I got the prym knitting machine from mary maxim company on-line. It is the same excact machine except for the color. I am having trouble with the tension of the yarn. I am using red heart super saver yarn. Can you give me any advice? Your work bench is a great idea.
@libertylady64 I understand the Prym is the same machine. What kind of tension problem? I use Super Saver all the time with my Innovations. It takes minimal tension as it is a pretty heavy yarn. I usually just use 1 or 2 rungs on the tension device and no extra tension. I pull yarn from the source skein into a puddle so there is no extra tension on the yarn. Do NOT let the machine pull from the skein directly, it will create way too much tension ...most important.
@Yanna131094 Thanks for the kind words. This machine likes regular WW yarn. It will even knit Red Heart WW. I have found that what ever yarn you have that recommends US 7, 8, or 9 needles and is smooth will work well. All knitting machines hate nubby, uneven yarns. The exception is eyelash yarn. Eyelash yarns work well in knitting machines. If in doubt about a yarns suitability, just do a sample piece with at least 15-20 rows and see how it goes. I never force the gears. Never force it.
I got mine off eBay from seller Toolsamerica or maybe it was toolamerica. They are still selling it. Just do a search for workbench vise. Cost & shipping remain about the same! Some assembly required, but I did it easily & quickly. No affiliation!
Hi Barb what kind of bench is that ? Where did you find it ? I have been trying to find one for some time now. Love your videos I have learn a lot ..... Take care
i just got mine....they are hard to get to australia i can tell you ....i waited a year and a half! but it was worth it...i can't put it down and your videos have made using it a breeze! a few dropped stiches and a little oil as it was stiff...but thats it no issues al all, thanks heaps i hope we might see some new vids?!
A year and a half? Wow! Glad to hear my vids helped. NSI Innovations unit is no longer being sold in US-not sure why. The Prym is sold in UK and is just different color.
I use my Addi Express and King b/c they are so user friendly and have row counters! I use the crank knitters just for scarfs and some hats.
What other vids would you like? LynAndFamily has done a great video on 1x1 rib. MyCraft Room covered the basics well. Any Ideas?
i noticed you made a pointed panel.....and ive done the rib it works great....wht about cables? have you done that ? or shaping further....like turning a heel....or adding more shape for a hood? id like to make a hooded scarf in one peice...think it is possible?
Shaping involves short rowing (inc or dec a st on each row & putting needles in hold)which is impossible with the crank knitters as one can not put the needles in a "hold" position so they do not knit. Cables involve putting at least 2 sts on a holder and moving 2 sts over in their place. That puts a lot of strain on the needles (& tension on the yarn). I have had no luck doing either of these things on a crank knitr. I use a flatbed knitter or CSM for those. I wish we could do shaping!!
Hi! Nice job on the video and great set-up idea with the vise bench!
Just an FYI- The NSI Innovations is still available. Right now, Mary Maxim, Fingerhut, and Hobby Lobby have them... I just got mine through Hobby Lobby this week- only $42.99 w/free Priority Mail shipping!
Thanks for all your videos. I'll be watching them all to learn how to use my machine!!
Hi Barb-Good job on the video. The Co finally returned the machine and it works beautiful. The only problem they did not return the legs and the tension piece. Had to do a lot of calling but finally received the tension piece and they say the legs are on the way. They did repair it at no cost only mailing it to them.If you send the machine in do not send the legs and the tension piece and you should be well taken care of. thanks again for all of your help
Glad you are up & running! NSI may not have the best knitter, but at least they do try to help the consumer and the price is right. The Kingsize by Addi comes with 3 spare needles which is nice if you should happen to break one., knits smoother, more trouble free and handles WW yarns better, IMHO. Thanks for the update. So often we only hear bad news, not the good stuff.
I saw your video and decided to buy the Innovations Knitting Machine on the spot. It arrived yesterday. My daughter and I knitted up all the excess yarn in our box and now I need to buy more. We did have some slipped stitches that we will need to figure out how to fix so I'll pick up the latch tool next time I'm out. Please post more videos for us, the directions that came with the machine are nearly useless.
Those are called chucks and they came with the vice bench. They fit in any of the holes you see on the table surface to hold things in the vice. I got it off eBay from ToolAmerica. Just do a search for "vice work bench". Price is around $12.00, but shipping is almost as much. No affiliation. Some assembly required, but it was easy.
Thank you for the advice i will only try the 1 or 2 rungs on the tension bracket. Once again thank you.
