  • I thought jools holland could speak!

  • I feel bad for her cause we all know she's not going to win the Brit award and that adele is going to win it just because she sold million of copy's when it wasn't even that good of an album.

  • I knew that she would win it the minute I heard the first single. In January 2011.

  • I really like that PJ's persona off stage is very humble and soft-spoken while she is a force of nature on stage and able to express her various alter-egos and brash personalities into her work.

  • she deserves it, every her album is at least good!

  • Difference between Polly and Adelle is that Polly has always made her own music! as an art form! pure etc. as for Adelle, she has already sold out to the record companys!!!

  • @Fender1976uk I give Adelle credit for not copying any of her contemporaries, and I wouldn't say she was copying Amy Winehouse, but was influenced by her and the same music that inspired Amy. Wait and see how many up and comers will try to copy Adelle and Amy.

  • Adelle has enough money? WTF has that got to do with music??

  • @Fender1976uk What I meant was she's made enough money, so what's the big deal to her if she didn't win the Mercury prize.

  • She definitely deserved that award...'Let England Shake' is a masterpiece.

  • no one deserved this more. so dedicated to her craft. she's humble, well spoken, classy, a true artist and an inspiration. let england shake is a bonafide masterpiece.

  • 2 people don't like this video...they must be Adele and Anna Calvi xD

  • @MeliLeflay hilarious. Adelle has enough money, why should she care? Ana Calvi could very well win soon.

  • @TheTestingGrounds Polly is a goddess..the other two are beginners... they are good singers but not better than PJ who is a complete artist.

  • @MeliLeflay She is not a goddess, she is a person. I'll bet a million quid she'll be the first to tell you. I'm saying this as someone who has every album she's made. Ana Calvi might be a beginner, with only one album I suppose she is, but watch out......she has huge potential.

Btw, I think Let England Shake stands a good chance being the best album of this decade.

  • @TheTestingGrounds so... you gave me the reason =)

  • Alas! at last one demonstration of justice and integrity in a musical award.

  • what is the name of the album?

  • This album was clearly the deserving winner. PJ Harvey is an amazing artist.

But I think the Mercury's should stop handing out money to the winner unless they make this award for new artists only, who could use the prize money much more than established acts.

I can't think of many awards where the winner is given a cheque along with their trophy. Great album, though. Long may she run!

  • @matooli I agree. At least keep the money for a new/breakthrough category handle to new, emerging talent.

  • Anna Cavali is such a sourpuss. She shouldve known that PJ Harvey was gonna kick her ass. I love you PJ you are an amazing artist whose music will inspire us for generations, and most importantly you are an amazing woman. Thanks for helping me get through my hardest times in life.

  • OmG ! Adele got robbed!!

Just kidding. I have to admit I am rarely surprised by music these days, but this album stunned me. One of the most incredible things I've ever heard. Glad that the right people, not just the most popular ones, are being acknowledged.

  • The most deserving winner. Incredible album. The best album. The winner.

  • THE BEST!!!!

  • I'm so pleased for Polly to win this award, she deserves the recognition and more. She still looks as lovely as ever. Class.

  • Love how she has stayed loyal to her nose ....which indicates she has a hell of a lot more class than this crass observer ...PJ Harvey is simply a genius ...

  • PJ won over all the other n00bs

  • She put a lot into this one. As she said, she really wanted to make something that would last. I think this album, and her work generally, will last. She deserved this award.

  • I Remember hearing Words that maketh murder in January 2011. I said back then CAN´T WAIT FOR PJ TO WIN THE MERCURY. 8 months later she won it.

  • WHO WERE THE NOMINEES?

  • Anna Calvi's debut & her live clips:youtube have the kind of talent taste & electricity I havent heard since, honestly....young PJ Harvey (& there is a lot of PJ influence on Anna...contrast "Down by the Water" video with say 'Love wont be leaving", the Rob Ellis connection, both being brought up w/classical, European & CaptBeefheart influences!).I own PJ's "England" &..it never calls me to play it.. unlike Anna's compelling album. PJ deserve lifetime achievement award?=hell yes.Best disc=Annas

  • Adele Shmedell. I love PJ!!!

  • True Star! xx

  • I'm happy PJ won this award. She definitely deserved it. Although, I don't think Adele was angry that she didn't win that night. I think she was upset cos she couldn't perform due to her voice. The others seem to be in awe of PJ also. I really don't think anyone was upset they didn't win. Besides, being shortlisted for the award was an accomplishment itself. They're all very good.

  • I have this wild urge to make a coat hanger tiara with seagull feathers.

    God bless her.

  • Adele was angry >:(... xD

  • @therevolvercolombia I'm not so sure Adele was upset that night because she didn't win. I think she was upset due to the fact she couldn't perform due to her voice. The doctors did tell her she couldn't perform at all or else risk losing her voice.

  • Wohoo! I am so happy for her :)

  • All those sour-faced people in the audience, ignorant of being in the presence of a genius. She's got the lot: beauty, talent, genius and humility. Along with Bjork, she's on another plane to everyone else.

  • Katy B at 2:54

"I wonder what it would've been like to win....................."

