I'm in love with this song! It makes me think of one of my friends who died a year and a half ago, Hope his wandering soul has found it's place. He first introduced me to Kate Rusby's music and I thank him for it.
Kate Rusby is a very talented folk singer and a lot of the songs that she covers do deal with death, sorrow and heartbroken love, but I wouldn't say all of her songs are like that and when you see her live, she is very funny and puts a lot of wit and humour into her shows, particularly when explaining songs like drowned lovers.
i really dont know what isee in the text is a main person who dies and after his death he joins his friends in song. i TRY to view it from another point of view as a guidance in life, and he still lives but he found back home to where he grew up, if she wrote it like that the song would be about happyness, but if she did write it like it looks like she did (about death and after) then its a bit sad still :-/
@dinerouk Dude, this isn't the same song. Look up the lyrics to both... they're entirely different, don't even sound the same... Did you actually listen to either one?
i like her singing and her music, but is everything she write really only about death and sorrow and heartbroken love, by any chance does anyone have any vids where she sings about happyness?
Maybe the last song John Denver wrote before his death

I don't see it as being about death. It reminds me of the story of the prodigal son. Dunno if you've ever heard of it...

This song misses out a bit doesn't it? There's a second repeat of the chorus at the start.
