It's like this. If the mma fighter met the boxer in the alley to fight there are no rules there the mma fighter would dominate!!!! Nuff said no questions asked it's already been proven ala Ray mercer and james Toney!! And to the guy down there @gluvs4ever GSP would rape manny pacquio in a fight u r stupid as shit!!
Boxing and mma are different types of conditioning, being a cardio workhorse in one doesn't mean the same will true after a transition to the other. Since mma is still young, there's not as wide a variance in the fighters as there is in boxing. MMA is already getting their own journeymen and starting to incorporate tune-up fights, it won't be too much longer before they become the same sport with different rules. Structural wise anyway...
@buddhaphy I enjoy MMA the most, boxing is what I grew up with and I will always have an appreciation of it. Boxing is more quantity over quality IMO, sure they fight for 11 more minute but they also take 3x as many breaks. Both sports are incredibly hard to succeed in but MMA has better overall fighters IMO. Boxers can truly become masters of their craft but there is know master of fighting. If there was the most likely sport to see it in would be MMA because they must train for everything.
mma is physically demanding with a wear on ur whole body. boxing is physically demendading with a wear on ur brain neck and stomach and arms. mma is more skilled this nigga never bothered to do BJJ or wrestle
I've done boxing so am more of a boxing fan not an mma hater but I just wanted to put this out there boxing is not dying for all of those that say that because if that was the case than mma fighter would B getting paid more than Boxers and they dont so boxing is not dying...thers a hole lot of new prospect fighters coming up this year so next year for 2012 is gonna B good now tha all the old boxers are retirering like mosely who probably would after getting a beatting from paquiao
Silva went to mma because being that there isnt any brazilian boxers in the world it made no sense for him at that time. Boxing training is alot harder than mma by far. You really think gsp would destroy manny in an mma fight. Your crazy, he might beat manny but not destroy lmao. Bigger and stronger means nothing when it comes to fighting, mike tsyon, cain velasquez, 2 examples. aND RAY MERCER didnt get his tail beat just like the guy below said just laid and praid, mercer ko sylvia lol.
@GLUVSR4EVER Cain started out in wrestling, had he not had that background he would have never got off his back when Lesnar got him down. I grew up watching Tyson, he could have made a great fighter with enough of the right training. Boxers have a strikers chance, but they need to learn ground. Mercer fought a overrated kickboxer (sylvia) who couldn't throw kicks or perform takedowns. Mercer also lost to Kimbo, youtube street fighter in his first MMA fight where he was choked out in 60 seconds.
@GLUVSR4EVER you know paquiao did mui tai before doing boxing so I dont think hell do bad going to mma because hes fast and has ko type of power but you have to put a guy that is in hes weight class not like anderson silva thats like way heavier than him
@jaythekinginthe323 There are still many grapplers in the light weight division that would give him tons of trouble, the lower weight division currently in MMA are very heavily stacked.
The primary reason MMA isn't as dangerous as boxing is because when a MMA fighter gets hurt they stop the fight or they would be seriously injured. Standing 8 counts would make fighters take too much unnecessary damage in a true combat sport. Boxer's get 11 break's in 36 minutes, MMA only has 4 breaks in 25 minutes. Grappling is more physically demanding on your body then dancing around a ring. I agree neither sport is better, they are very different sports but MMA is clearly my preference.
there is no arguement to be had, nobody wants to see two dudes punch each other in the face for twelve rounds anymore. They have 6 billion titles that mean jack shit. Ring Magazine has a boxing title, McDonalds prob has one, its nuts. And you've got boxers just hugging each other an entire fight, a la, hopkins vs Pascal. I LOVE boxing, but the truth is MMA fighters are NOT the terrible strikers of the old UFC days. Its a more well rounded, technical game filled with pro boxing level strikers
MMA done took over.Spike ,mtv2,showtime ppv its getting bigger and bigger.I don't wanna see mayweather run around and jab for 12 rounds.More ko's in mma, more finishes.Who doesnt wanna see somebody get knocked out with a flying knee.Look at all the skill sets you have to learn in mma, boxing, muay thai, wrestling, bjj plus strength training ,conditioning.
MMA is as real as it gets.I know thats a ufc slogan but its true
I like both but I prefer boxing more because there's always action. Thing about mma is a guy can get dropped with 1 punch or the fighters can just wrestle for 5 whole fucking rounds. No offense but wrestling doesn't impress me as a spectator sport, I'd rather see 2 guys throwing lightning quick punches into each others face for 36 minutes and finish lift the belt with blood pouring out of their face.
u can watch both heavy weight boxing and light weight boxing and not be bored. but if u watch heavyweight mma its boring cause its soo slow paced. ad its boring. but light weight mma is interesting. To me boxing is the more physically demanding then mma
@tjz702 mma has become bland.. i dont see much martial arts in mma.. they should really make more variaty i see most fall into same similar styles it gets boring
@tjz702 anyone can do MMA fewer can do boxing. Boxing is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE TECHNICAL THAN MMA. Anderson silva who is redarded as P4P in mma has 2 professional boxing fights in wich he got his ass kicked. Case closed, George saint pierre trained with freddy roach and got his ass handed to him by manny pacquiaos sparring partners HAHAHAHA! Case and point.
