nVidia is overpriced. Same goes for Intel really, although i'm glad i didn't buy any Phenom II SHIT. This setup's holding it's value much better. And i notice that Heaven seems to favour nVidia cards anyway (read: software optimization - makes something look faster in a specific application) and I certainly can't complain about my old pair of HD5870s.

Can't wait for AMD's HD7 series (or Southern Islands) to see how they do.

Yes AMD/ATI are releasing their 7000 series card at 28nm in late Q2 and Nvidia are due to (as usual a little time after) release their 28nm 600 series gpu in Q3. Nvidia is first pushing out the gtx550, gtx590 over the next month on the last of its 40nm fab anyhoo.

@Necry3d Actually there is no current direct comparison for the top Nvidia card and the top ATI card. The 5970 is a dual gpu card while the gtx 480 is single gpu, that alone makes them hugely different. You can't really compare the 480 to the other ATI cards either simply b/c it came out later so of course they can have the edge. Personally I don't see why people are obsessed with comparing them, it's your money, you buy what you like, no one elses opinion matters; end of debate.

@rajmando1 Xbox 360 uses a 500 MHz ATI Xenos, 512 MB DDR3 memory, and a 3.2 GHz Tri-core. So, mostly bad compared to most computers, barring of course the CPU, which seems to take the brunt of the calculation.

I should know, I work around PC's a lot, repairing them and building them up and such, as such I have to keep up to date with new impending hardware as sometimes customers would actually request a specific setup.

The ati 5870 is cheaper, runs cooler, consumes less power and more powerful then this card in almost any real world game benchmark comparison so why would ppl even buy a 480? and gbaturin is right if you still like nvidia then a least wait for rev 2.0 cards to come out so you can get your hands on the 485, 475 and maybe even a 5970 killing 495 and just like the 200 series cards Gigabyte and Nvidia will come out with highley modified versions of these cards by then aswell.

You shouldn't base why you should buy something, for a principal that nobody cares about. Heat is heat, and these graphic cards have been designed to withstand a massive ammount of heat, and the 5970 is only 9c cooler than the GTX480, so it's really not that big a differense.

The 5870 is not cheaper than the GTX470, it is infact $40 more expensive, and with those $40 you can buy some custom cooling and overclock it pretty far.

I don't think this card is worth the extra 5-6% increase in non-optimized games and the 12-13% increase in nVidia optimized games over the 5870. I have the 8800GTX right now and I'm waiting on the GTX 485, if it fails too, I'll just be getting the 5870 or if ATI does a refresh of the 5800 series. I'm not buying a new 1200W PSU when I can run a card fine on my Corsair 750W that I bought a month ago.
