  • brilliant sang this years ago at primary not as them though!

  • One of my favourite carols currently on Youtube. I listen to it all year. Thank you so much for posting this.

  • Oh dear God, the most beautiful thing I have seen and heard on youtube. Thank you :)

  • Okay, now you've done it, tears are streaming down my face.

  • Fascinating music and these voices are amazing. Where can I find a CD with this heartwarming music?

  • @Hutzelschweiz5 : tinyurlDotCom/3xxz7g7

  • @cantorisdecani thanks a lot. I'm looking forward to hearing more of this amazing choir

  • @Hutzelschweiz5 : And if you want to hear more of the soloist:

tinyurlDotCom/33n3nhb The CD is no longer produced but you can buy MP3s.

Also, type "wells glorious renaissance" in Spotify to preview another nice album from this choir.

  • @Hutzelschweiz5 Hayley Westenra also does a version of this song - lower pitch and faster - it has a a much 'smaller' feel than this arrangement

  • Fascinating voices. Absolutely amazing to listen. Where can I buy a CD with this coir?

  • I have toured England's cathedral towns two different years and always attend Evensong. I consider myself lucky to have heard the girls sing at both Wells and Lincoln. I was blown away by the artistry and singing skill of both choirs. At Lincoln they sang a hymn by Eric Wittacre that was the most beautiful piece I ever heard, the title was (something like this) "I Thank The God for this Wonderful Day." They should record it.

  • Michael Head , who composed this ,was my dear friend and piano teacher.

  • excellently trained voice in the soloist. beautiful recording.

  • Can this recording be found on DVD or CD in the US or UK!!?? Absolutely amazing.....

  • i have to sing this for xmas on the 27th of dec.

    :(

  • @disneyfreak191 Have to?

  • Not a download. I taped it on VHS at the time and much later converted this piece with a Hauppauge TV card and VirtualDub. Is definitely Robert though.

  • In all the discussion I can't belive that I forgot to say that this song is so beautiful; the Wells boys really sound like "a star of gold!"

  • I first heard this one nearly forty years ago at a carol service in Colchester and I've never grown tired of it. I play it all the year round. Having a tiny brand-new grand-daughter gives the words an added poignancy.

  • Ha! I knew I was on YouTube somewhere! I'm the kid who gets centre-shot at about 1:34. This was some time ago - I turned 21 yesterday...

  • Cool. how old were you then? You all sound terrific.

  • I must have been 11 or 12 then. Fun times!

  • Superbe interprétation de ce très beau cantique du temps de l'Avent . Merci de le partager avec nous !

  • I understand that loads of people say boys are better singers, but I disagree, there are hundreds more boys choirs than girl's, so few girls are taught to sing this kind of music. I'm lucky enough to be in a very good girl's choir and we are one of the best in Dublin, plus I'm 16 and can still hit the high notes in this song!

  • :) same...though I'm 15

    LucyXX

  • CaptainBetsy:I love to sing, I'm singing in a church choir and I'm a 29 year old woman from Norway. Of course I still can hit the high notes in this song quite easy, but that doesn't mean that I have the voice of a young boy.

Boys' voices are really special, so clear and pure, and that is a thing boys can really be proud of. Listen to the songs of St. Paul's Cathedral Choir here on youtube; like Deo Gratias and Balulalow. There you can hear that special sound of the boy's voice! Happy singing!

  • I'm a girl chorister too, and I agree that girls just don't get the training as much! by any chance do you sing at Christ Church Cathedral? When my choir sang there years ago I picked up a fantastic CD of the girl's choir- I didn't want to get back on the plane, I wanted to stay in Dublin and join that choir! somehow that didn't work out :)

  • I'm singing this for the charol service...It's so lovely :)

    LucyXX

  • ned, rhys, jez, kieran..they're all there lookin cute!

  • Beautiful! Where did you hide this one CD? This is the first I've heard this one.

  • Eccellente

  • Hahaha! I had no idea this existed...I was a girl chorister when this was made, weird being able to name all the boys, the youngest is now nearly 17!! Crazyness...lovely singing though :)

  • How come boys' choirs sound so fantastically beautiful, while girls'choirs sound aggressive and lousy?

  • That's rather harsh and unfounded. Girls' choirs may have a significantly different sound but they're no more likely to be lousy and they're most definitely not aggressive!

They're a different musical instrument with their own sound.

  • @cantorisdecani : If what you are saying would be true, then girls choirs would be successful too in Japan and other countries, including England. But this does not happen. You can find that boys' choirs are much more successful than girls' choirs, including financially!

  • @48acar19 That has everything to do with tastes regarding one versus the other and nothing to do with girls' voices being "aggressive" or "lousy" as you claimed. If anything, girls tend to have a lighter airier sound than boys.

  • Still, I almost cannot see girls' choires...it must be a reason why the boys'voices are more beautiful.

  • Didn't some professional organization in the UK do a test of girls and boy trebles singing and find that they couldn't tell the difference? OTOH the boys have such a short window during which they can sing as trebles.

  • our choir director, master marchand always said that they was a big difference beetwin girls and boys voices (and he is a specialist from the paris music academy) its why there is so much non mists boys choirs

  • I was one of the first girl choristers at Wells and we were fab (I'm 26 now) - I'm very proud of my time at Wells and, although we were very different to the boys, we sounded great. And, after hearing the latest girl choristers, they sound absolutely stunning. Fabulous memories.

  • @48acar19 Agree, I always thought this to be true; at least to me. Notice that it is the same for female versus male choir.

  • Too beautiful for words. There is no sound on earth to match organ + trebles.

  • No truer words have been spoken. No other singing can induce tears like this genre.

  • my goodness I look like an idiot in this! gr8 to find it again though i didn't know that there were any records of this online...rob was fantastic.

  • This is amazing! I was in the girls' choir with all you guys and you're all so tiny in this!! Very beautiful recording when was this made?

  • This recordin was funny to do! cus we were all miming inj the video and the little boy who yawned is timohy kingston and this was in my first yr, while ago cus now were al leaving or have left the skl.

  • I Take Things Like This For Granted.

Because I Hear It So Much.

    (I Go To Wcs)

But My God They're Really Good!

    xoxoxox

  • The voices of angels...

  • I was there when the sound for this was recorded. Robert Karlsson had a habit of delivering jaw-dropping performances from nowhere. This was certainly one of them.

It was a while ago. Where are you now, Rob?

  • Are you singing? How old are you? When was this, each year?

  • Hey, Rob is currently at The University of Surrey.

  • Beautiful. I love this song! xxxx

  • omg beautiful

  • Breath Taking

  • He has an excellent voice

  • He sings solo on the Lammas Records CD "Chichester Psalms" in Britten's "Rejoice in the Lamb".

  • Heavenly, just heavenly. Thank you for posting.

  • Indeed. Thank you so much!
