  • If the boot was on the other foot Sutter would have made the hit- just one of those things. tbh any one would have.

  • @pjmcgoey @hockey6467 and anyone else who thinks this is interference. Check 1:00 - 1:04 and you can clearly see Sutter touch the puck. Once that happens, the player is fair game.

  • Yeah okay everyone is like not a hit to the head but what about the crazy interference

  • That carried a lot of Weight.

  • The hit was not high. Sutter got low by reaching for the puck. Clean hit.

  • hahahahahaha

  • Not Clean: TEXT BOOK INTERFERENCE

  • @hockey6467 clean hit. he touched the puck when he lowered his body which caused him to be leveled in the head.

  • Adjusting your jaw bone.

  • блин = а это тоже опасный спорт?...

  • That's a Scott Stevens-esque hit, although I don't think Weight saw Sutter skating down the left wing. You have to skate with your head UP!

The announcer must remember what Stevens did to Shane Willis in 2001.

  • sutter is a big fat baby

  • it's funny, the announcer says "no one feels worse than that man" (they are showing doug weight) and you can read doug's lips he says to another guy "ehhh, what're ya gonna do?) haha, at 1:27 - 1:40

  • Even Sutters father said it was a ok hit.

  • there are people saying that sutters hit on cherepanov was cleaner than this, you guys are seriously the most retarded idiots to disgrace earth

  • That was a solid hit...to bad Sutter got so seriously hurt...

  • come the fuck on he went down doug couldn't have gotten more down. seriously

  • yeah was reaching

  • dougs a cool guy he ttly didnt mean that any1 who new anything about him would no that.i ttly dont blame him and im a massive canes fan so stop sayin shit about doug.hes a solid player and one of the nicest guys ull evr meet

  • 100% clean hit, keep your head up, Sutter

  • So true.

Clean hit, his own fault he's skating low.

  • u got knocked the fuck out...BIATCH

  • welcome to the nhl sutter. keep your goddamn head up next time. clean hit.

  • it the same what sutter have done with alexei cherepanov

now he know what is that pain on his skin

  • but that's not fair, cherepanov took down sutter for no reason which is why sutter when to hit him, it was a clean hit on alexei and this hit has to be way worse than what sutter did

  • cherepanov took him undeliberate down, and sutter hit him advised and thats not sportsmanlike

  • Clean hit, how was he supposed to know that Sutter would move down his head.

  • TRip had it right and he corrected the homer idiot. As clean as a hit as you can have. He got hurt because he was leaning down and had his head down period.

  • Sutter like hit other players? Well, now he know what is that pain on his skin. Great! Im very glad, becaurse he hits exactly like that Alexey Cherepanov. But russian was much stronger that Sutter himself and we see it now.

    PS RIP Alexey

  • clean hit no doubt...sutter had his head down, plus thats the game of hockey u always risk a big hit like that every time you touch the puck

  • Weight is buster... he is trying this on young player..i mean, that he donť hit nobody older than 24 years.

  • He was trying to poke it past him for what would have been a decent play, but he poked too late... or just... shouldn't have at all. Everyone is correct, keep you're head up ESPECIALLY in the neutral z

  • perfectly clean. i look to make those hits all the time. he needs to learn not to reach like that in the neutral zone. btw hes a sutter

  • You gotta know that weight has the defensive position there. You just can't run into a brick wall and expect to go right through it!

  • Gotta keep your head up and have god "ice vision"

  • clean but dirty

  • Sutter really put himself in a bad position. It looks like he was trying to do an outside-in on Weight, and just misjudged how fast Weight was coming in on him. Clean hit in my book, Sutter basically made Weight hit him like that.

  • This is very unfortunate for Sutter and even for Weight, who is not a dirty player. As far as policing hits to the head, this is a good example of how broad the "gray area" can be.

As long as we live in a universe where random events are possible, then these situations are unavoidable. Every NHL player understands the risk.

  • I hate to see someone get hit like this, especially from my team, but ANY Carolina fan should know that Weight is a "classy" guy and never had the intention of this happening. Sutter, once he learns to keep his head up, will be an awesome player in the NHL and Weight did the right thing. It was a good, clean hit but Sutter - as said many, many time before - just needed to have his head up.