@GLUVSR4EVER mma is also techincal the problem is that people fall into the habit of NOT using martial arts and just do street fight.. i dont count street fight so much as a martial art
@GLUVSR4EVER Yeah you let gsp and silva use their whole arsenal and see what happens.I seen one a silva boxing match and it looked like he won.I have heard of him getting knocked out but i never found the video. Nothing wrong with gsp training with freddie roach to better his boxing skills. As boxers go to freddie roach to better their skills.anyone can do mma?James toney can't do it.Ray mercer got his ass beat by kimbo fuckin slice. Anyone can do anything but are you good at it
@GLUVSR4EVER I am going to reopen your case, Anderson also lost his first MMA fight which happen 2 years after his first boxing match. Silva won his 2nd boxing bout & could have stayed in either sport but he chose to pursue MMA. Put pacman in the octagon with GSP and he would be annihilated by a bigger stronger athlete. Being the best boxer doesn't make you the best fighter in the world, it only makes you the best boxer. Stylistically boxing is easily countered by kickboxing & grappling.
boxing all day if take a good BOXER and teach em mma basics then mma fighter has nothin.put a good heavyweight mma against a lennox lewis iron mike or ali..roy jones jr or aron pryor..imagine how fasta and harda they hit with those mma gloves.how do u sound man..lol..good striker or not wouldn't stand a chance if they can even get close enough to grab.Ill show u jus keep up wit fightin sports on tv
@MyTyetye actualy they wont be able to adapt. someone like lennox who has 1 year of mma basics will not survive a person like shane carwin who has deadly Ko power and ncaa d2 wrestling champ. even david haye said that he thought he could try to ko when they got close he couldnt do it and he tried clinch striking his arms were shot and couldnt punch. mma requires more skill than boxing.
well even if u take a boxer and mma fighter and put em together u gotta remember styles make fights so it would really depend on the fighter if both were to fight each other and in which sport. ive been boxing for 6 years and pro for a year and been training to fight mma to..there both tough but as far as i can say is im far to fast on my feet to be tooken down and quick with my hands but i have been learning mixed martial arts so just to let boxing and mma fans know im dominate both im upcomin
Well actually I disagree If u put a good MMA striker up against a boxer then the mma fighter would definitely win if they were the same skill level as each other.
Not too mention that if a boxer were to tap out against an mma fighters hold the boxer loses the match.
Tap out for the win, Boxer will be tapping out like a bitch because he/she won't be able to take it anymore.
Its diffrent damage, MMA is Tough its a good thing about the sport that its more safe, but your not going to die from a from a broken bone or leg, there's a big chance of dying from a heavy shot to the Head
@AoKxAsSaSsiNx More techniques in MMA, more skill in Boxing, MMA is a good sport. on average 50 people DIE in each year in boxing compared to MMA where there only ever been 3. I'd rather have sore ribs and sore legs from being kicked than getting hit in the head with around 1200 pounds of force. Boxing is harder and tougher
@AFFTL Yeah you're spot on. MMA requires you to master all sorts of locks, stances and so on, but this stuff comes natural really. Boxing is harder and requires you to retrain your mind from your natural way of fighting (grabbing someone and choking him) to moving around someone and hitting him for hours on end.
To have a long career in MMA u'll need to be trained in various Martial Arts standing up and on the ground, but i think if there was a fight between Heavy Weight Boxing Champion and the Heavy Weight MMA\ UFC champion, there's no reason why the the Boxer couldn't get one Big punch and win, look at Ray Mercer vs Tim Silvia.
@taker62632 I don't agree with this comment for the simple fact that Boxing is a sport. It's not 2 guys that hate eachother and wanna streetfight. It's 2 athletes that wanna prove who is better at their craft. Same with MMA, you don't agree not to hit a guy in the back of the head, the groin, or eye gouge, or bite or scratch, or whatever. MMA isn't streetfighting and any martial artist will tell you that you can die in a streetfight and no referee is telling someone when to get off of you.
the mmas top strikers get GASSED OUT in a few rounds(without grappling) yea their 5 minutes but they cant go 12 three minute rounds. ive seen complete stand up rounds between top mma strikers n they GASS OUT bad.
@gnrsux2 MMA doesn't require more conditioning then boxing. MMA fighters don't train as hard as boxers do. MMA fighter's aren't doing 2,500 sit-ups or running 15 miles in training camp. Now I do believe that MMA fighters are freakishly fit and that MMA isn't a sport for a normal human being. But I don't think they have to be as physically fit as boxers.
@PREMODOGMATIC boxers arent as fit as mma fighters. mma is running doing alot of situps and pushups and many plyometrics excersies. u obviously dont know anything bout grappling conditioning. mma ur doing both striking and grappling conditioning. mma is more of a sport than boxing.
@gnrsux2 You obviously don't know anything about sports and fitness in general. Boxers train much harder than MMA fighters. The time spent on the mat does require conditioning, but it's more about training and building skill than about actual fitness. Boxers train hard before the actual sparring and skill training begins.
@PREMODOGMATIC ur an idiot boxers train less harder than mma fighters. ask ray mercer tyson and james toney and many boxers they say mma is way harder, mma builds more skill than boxing.
