.9 is running on the 68060. Other programs are utilising the PPC chip. :)
Old games can be run with no problem, but will not be output through the graphics card but the Amiga's custom chips, unless they are designed to do so.
The monitor in the video is also connected to the RGB port on the back of the Amiga for old AGA games, although I mostly use my other Amiga for those as they're not always system friendly.
As for youtube on this setup, I think it'd be pretty unusable. :)
@DispencahereBOINK The main manufacturers for home computers were: Commodore Apple Atari Radio Shack (Tandy) IBM Texas Instruments . Over time these manufacturers either quit or went bankrupt, and by 1995 there was nobody left except IBM PC clones and the Apples. Even Apple almost disappeared in 1998, due to being outsold by PCs 10-to-1, but they were able to turn themselves around .
I still have my Amiga 1200 with a Viper accelerator and 4 MB extra memory. The 850 MB hard disk was more than enough for the Amiga. Too bad those who took it over from Commodore allowed it to die. It had a lot of potential. One day I had to join the PC Brigade. Before the Amiga I had a Commodore 64.
When intel and microsoft had this great idea : selling more Mhz et more Mb and implement the idea : more Mhz is better, and more Mb is better too, the fate was sealed.
Im so proud of my 2.4Ghz pentium4, but im so in love with my 68000 at 8mhz.. :)
the amiga is still the only computer that made use of its harware capabilities 100%. its amazing what you can do even with a 68020 a1200 with 16mb fast ram. todays home pc suck. u get 500gb memory and 55225555 ghz procecors and windows still look so slow. especially at multitasking. macosx and linux a little bit better but still no amiga. imagine todays hardware with amiga operating system and arcitechture. amazing. too bad commodore never hired a good economics advisor....
they messed up by losing the original chip designs, to design their "nextgen" AGA they had to reverse engineer the original chipset .. hence AGA was a big dissapointment compared to rapidly evolving pc hardware of the time.
A500 was amiga's peak.
linux "scene" is the closest thing to the amiga today
Its sad that todays software is not able to take as much advantage of the available hardware as the good old amiga could. good music tase by the way :)
Wish I had one of these to play with, had to settle for a plain Blizzard 1260 50MHz. Lately I've become more interested in the bare bones though, getting the max out of the unexpanded machines.
The 68060 is such a nice chip :) I've just bought a Blizzard '030 IV to stick in the other A1200. I did miss that card! I swapped my old one for some SIMMs some years back...one of the most stupid things I've done ;)
It takes about 10 or so seconds for a warm boot now, a little longer for the first cold boot, because of Setpatch and patching the ppc.library for WarpUP.
It's a registration requester for "Warp Datatypes". Only botted the Amiga up a few weeks back for the first time in a year or more, I then bought a new PPC card from ebay. My old 040/PPC card was terrible and just did not work reliably. Must go about registering ;)

Nice setup dude!
I allmost have the same setup except i have the dreaded 040/25 Mhz on my Blizzard PPC, the 060 makes your amiga rock!

@EdgeOfPanic
It does indeed :) I also have another PPC card with the 040... it never did work with the BVision. This card made things very sweet!
Oh well.... saving up for an AmigaOne X1000 now ;)
stevieu83 2 years ago
Strange your 040 BPPC card never worked with the Bvision (ppc local bus broken ?)
But i'm also saving up for an AmigaOne X1000, one heck of a machine!

I'm curious how well this would handle a youtube video.
My 400 megahertz Mac plays the videos in slow-mo, and I wonder if a 68060 Amiga would do the same.
Probably.
harleykman 2 years ago
The current Amiga browsers don't have flash so they wouldn't play a Youtube video at all