  • Anyone notice he's sees Doug coming and actually tries to duck and get lower to the ice? 1st rule in hockey "keep your head up" maybe if he had it would have been shoulder to shoulder.

  • I remember getting my first concussion in hockey, I had the same mistake of lowering my head to get that extra bit of speed, not worth it, need to stay alert.

  • anyone who knows anything about hockey, and Doug Weight knows that he did NOT go for the kids head, he is not that kinda player, thats just rediculous, thats a solid clean hit.....and im a die hard ranger fan defending an islander so yeh

  • Nice Hit

  • Weight would have only gotten Sutter in the chest if Sutter hadn't of made a huge mistake at the last second. Pause the video at 1:08 and watch it from there slowly. Weight did not go for his head. Sutter bent over and Weight had already committed to the hit and had less than a second to adjust. It would have all been fine if Sutter hadn't of put himself in a vulnerable position. But maybe someone who doesn't like it can explain to me just what the hell Sutter was thinking?

  • I never said that weight shouldnt have ran hi9m over but all that weight went for was the head he easily could have went for the body and still made a huge hit

  • He didn't "go" for the head, dude. WHat video are you watching? Look where the guys's head was... way bent over, down by the shoulders. What is Weight supposed to do in order to go after the body... slide????

  • hockeygrinder3, I have a major news flash for you. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP. And I don't have to tell you this, the players will. This is a calculated risk of a physical sport, and Weight was in every right to defend his blue line. Please don't preface any more sentences with your hockey prowess.

  • Exactly. Welcome to the NHL. Head up, stick on the ice.

  • Keep your head up kid, it's the NHL.

Not a cheap hit and nothing illegal.

people need to know what sport this is and stop crying about it.

david Krejci got his clock cleaned last year in Buffalo by mair. it was a clean hit and krejci plays for my Bruins.

it's hockey ... the NHL. KEEP YOUR HEAD UP.

  • hockeygrinder you're right man but on the other hand the next time suter comes screamin up the side like that he'll be watchin

  • first one maybe a little out of line but pisses me off when people that know nothing about hockey talk shit

  • if any of you actually play hockey you would realize that hitting a guy like that is a gutless selfish thing to do. The kid is 19 and for anyone who says this is not a head shot you have no idea what your talking about. I play junior hockey and you dont hit guys like that he could have easily takin the body and not the head disapointing to here people be this disrespectful obvious there is no hockey players from canada here or you would realize that this type of stuff is gutless.

  • Well respectfully you're wrong. I've played my whole life (I'm 40 now) and this kid didn't keep his head up. I played semi-professionally but still I've been hit hard and have hit hard.

What is Weight supposed to do let him skate by to have a scoring chance?

You give the hit when it is there, it's the NHL. If one doesn't like it they can go play tennis.

  • BOOOOOM! Nice hit. I was at that game, he was down quite a long time

  • Good clean Hit, You just cant put your head down like that.

  • you my friend are an absolute idiot... that is a blow to the head, exactly what the nhl is trying to cut down on. Wieght may not have tried to hit him like that, but that doesn't mean it's not a high hit

  • all of the nhl's big hits are caused by guys putting their heads down or if they dont see it coming. Unfortunately, both happened there to Brandon Sutter. Just go look up "Dion Phanuef". If thats a hit worth a suspension, then Dion would have been kicked out of the league by now. What the NHL is trying to cut down on is guys like Hollweg hitting from behind and using their sticks as weapons (Chris Simon anyone?)

  • no, you can not cut down on stuff like this. in the nfl it is smart that people can not lead with their helmets...however, this is not a rule of that nature. the person doing the hitting did nothing wrong..(the nfl rule keeps the hitter from doing something dumb)here the hitee was the one that did something wrong...

  • he put his head down.if you make that rule then we can just start teaching kids to skate staring down because they wont get hit. the nfl does not say the guy with the ball has to be a certain way to hit him and we should not either. the hitee is responsible to protect himself with the belief that the hitter is within the rules..which weight was...clean hit...and yes for all those that will say this is not the nfl...very observant, its just factual support for an argument

  • That is absolutely not a headshot. Sutter's head did get hit but it was his own fault. It was absolutely not a high hit. Weight is not a huge guy (Sutter is much taller), he didn't jump or elbow. He went into that hit like most players would have gone into any other check. Shoulder first. It is part of the sport and a good clean hit. If Sutter had obeyed the first rule of hockey (KEEP YOUR HEAD UP) he would have been fine. THis is a physical sport and collisions happen.

