@Chase1609 judging maybe the size i wouldnt be surprised i live near the station so i get to see it every now and then. they havent run this little guy for a while... hey they made Thomas out of a Porter switcher... i nearly lost my hearing yo that thing twice XD every time it was there there was something wrong with a valve or they were letting out the 4 month old stagnent water XO
This is a real nice video. You have some great shots of the trains real close to the camera. The shot from the side is what some hollywood movie types are like with the steam spraying over the camera. The other one with the camera in the middle of the tracks is nice too.I hope the camera lived on that one.You should build a little wood box to hold the camera the next time and bury it a little more in the rocks to hold it in place next time.
I love Strasburg Railroad! The only thing I dislike is the mechanical bells on the engines! It don't sound right to me, but you gotta do what you gotta do! Great work on this clip! Can't wait for part two!
Why? The mechanical bells, which are really called 'Air clapper' or 'Air rocker', were used on steam engines a long time ago. 475 used to have an air rocker when she was built, and 7312 had an air clapper ever since she was built. I even read that they were used in the very late 1800's.
Also, bells that are more silent, sound extremely silent when they are hand rung (Like 475's bell), and the air clapper and air rocker was invented to ring the bell without the fireman having to be in his seat.
It's not ringing the right way, because clapper moves to the side, rather than hitting the back of the bell like it should. So if there were a problem like this one, the bell could be heard.
Know the facts before you babble on about nothing. And seriously, stick to one screenname.
Great video, you caught some of the best footage of my favorite engine that I've ever seen.
I'm just curious to why 475's Air clapper was messed up the whole day? Before I knew it was messed up, I thought they were hand-ringing the bell on the thing lol.
Well I can't say I agree with you on that Adam, because you can barely hear 475's nice sounding bell when it's being hand-rung. The air clapper on it (It would be nice if they installed an air rocker on it since it was that way in the N&W days), makes it so you can hear it loud and clear, because the pendulum is hitting the bell harder with the air clapper or air rocker than it would if it was being hand-rung.

If you're a reenactor, do you get to pay a reduced fare or ride for free on the troop trains? I'm thinking about coming up for this event this year.

What is the deal with them re-numbering #31 to #7312?
TVRM610 3 years ago
That was its number on the CN.
CSX6000 3 years ago
Then whey did they change it to #31, and why did they change #89 to #911 at one time?
TVRM610 3 years ago
It was done for the CN photo charter held last November.
CSX6000 3 years ago
Why did they change 7312 to 31 in the first place?
sticklets87 3 years ago
Strasburg simply removed the 7 and the 2 and made her thier #31.
CSX6000 3 years ago
I remember the bells going in circles. For some reason, you don't see that anymore.

Also, they barely rang the bell in this video. Still, great video anyway.

They rang it when it plenty. It was very hard to hear being hand rung.