@gnrsux2 First of all no one is talking about training in terms of skill, I said boxers are in better shape and physical condition. And just because those guys said those things out of RESPECT, it means nothing. I've seen MMA guys say the same about boxing. I have even burned more energy boxing than wrestling. But since you chose to call me an idiot rather than making a logical response you can suck my dick from the back.
@PREMODOGMATIC if u have one. boxing is easy in terms of conditioning with mma. 5 5min rounds of both is harder due to not clinching for recovering and falling on purpose like in boxing
@gnrsux2 1st of all. MMA isn't exactly non stopped action. Ever see two guys pinned against the cage plotting there next move? 2nd it's only five rounds in Championship bouts in MMA. 3rd boxers don't purposely fall for rest and they are still burning energy in a clinch. And we aren't talking about fight night we're talking about training. Which brings me back to my first point, MMA fighters aren't running 15 miles or doing 2500 sit-ups before sparring, heavy bags/speed Bags, jump rope etc...
@PREMODOGMATIC yes they r. u obvously dont know anythin stop talking. 5 5 mins is harder less breaks than boxing in boxing people fall to get a rest and dance for 12 rounds. you really r an idiot if u think mma fighters dont do simple workouts they do that ALOT.
@gnrsux2 Ur obviously calling me an idiot because you don't know anything about boxing or mma training. I have wrestled and boxed. I have a little experience, but you can't even back up your opinion with facts. I didn't say simple workouts I gave examples of how strenuous the training is in boxing and further more I even stated that MMA fighters do train hard. Just not as hard as boxers. You really should know your facts before you give an opinion.
@PREMODOGMATIC i have did both also and currently doing muay thai. boxers dont even come close to training as hard as mma fighters ask alot of boxers. even manny said it
@gnrsux2 You can believe what you want. I know the truth and I've seen training camps and videos, I can easily read your comments and tell that you don't know what you are talking about let alone have actual experience. so you and your lies can go ahead ant live in your make believe world.
This guy is very fair in his breakdown of the 2 sports. i am an MMA fan. i was the biggest boxing fan from 1977 to 1993 but then i learned that Groundfighting was the best form of fighting so i switched to MMA/Jiujitsu/ufc. no way boxing can beat a groundfighting. thats why i switched.
I like how people say that boxing is a hand sport!! when my coach has been telling me for last 7 years that it is all about footwork!!! What separates the greatest from the rest in boxing its their foot work. Sugar ray robinson, muhammad ali, floyd mayweather, roy jones jr, oscar de la hoya all of them had great foot work.
honestly boxers have a harder hit and they would completely destroy any haymaker coming at them.... ive seen a nasty boxer take out a nasty mma fighter in my backyard
Prime Tyson would just steamroll right through MMA fighter. So would Dempsey. So would Sonny Liston. So would Jake Lamotta. So would Joe Frazier. Even Ron Stander would do excellent. Harry Greb and Stanley Ketchel would do amazing in the lighter divisions. John L Sullvian, bare knuckle grappler who was a very good wrestler and boxer combined, same with Jim Jeffries, would also do great.
@Rockyfan10060 LOL go search the vid posted aug 24 by dana white with tyson he says no boxer would steamroll any MMA fighter.! Thats from one of the greatest boxers ever own mouth!
If you actually watch MMA you'll see that 4 times out of 5 someone who can take the fight to the ground beats a fantastic striker. Take a great boxer or muay tai practitioner pit him against a great wrestler. Wrestler will win more times than not.
Agree. I started off in traditional Martial Arts and then went into Boxing. Boxing is much harder. I seen what appears to be wrestlers come to train in boxing and when they seen the hitting in sparring, they never came back. Hitting hurts and is scary. Choke holds may win a MMA fight. Buta sport that only hits isscary.
Two different sports. Boxing is an expert sport and Jiu Jitsu is an expert sport. Can compare them. A good boxer is a better boxer than MMA who is not a trained boxer and that same good boxer can't grapple and is no contest for Jiu Jitsu...
I prefer boxing; its a gentlemans sport that is more exciting and requires more skill. how can two totally different sports be compared. anyway until mma acheives wat boxing has acheived it will always be second rate. besides lots of people see mma as animal bum fighting (not me) so they stay with boxing. altho boxing is just as brutal.
@ThePtno1 i disagree, i think that when you train for mma, you need to train in4 or 5 or more martial arts, boxing, wresting, thai boxing, jiu jitsu, kickboxing, judo etc. to wrap your head around all those differnt disiplines and be able to switch between them at any givin second is extreamly difficult. i do love boxing but, mma would take you much longer to be considered good at.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm a boxing fan first, MMA second
Boxing is more dangerous than MMA the target is the head
in MMA you can lose in so many fuckin ways... specially if it's liberal rules like in Brazil ,So obvious the MMA fighter is a better fighter all around..the boxing boxing stance doesn't work in MMA the foot work wont work because of the take downs
but for pure Entertainment i'll take boxing any day..
I love boxing and even hope to start boxing one day. I respect boxing and I also respect that they only use their fist to fight without useing cheap elbows and a kick to win fighting with your fist is the only thing that makes sense to me. Their is also more possion in the art then MMA and boxers go through more pain then anyone.