Well done to PJ Harvey though, all aof the artists who were nominated would've deserved to win because they're all phenomenal....

    (But I do think Katy B should've won :-) )

  • I have loded PJ Harvey since the first time i saw her in a picture.I knew that she is extraordinary artist.

  • fantastic album.

  • yes she still has it doesnt she ,she is so humble and well spoken at times like this and in all interviews Ive seen well done PJ we know that you are a shy kind of artist but you are loved by millions xxx

  • Adele loses to PJ - I love Mercury Prize!

  • Lovely to see a music award going to someone who can write and create music by her own skill and talent, rather than some manufactured cheesy pap dance outfit who wouldn't know an A sharp from their ass.

  • most artists who win this thing are either established independents or rising talents who make culturally impacting and creative music.

and i'm sorry but nobody deserved this more than PJ. that album is the album of the ages. it will be the album the kids will turn toward decades down the road for inspiration. this is PJ's most accomplished and most ambitious work to date.

  • well i'm not attacking adele as i do like her album and i like that she's actually a decent pop star. between she and florence welch,it's nice to see non-tarty figures who aren't merely manufactured by image and money. but let's face it the mercury prize is different kind of animal. it isn't the brit awards or the american grammy's....where popularity and sales win the day.

  • Metronomy must win!

  • The album is a masterpiece. Thoroughly deserved.

  • wow, could Jools Holland have done any worse job of presenting that award?? just hopeless

  • @happysappy21 since jools almost singlehandedly gives performers like pj harvey exposure on his long running television music shows he is forgiven- he has helped launch the careers of many greats and supported music since i can remember

  • @salvadory... oh, since 2 weeks ago then

  • @salvadory It's thanks largely to Jools Holland that the late Amy Winehouse was discovered. He gave her her first tv break in 2003 as he did similarly to PJ Harvey on 1993, although she may have got tv exposure a year earlier at the Reading Festival

  • What's the name of the song they play when she's walking up to the stage?

  • @paprika82 'The Glorious Land', the third song off 'Let England Shake'. Great song! :)

  • @MrJeremydobson Indeed, love that one!

  • This is beyond brilliant. I still have some hopes for human kind!

  • TAKE THAT, ADELE!! ;D

  • @NandoPolvilhoVlog WTF is your problem? You're jealous of her success? Do you know that Adele probably DON'T GIVE A FCK about this award lol? She's the one who bring back REAL music into the mainstream and she's recognized for it! So i think it's more important than a Mercury Prize lol. Adele had her WHOLE life ahead of her, she will win one eventually.

  • @jodelleferlandfan1 paul weller did it 20 years ago- adele is very good but many other artists have "bought "real music" back to the mainstream well before adele! including PJ HArvey who is englands best female songwriter for the last 15 years without question

  • She no doubt is a legend.

  • So deserved, every song is a jewel.

  • i love her

  • She totally dererved it. Its last song 'The Colour of the Earth' made me cry the first time I listened to it and its the first time that has ever happened to me with a song. Very touching album. I'm glad and surprised it won.

  • Love Peej

  • She makes Britain ........GREAT..........:)

  • Comment removed

  • She makes me happy to breathe.

  • Great!! :))

  • its a bit like an Oscar choice between Day Lewis or Brad Pitt

  • She's awesome. She should win awards. Wait...

  • Cruel nature has won again.

  • well done and deserved.

  • @anodreams That may have been either her mum (but I'm not exactly sure) or one of the

co - managers Polly thanks in her acceptance speech. She also may be someone else entirely.

  • love Let England Shake, probably my fave album of 2011..so I'm glad she won...and she's a Lady :)

  • So glad Adele didn't win.

  • @battlep0t Why?

  • @jodelleferlandfan1 because if Adele won, PJ wouldn't have!

  • absolutely deserved, pj is a musical genius.

  • Who's she hugging?

  • This album deserved it completely. Well done, Polly!

  • Amazing artist, I could not think of a better album than Let England Shake to win this Prize. Well deserved Polly s2.

  • i knew it!!!!!

  • Love PJ. What a gracious person. Well done girl

  • Well Deserved. She's a Legend.

  • @Badpenny13 Yes! Polly Rocks! Still rocks after all these years. Love the comments by the anti-Polly commenters on youtube and newspaper reports online; such a good laugh to be had at their cost - some of the most witless, charmless, soulless people around with laughable comments and a terrible grasp of facts. I wouldn't be surprised if they believed the Iraq dodgy dossier...oh yeh, Polly Rocks!

  • @shelleyslions The PJ fans are equally soulless, attacking Adele for no reason, instead of just enjoying PJ's victory.

  • @jodelleferlandfan1 I didn't realise some Polly fans were attacking Adele. I was just disgusted with some nasty, personal attacks on Polly by commenters who weren't necessarily Adele fans. Seriously don't like Polly fans attacking Adele; don't worry, they won't get any support from me.

  • @shelleyslions Ok. I'm sorry about my previous comments on PJ, i listened to her album and it's really great! Thanks!

  • Go PJ Go!!!

  • Hooo si!
