I really don't understand some of the comments being posted here. Just because this demo doesnt sound like a modern hit dance track DOESN'T mean to say it can't be used in that capacity. Are we being willfully dense?
@DIGITALSCREAMS it can do anything a monosynth ought to . i agree with the people who think it's cheesy though.. i certainly wasnt trying to make a hit dance track , it's just a silly chain involving the mopho the drumtraks and a juno 60 . i myself am amazed more at the positive comments i got.. i do believe that since it's so obviously cheesy that willful density is very likely
@PHAEDRIDER I was wondering, since the Mopho Module doesn't have a USB conection like the Mopho Keyboard, how can I update its OS in case there is one ? Also can I store edited sounds on the module or do I neceseraly need to save them on the Editor on my Computer ?
Why do the people that make demos always make lame totaly dated unimaginative stuff? Do these people not listen to modern dance music to get a sense of what we want to hear demo'd? This sounds like someone in 1985 in a music shop.
The Mopho is capable of much more than this demo wouold possibly even hint at.
@morocroc you are right.. i don't listen to modern dance music, because i really dont like it. i bought this synth for much different stuff than this here, but this was simply a demo of it 15 minutes after getting out of the box, chained to a drum machine and a juno 60 .. i too am surprised that people actually " like this video" , this synth can do way more and has..
@nutrinoland hmm. i think you missed the point of this demo..i didnt buy this to make 80's music either. i bought it for things that wont be on here. this was a demo of how easy it was to set it up and use it straight out of the box. if you bought it to make the kind of music you like i'm sure it will , and then you can post a demo of it doing what you like . then there will be a demo of the stuff you mentioned
Too cool! I'm not much for mono synths, but if I can pick up a real analog unit (none of this VA crap) for under 600 bucks, who wouldn't leap at that?
The only thing better would be if Moog made a polyphonic synth, a successor to the Memorymoog without all the issues.
Well, if you have the money to buy 6 Voyager RME's you can poly chain them for a "MemoryMoog". But Moog is re-releasing the Taurus, so there is talk of re-releases of one off synths like the MemoryMoog and Liberation.
Can't you do that with the newer Little Phattys as well? But that would be almost ten grand if I went with the Voyagers and five grand with the LP's. I could grab two Prophet-08's or maybe a couple Virus keyboards (if I wanted to go VA).
didnt alesis already do that ? lol.. this thing does get up though , it was way less than 600 bucks too. it's un believeable how much cool shit is crammed into this weird lookin' yellow box..
no comparison what so ever.. this over the micron, or even the ion .. in one split instant of an instant.. no hesitation .. this is pure analog , the ion is not .. this is a better deal than anything i can think of.. in my opinion its on par (if not better) than the little phatty, but for 1/3 the price.. but to be fair if you are asking theres every possibility that the micron might suit your needs better...
Thanks. Are you familar with Chiptunes? I heard the Mopho was good for making Chiptunes. If so, then it would have another reason for being better than the Micron.
this is out of chiptunes league the mopho is a 2 oscillator analog mono synth, chiptunes involves hacking 8 bit synth circuits like a nintendo or a game boy . therre really wouldnt be a way to make "chiptunes" with this uhnles you had it hooked up to a heavily modified nes or something .. apples and oranges .
Very well, but based on what I heard in "Dave Smith Instruments Mopho Demo: It's Insane, This Guy's Bass" by Gearwire, you could get a chiptune-like sound.
oh, for absolutely sure it can make those sounds, if thats what you are asking ,but if that was what you were after in particullar this wouldnt be the way to go about it .. it will make "chiptune like sounds" but not 'chiptunes .. "
Of course. Real chiptunes aren't made this way. However, that is pretty impressive that the Mopho kind make chiptune-like sounds. I don't know too many synths that are capable of such a feat. Thanks again.
@MegaArmor it is actually good for making chiptunes, as long as you aren't looking for 8-bit.
It does really fast arpeggios (32nd note triplets, and 64th notes!) that sound like NES "chords". It is really fantastic for that type of sound, but it isn't "real" chiptunes. But who gives a fuck? It sounds fantastic.
@MegaArmor The ION. It may be digital but it is the best VA out there and does analogue very well. Multi mode filters emulating Roland, Oberheim etc. It is a programmers dream and can emulate a lot of very famous synths.
oh, theres more to come, as soon as i figure my way around the front panel.. it looks likie just a little yellow box, but it's just as powerful and just as analog as my arp odyssey..
oooh, this is funky, going on my favs list

I reckon the mopho is capable of making the same base line? I mean, also its arpeggiation?????

just cause its analog , does it need to sound so 80's ???
man...i have not seen one good mopho demo....psytrance or electro house or deep house ...any of the newer styles pleas....
i'm not interested in buying the mopho to make 80's music....

@nutrinoland I agree with you, almost all the demos on youtube sound unusable in most modern music.
Here's a better example where I used the mopho for a chunky bassline (1st track):

Enjoy.

yeah thanks for the demo. i'd like to hear more. i sold my pro-one a few months back. i hear that this may be the pro-one mk II.
hogberto 3 years ago
maybe.. it is to the prophet '08 as the pro one is to prophet 5
PHAEDRIDER 2 years ago
Actually if you open up a Mohpo the main board has "Pro-One II" printed on the main board.

Yeah, but they also gave it an obscene price tag :)
The more I hear this thing, the more I want it, and I'm not really a monosynth guy.

@MegaArmor get a sidstation for chip tunes. or build one. They are made with several c64 sound chips.
inthefade 2 years ago
How's the built quality of the Mopho? I heard the knobs are a bit of a problem. Is this true?
Cable3999 2 years ago
Not exactly true. If you look at the basic waveforms and stick to those that match those of sid chips you can come up with similar tones.