Boxing vs MMA, the great debate. It's like comparing Soccer to Baseball. They are different sports with different rules. Boxing is definitely more damaging to the brain. Haven't heard too many veteran pro boxers who didn't sound punch drunk to some degree. The vast majority of veteran MMA pro's are still very articulate when speaking.
are there promotional mistakes boxing has made that have run that sport in the ground? Don King is at fault perhaps? if so what are they and how can they be fixed. MMA needs boxing. all the best mma fighters use pro boxers to help them polish a very important aspect of the game. love for all the martial arts!
although i dont agree with your opinions, i still had to give you a thumbs up, just cuz your really respectful about the subject. big time kudos for that cuz most ppl arent too mature about it, like this kid boxeop4p saying "mmgay" come on people... grow up. the reason i like MMA is cuz it converts easily into fighting situations and self defense, where as boxin doesnt so much, most fights go to the ground and i know that ill be ready when it does but thats my opinion
I JUST DONT GET WHY BOXERS THINK THEY CAN WIN ON THE GROUND WITH A TRAINED GROUND FIGHTER ...AND MMA FIGHTERS DO BOXING FOR MMA AND PPL WHO SAY MMA FIGHTERS HAV NO SKILL NLOOK UP SUMONE LIKE .........CRO COP
People need to stop being so ignorant. Boxing and MMA are two different sports. Each sport is different, therefore why are people hating on the other?
I love each sport, and watch. Obviously, boxers have better hands than MMA fighters, because boxers work solely on their hands when MMA fighters work on hands, feet, and ground game.
Grappling is exhausting, controlling your opponent. Even when you "rest," you have to drive your weight or else you'd get sweeped. Props to both, I do prefer MMA.
I respect boxing and boxers but, MOST boxing fans have nothing to say but that MMA is a bunch a guys on top of each other. Maybe they should actually watch and learn about MMA and realize the strategy behind it. Or, maybe they would feel different when they take some knees to the face or when they are in an umaplata, and get a dislocated elbow and shoulder.
Both sports are an art form, I think. Boxing is the sport of punching while MMA is the sport of fighting. As far as being in shape, both sports are highly demanding.
One point is that I can punch non-stop for 3 minutes straight while I can't punch, kick, grapple and wrestle for the same amount of time without passing out.
Boxing is a very limited sport whereas in MMA, boxing is just one aspect of it. Boxing has been around for a very long time while real fighting has been around forever.
There is a greater risk of brain damage in boxing but I prefer watching it over MMA big time. I think MMA is going to run shit in the combating sporting world for long while, though. I train boxing because it fits my mentality and I can sure as hell utlize it if I ever needed too. Professional boxing is dangerous a fuck. Even more so than MMA in my opinion.
Look I am a boxing enthusiast and used to slam mma supporters for even daring to attempt it was better then boxing. What I have come to realize through many converstaions is that both boxing and mma are great sports in their own right. There are certain things boxers can do that mma fighters can't and vice versa. to say one is better then the other is like saying golf it better then hockey. They are two very different sports and should both be respected for what they are.
mma is like pro street fighting, ugly not a sport, not a art . boxing is a sport, a art. y would a pro boxer go to mma? being a pro boxer is better then being a mma fighter, boxers are more skilled and look more professional when they fight, when mma figths fight, i get embaresed just watching them cuz its like watching school kids fight. mma will never take over boxing, EVA
@TheGuGeZ yes, very professional which is why there is ear biting incidents lol. i dont c how they r more skilled o.O they train ONLY for the hands... nothing else.. ah well, cant always come to an agreement even with something obvious.
@mspark89 you know what you call a bitch move? when you try to hit a guy when he's a ground thats what mma does. bitch move period. and you talking about class? dont compare boxing and mma when it comes to class cause boxing is in a league of its own. second to football(soccer) boxing is now the sport of the world. from Israel, Mongolia, Philippines, Ghana to Puerto Rico and mexico. BOxing has a universal appeal while mma is mostly popular in the states.
@spitfirez89 see, now ur saying its a bitch move lo. u know what that is? its actual fighting. strange..when mma is popular over the world as well, and getting bigger each day. u have to take into consideration that boxing has a longer history. u know that mma is only about 15years old right..? so..ur trying to compare hundreds of years of history against 15 years to say the others more "popular" now that seems like a "bitch move" =]
@mspark89 dude hitting a guy when he on the ground is a bitch move and there is no other way of twisting it. even in street fights they have rules of not hitting a downed opponent. it is a bitch move period. and mma welcomes that aspect to the sport which i dont find appealing at all.
@spitfirez89 the fuk u smoking?? first of all, there are RULES in a street fight..? huh? what? ROFL 2nd. every street fight ive seen, when ppl go to the ground they start pounding on one another.. -_- i dont know what kind of pussy ppl youve seen fighting, but hitting some1 on the ground as ACTUAL fighting... at least UFC has rules to where u can hit them while on the ground, like no hits to the back of the head. street fighting as NO rules.. 0
@mspark89 look at this bitch accusing and cussing when you dont know shit about me. this guys acting though like he fought tough guys. oohh im so impressed. boxing has been one of my strengths my entire life, what true for one guy wont be true for another. boxing is all i ever needed to stay strong and disciplined. so fuck what you think you presumptions lil prick. Boxing>mma
@spitfirez89 im sure ive fought a lot more tougher ppl than you have, instead of coming up with lame excuses to pretend ur punching sport on youtube. im cussing? lol.. ur the one whose blood is boiling and cant even talk straight. u only look at one part of fighting, its not what i think..its what ive experience. boxing is not enough lol. like i said, message me if u wanna continue, instead of taking up space here. mma > boxing :)
@mspark89 all in all like i said before you cant really say who would win if a real fight took palce cause what matters is the skill of the fighters fighting. get that through your presumptuous thick head. asswipe.
