The dual mufflers and dual cats and dual pipe lead to a LOT of weight, going single saves like 14lbs +, when you go single on a 3000GT VR4 from duals you lose like 35lbs in extra factory pipe. ZOMG the factory setup on these cars is enormous!

usually factory piping weighs more than aftermarket piping, especially in the almost 4,000lb VR4.

yeah same here. i think the car actually sounds better straight pipes... so a cutout to stock exhaust would be my choice.