  • you are stupid arrogant prick that knows fuck all about hockey pull your head out of your ass you fuckin cocksucker

  • wow.....that's a pretty reasonable reaction........... do you have tourettes?

  • you my friend are the idiot. If you are going to extend yourself like that reaching for the puck you had better have your head on a swivel. Sutter put himself in the wrong position at the wrong time and paid the price for it.

  • holy shit!

  • Clean hit

like spkstudios says : Keep ur Head Up

  • FUCKING AMAZING!

  • Lesson number 1

Dont look at the puck, or you will end up on your ass.

  • Clean, not to mention that you can see that Weight feels bad. Also, this can go in the books as Sutter's welcome to the NHL moment, every time you see a veteran in the same position as Sutter was, they'll look to their right before trying to reel in the puck. Something that once he learns it, he'll be a great NHLer.

  • clean hit

    KEEP UR HEAD UP

  • If it's a Flyer who makes that hit, its a 100 game suspension.... its all crap.

  • same with if it was a duck player

  • damn he got destroyed, its a good clean hit, its just 1 of those unfortunate things that happen, a player can not easy-up or slow down on a dime especially in a situation like that. Doug weight is not a dirty player, he is a complete class act. u can not come up ice with ur head down or u will get hit.

  • scott stevens is the biggest pussy ever. sneaking around, hitting engaged players AND NEVER EVER EVER CARRYING THE PUCK HIMSELF. POOZLE!!! this kid did it to himself. i mean it. what was weight gonna do? pat him on the butt on the way by? he held up as much as he could. anyone else would have killed the fucker. this ain't pond hockey where you can spend an afternoon trying to toe-drag th puck between your skates. this is real. sick tho.

  • Good to see the Islanders trainer out helping too.

  • holy shit. thats a clean hit but holyshit. thats a nasty one eh? more like a collision.

  • Clean hit, just one of those things that happen. Like...how expects to be hit by a player like Doug Weight?

  • SQUEAKY clean.

  • Sutter didn't see it coming at all. Just look at his reaction just after he got it; he had no idea.

Weight didn't mean to do that. I think he just meant to ride him off the puck or cut him off and Sutter chased after the puck directly, where Weight didn't think the puck exactly ended up. More like a collision than hit.

  • WOW!!!

    A Scott Stevens' hit......

    BANGO........

  • clean hit, just happened he lowered his head right as weight was already 100% committed to the hit...i dont think weight was trying to hurt him at all.

  • clean hard hit, unfortunate that it had to end up like that

  • Wow you hate to see something like this happen. That was one of the roughest looking hits I've seen in a long time. Hope Sutter will be ok. Weight looked severely depressed.

  • This is almost a carbon copy of the Steve Moore hit on Markus Naslund. Weight was trying to hit Sutter, but Sutter was coming through the neutral zone with his head down, reaching for the puck. Because he was reaching, his head was below shoulder-level, and therefore susceptable to the contact.

Exactly like Naslund - have a look at that video.

  • Clean Hit

  • very clean hit, wonder if this kid's related to any of the Sutter brothers?

  • he's Brett's son

  • It was a clean hit, Sutter just put his head down at the wrong time. Just gotta keep your head up. At least Sutter was able to skate of the ice.

  • Clean hit just like brian campbell's hit on RJ umberger, his head was down

  • very ala-Eric Lindros there kid....keep your head up and welcome to the NHL

  • Clean hit.dont try and administrate checking, thats whats ruining football right now

  • I love how the announcers have it all wrong. Yea the NHL is trying to crack down on hits to the head. However they mean illegal hits to the head (use of the stick, flying elbows and so on). As you said greenbaks, welcome to the NHL rookie.

  • It's a clean hit. Skate with your head up. Welcome to the NHL, rookie! Go Wings!

  • had his head down with speed like that through the neutral zone.... he deserved to get popped.

  • clean hit. hope the kid's ok.

  • thats a clean hit sutter had his head down

  • clean hit

  • how could you even wish a hit like this on someone! thats ridiculous.

  • Thats karma for his hit on Cherepanov(RIP)..

  • yea, except there was no slew foot involved here. cherpanov slew footed the hell out of sutter.