@mspark89 then why would you reply to every single comment i made? that tells me you couldn't let it go. now looks like someone is in denial! now see what i did? i had a presumption just like you did without a single validation whatsoever. just like when you said i was pissed. how would you know that? lol anyways peace man
@spitfirez89 i told you why i reply lol. you leave a comment, so i reply to it. duh? its that simple lol. if u wanna get that techinical, i could ask the same for you. i thought we agreed to go our seperate ways, but YOU kept comin back cuz you couldnt take the last word. am i wrong? :) its funny you talked as if your agnry at first, and when i said your pissed, u try to play it off cool by putting smily faces n saying i assume lol. plus u even admitted twice u were agrivated :D
@mspark89 lol like you couldn't let it be either fool. you couldn't stop replying to my comments as well. you should realize that also. and again you just presume thing without a single validation. i put smiley faces cause i wanna hide that im angry? that is one stupid analogy. hence proving my initial point. you just presume without a single shred of evidence to back you up. :)
You don't understand fighting and if you only watch boxing you will never know hell K-1 is true striking before even trying to compare boxing to "MMA" where the scary word every boxer and boxing fan is afraid of "grappling" is allowed, look at something that is similar to boxing as in grappling isn't allowed.
I was a fan of boxing way b4 I gave 2 shits about MMA now I watch it all and it sucks to be you to not understand where boxing fits with other forms of combat
Wow the "humping" non-sense that people who know nothing about fighting don't get. That isn't a shot at MMA at all its a shot at wrestling and jiujitsu. Ya so what if they dont want to STAND and strike if its not their strength? Boxers are afraid to grapple and have excuses like "MMA is homosexual" no Wrestling and jiujitsu is what your thinking of and when your face gets pounded in or a kimura is applied you'll think twice about calling it gay when your arm breaks
MMA because it includes boxing, and it takes in some many different kinds of fighting styles. when you box your fighting a boxer. When you are in mma you can be a boxer fighting a kickboxer. MMA is going to take over
I boxed since I was a kid. I also boxed in the Army. (as well as Judo) I now do MMA and will say that MMA is definitely tougher. Boxings only advantage as this point is a longer history but the caliber of fighters is completely different. MMA is way more demanding conditioning wise. Yes you MIGHT do 12 rounds in Boxing which takes some conditioning but doing 3x5 with you strike and grapple takes a lot more. I will always love Boxing it has helped me in and out the ring but prefer MMA.
I think that MMA is gonna become bigger than boxing. I think that the potential talent pool is bigger - western thai boxers, submission wrestlers, collegiete wrestlers, Samboist, Judoka, etc, now have a sport where they can go pro and use thier skills. I think this generation is gonna be the first where they grow up with MMA gyms in every city, and now people will be practicing from a young age. Also when MMA becomes an olympic sport the talent pool, athleticism, and skill will increase.
Boxing has been pro for over 100 yrs, MMA has been pro since the early 90's. If you look at early MMA fights and the last UFC PPV they look like 2 different sports. Boxing is more dangerous than MMA no doubt, taking head shots for 12 rounds is much more damaging. I disagree on the conditioning thing, seriously try 3x5 minute rounds throwing punches, knees, kicks, clinch work, takedowns, ground striking and submissions. They are 2 different sports though. I'm more of a fan of MMA.
a mma fighter can never be as good in boxing as a boxer, becouse boxer just train boxing, but yet again, a boxer in a mma fight cant do all those slips, technique etc becouse there is knees, kicks and takedowns to worrie about
What you say is just pure ignorance MMA is fighting boxing is just punching remember that. The reason I want you to remember that is because in case you don't know or don't understand MMA at all boxing is a part of MMA when a guy is punching in MMA he's boxing when he's avoiding contact he's performing karate and when your kicking its kickboxing and when your taking a guy down its wrestling or judo and when your on the ground its jiujitsu or wrestling.
your wrong. mma is bar brawling. boxing is a sweet science. mma fighters cant punch if their lives depended on it. they dont know how to punch. when an mma guy is punching is not boxing its shoulder punches. mma has nothing to do with boxing. boxing is a science. mma is not.
YOU IGNORANT FOOL! You still don't understand MMA can be a boxing match and it can be a grappling match that is the beauty of MMA that you fail to see. Boxers are already MMA fighters but if you can't handle someone grabbing your limbs then how can you call yourself a true fighter? Your not your just a boxer then. Boxing matches should no longer be called "fights" they should only be called a "boxing match" because it is not the true fight MMA is the true fight
When you look at it Boxing is the brawl when all you do is punch your ignorance of MMA. Tell me now how is bobbing and weaving and even superior handspeed going to help you when your getting kicked in your ribs & legs or your on the ground and on your back? Watch UFC 1 and you'll understand why boxers (or 1 dimensional MMA fighters that only train in boxing) have barely any chance against an MMA fighter.
mma is like an after school fight. Its not a science. boxing is a science. real judo, karate, and other martial arts from ancient asia is a science but not mma.
You say it isn't a science? What does that mean? You say Judo and Karate is art but MMA isn't? MMA is what you want it to be whether its Judo, Karate, Boxing, Wrestling, Jiujitsu, or Muay Thai thats the beauty of MMA that you don't see or understand because to you its a school fight though school fights use boxing so I can easily counter with that. Real Fighting is an art you can watch bar brawls or after school fights if you want or watch the best true fighters on the planet
various combat sports are scientific with tactics involved. you should google "boxing the sweet science". that will answer your question. judo, karate etc is an art but mma is not because mma is not refined. mma is evolving and not a real combat sport of science. it is like a freak show. if you want to see real combat you should watch karate championships and boxing, olympic wrestling etc. mma is not a science. its a brawl.
No tactics? No science? Your telling me the UFC fighters all wasted their time perfecting their techniques so that it could be used against other fighters? The Olympic and NCAA All-American wrestlers, jiujitsu, and kickboxing champions all wasted their time when training for each fight because there are no tactics? This not A combat sport it is THE combat sport. Its "too real" for you admit it. MMA brings relevance to every form of combat to see if the are indeed worth learning.
ufc is a freek show. mma isnt a sweet science like boxing. you wanna compare mma to boxing?. there's nothing to compare. mma is a bar brawl and boxing is a sweet sweet science. mma fighters cant throw a punch.
Boxers can't wrestle, perform submissions, take anyone down, fight in a clinch, or kick so what is so great about them over MMA fighters? Saying "sweet sweet" doesn't make it any sweeter. There are plenty of fighters who throw terrific punches but they are actually smart enough not to focus everything on just punching boxing is great to learn for punching but not for anything else. Is it because those boxers have big gloves that you feel safe? MMA is fighting boxing is punching
I get what your saying but mma is a new sport and has not evolved compltely. Its still in its infancy. Traditional Judo, Karate, and all other asian martial arts have been around for thousands of years. MMA is not refined yet and does not compete with Boxing because Boxing has been around for thousands of years and is a scientific sport. MMA is not scientific but its eye candy. I watch mma and i am a fan of it, but Boxing is a more refined sport that has better technical abilities. Its a Science
YOU FOOL YOU REALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND. MMA has been around since the beginning of mankind. Ancient Greece had a form of MMA called "Pankration" at their Olympics with everything being legal except for eye gouging and lowblows. MMA has lived on through Vale Tudo for a very long time and until 1993 TRUE MMA was brought back through the UFC thanks to Brazilian jiujitsu practitioners wanting to prove that their style was best and this event was called UFC 1. BOXING IS A FORM OF MMA
What refinements does MMA need? You don't mean more rules do you? Because if that is what your implying then forget about it you don't need to take anything out if they change anything in the combat it will be adding knees to the head of a downed opponent. It seems too brutal or "real" to you because you don't understand fighting it is an art watch Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and BJ Penn what they do is art.
and boxers can't fight off the ground pull of submissions and they certainly can't grapple. all fights and on the ground and mma is the closest thing to a real fight.
What other pro boxers have fought in MMA? I'm just pointing out that boxing isn't everything in a fight there far more than boxing to learn when you fight the sooner these boxing maniacs realize that winning a fight means a hell of a lot more than winning a boxing match the better. You might be a better boxer than the other guy but what if the guy can kick you or knee you in the face (like Ben Saunders vs Marcus Davis who is a former golden gloves champion and Saunders KO him)
It's like this.

Super8astard 5 months ago
@buddhaphy I enjoy MMA the most, boxing is what I grew up with and I will always have an appreciation of it. Boxing is more quantity over quality IMO, sure they fight for 11 more minute but they also take 3x as many breaks. Both sports are incredibly hard to succeed in but MMA has better overall fighters IMO. Boxers can truly become masters of their craft but there is know master of fighting. If there was the most likely sport to see it in would be MMA because they must train for everything.

This has been flagged as spam show
there is no arguement to be had, nobody wants to see two dudes punch each other in the face for twelve rounds anymore. Its a more well rounded, technical game filled with pro boxing level strikers
ageeeeeeeeee 9 months ago
MMA done took over.Spike ,mtv2,showtime ppv its getting bigger and bigger.I don't wanna see mayweather run around and jab for 12 rounds.More ko's in mma, more finishes.Who doesnt wanna see somebody get knocked out with a flying knee.Look at all the skill sets you have to learn in mma, boxing, muay thai, wrestling, bjj plus strength training ,conditioning.
MMA is as real as it gets.I know thats a ufc slogan but its true
whoisbrucewayne 10 months ago
I like both but I prefer boxing more because there's always action. Thing about mma is a guy can get dropped with 1 punch or the fighters can just wrestle for 5 whole fucking rounds. No offense but wrestling doesn't impress me as a spectator sport, I'd rather see 2 guys throwing lightning quick punches into each others face for 36 minutes and finish lift the belt with blood pouring out of their face.

@tjz702 anyone can do MMA fewer can do boxing. Boxing is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY MORE TECHNICAL THAN MMA. @GLUVSR4EVER mma is also techincal the problem is that people fall into the habit of NOT using martial arts and just do street fight.. i dont count street fight so much as a martial art
TheRogueMonk 11 months ago
@GLUVSR4EVER Yeah you let gsp and silva use their whole arsenal and see what happens.I seen one a silva boxing match and it looked like he won.I have heard of him getting knocked out but i never found the video. Nothing wrong with gsp training with freddie roach to better his boxing skills. As boxers go to freddie roach to better their skills.anyone can do mma?James toney can't do it.Ray mercer got his ass beat by kimbo fuckin slice. Anyone can do anything but are you good at it
whoisbrucewayne 10 months ago
@GLUVSR4EVER I am going to reopen your case, Anderson also lost his first MMA fight which happen 2 years after his first boxing match. Silva won his 2nd boxing bout & could have stayed in either sport but he chose to pursue MMA. Put pacman in the octagon with GSP and he would be annihilated by a bigger stronger athlete. Being the best boxer doesn't make you the best fighter in the world, it only makes you the best boxer. Stylistically boxing is easily countered by kickboxing & grappling.

AFFTL 1 year ago
@AoKxAsSaSsiNx More techniques in MMA, more skill in Boxing, MMA is a good sport. on average 50 people DIE in each year in boxing compared to MMA where there only ever been 3. I'd rather have sore ribs and sore legs from being kicked than getting hit in the head with around 1200 pounds of force. Boxing is harder and tougher
AFFTL 1 year ago
@AFFTL same damage they are equal. mma=whole body damage like sprains, broken bones bruises many others. boxing=straight up head and body
ageeeeeeeeee 1 year ago
@AFFTL Yeah you're spot on. MMA requires you to master all sorts of locks, stances and so on, but this stuff comes natural really. Boxing is harder and requires you to retrain your mind from your natural way of fighting (grabbing someone and choking him) to moving around someone and hitting him for hours on end.
DestroyerAlexandros 1 year ago

@newcastlekingdom wat bout lyoto machida vs shogun rua. or even fedor vs mirko. mma requires more conditioning than boxing
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 MMA doesn't require more conditioning then boxing. MMA fighters don't train as hard as boxers do. MMA fighter's aren't doing 2,500 sit-ups or running 15 miles in training camp. Now I do believe that MMA fighters are freakishly fit and that MMA isn't a sport for a normal human being. But I don't think they have to be as physically fit as boxers.
PREMODOGMATIC 1 year ago
@PREMODOGMATIC boxers arent as fit as mma fighters. mma is running doing alot of situps and pushups and many plyometrics excersies. u obviously dont know anything bout grappling conditioning. mma ur doing both striking and grappling conditioning. mma is more of a sport than boxing.
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 You obviously don't know anything about sports and fitness in general. Boxers train much harder than MMA fighters. The time spent on the mat does require conditioning, but it's more about training and building skill than about actual fitness. Boxers train hard before the actual sparring and skill training begins.
PREMODOGMATIC 1 year ago
@PREMODOGMATIC ur an idiot boxers train less harder than mma fighters. ask ray mercer tyson and james toney and many boxers they say mma is way harder, mma builds more skill than boxing.
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 First of all no one is talking about training in terms of skill, I said boxers are in better shape and physical condition. And just because those guys said those things out of RESPECT, it means nothing. I've seen MMA guys say the same about boxing. I have even burned more energy boxing than wrestling. But since you chose to call me an idiot rather than making a logical response you can suck my dick from the back.
PREMODOGMATIC 1 year ago
@PREMODOGMATIC if u have one. boxing is easy in terms of conditioning with mma. 5 5min rounds of both is harder due to not clinching for recovering and falling on purpose like in boxing
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 1st of all. MMA isn't exactly non stopped action. Ever see two guys pinned against the cage plotting there next move? 2nd it's only five rounds in Championship bouts in MMA. 3rd boxers don't purposely fall for rest and they are still burning energy in a clinch. And we aren't talking about fight night we're talking about training. Which brings me back to my first point, MMA fighters aren't running 15 miles or doing 2500 sit-ups before sparring, heavy bags/speed Bags, jump rope etc...
PREMODOGMATIC 1 year ago
@PREMODOGMATIC yes they r. u obvously dont know anythin stop talking. 5 5 mins is harder less breaks than boxing in boxing people fall to get a rest and dance for 12 rounds. you really r an idiot if u think mma fighters dont do simple workouts they do that ALOT.
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 Ur obviously calling me an idiot because you don't know anything about boxing or mma training. I have wrestled and boxed. I have a little experience, but you can't even back up your opinion with facts. I didn't say simple workouts I gave examples of how strenuous the training is in boxing and further more I even stated that MMA fighters do train hard. Just not as hard as boxers. You really should know your facts before you give an opinion.
PREMODOGMATIC 1 year ago
@PREMODOGMATIC i have did both also and currently doing muay thai. boxers dont even come close to training as hard as mma fighters ask alot of boxers. even manny said it
gnrsux2 1 year ago
@gnrsux2 You can believe what you want. I know the truth and I've seen training camps and videos, I can easily read your comments and tell that you don't know what you are talking about let alone have actual experience. so you and your lies can go ahead ant live in your make believe world.

Props to both, I do prefer MMA.
xyeggs 1 year ago

RicoGio75 1 year ago
There is a greater risk of brain damage in boxing but I prefer watching it over MMA big time. I think MMA is going to run shit in the combating sporting world for long while, though.

@mspark89 dude hitting a guy when he on the ground is a bitch move and there is no other way of twisting it. even in street fights they have rules of not hitting a downed opponent. it is a bitch move period. and mma welcomes that aspect to the sport which i dont find appealing at all.

@spitfirez89 i told you why i reply lol. you leave a comment, so i reply to it. duh? its that simple lol. if u wanna get that techinical, i could ask the same for you. i thought we agreed to go our seperate ways, but YOU kept comin back cuz you couldnt take the last word. am i wrong? :) its funny you talked as if your agnry at first, and when i said your pissed, u try to play it off cool by putting smily faces n saying i assume lol. plus u even admitted twice u were agrivated :D
mspark89 1 year ago

I was a fan of boxing way b4 I gave 2 shits about MMA now I watch it all and it sucks to be you to not understand where boxing fits with other forms of combat
mothercanuckers 1 year ago
@Gorideyurbike
Wow the "humping" non-sense that people who know nothing about fighting don't get. That isn't a shot at MMA at all its a shot at wrestling and jiujitsu. Ya so what if they dont want to STAND and strike if its not their strength? Boxers are afraid to grapple and have excuses like "MMA is homosexual" no Wrestling and jiujitsu is what your thinking of and when your face gets pounded in or a kimura is applied you'll think twice about calling it gay when your arm breaks
mothercanuckers 1 year ago
MMA because it includes boxing, and it takes in some many different kinds of fighting styles. when you box your fighting a boxer. When you are in mma you can be a boxer fighting a kickboxer. MMA is going to take over
ilove01986 1 year ago

LuqmanNaq 1 year ago
@LuqmanNaq I think you should leave out skill in that last sentence, as it's purely wrong/
Gorideyurbike 1 year ago
Boxing has been pro for over 100 yrs, MMA has been pro since the early 90's. If you look at early MMA fights and the last UFC PPV they look like 2 different sports. Boxing is more dangerous than MMA no doubt, taking head shots for 12 rounds is much more damaging. I disagree on the conditioning thing, seriously try 3x5 minute rounds throwing punches, knees, kicks, clinch work, takedowns, ground striking and submissions. They are 2 different sports though. I'm more of a fan of MMA.
LuqmanNaq 1 year ago
a mma fighter can never be as good in boxing as a boxer, becouse boxer just train boxing, but yet again, a boxer in a mma fight cant do all those slips, technique etc becouse there is knees, kicks and takedowns to worrie about

boxing is a sweet science. mma is 3 o clock school fighting.
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
What you say is just pure ignorance MMA is fighting boxing is just punching remember that. The reason I want you to remember that is because in case you don't know or don't understand MMA at all boxing is a part of MMA when a guy is punching in MMA he's boxing when he's avoiding contact he's performing karate and when your kicking its kickboxing and when your taking a guy down its wrestling or judo and when your on the ground its jiujitsu or wrestling.
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
your wrong. mma is bar brawling. boxing is a sweet science. mma fighters cant punch if their lives depended on it. they dont know how to punch. when an mma guy is punching is not boxing its shoulder punches. mma has nothing to do with boxing. boxing is a science. mma is not.
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
Boxing matches should no longer be called "fights" they should only be called a "boxing match" because it is not the true fight MMA is the true fight
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
@Draziom203

Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
Real Fighting is an art you can watch bar brawls or after school fights if you want or watch the best true fighters on the planet
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
various combat sports are scientific with tactics involved. you should google "boxing the sweet science". that will answer your question. judo, karate etc is an art but mma is not because mma is not refined. mma is evolving and not a real combat sport of science. it is like a freak show. if you want to see real combat you should watch karate championships and boxing, olympic wrestling etc. mma is not a science. its a brawl.
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
No tactics? MMA brings relevance to every form of combat to see if the are indeed worth learning.
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
ufc is a freek show. mma isnt a sweet science like boxing. you wanna compare mma to boxing?. there's nothing to compare. mma is a bar brawl and boxing is a sweet sweet science. mma fighters cant throw a punch.
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
MMA is fighting boxing is punching
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
I get what your saying but mma is a new sport and has not evolved compltely. Its still in its infancy. Traditional Judo, Karate, and all other asian martial arts have been around for thousands of years. MMA is not refined yet and does not compete with Boxing because Boxing has been around for thousands of years and is a scientific sport. MMA is not scientific but its eye candy. I watch mma and i am a fan of it, but Boxing is a more refined sport that has better technical abilities. Its a Science
Draziom203 2 years ago
@Draziom203
BOXING IS A FORM OF MMA
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
@Draziom203
What refinements does MMA need? You don't mean more rules do you? Because if that is what your implying then forget about it you don't need to take anything out if they change anything in the combat it will be adding knees to the head of a downed opponent. It seems too brutal or "real" to you because you don't understand fighting it is an art watch Anderson Silva, Lyoto Machida, and BJ Penn what they do is art.
mothercanuckers 2 years ago
@Draziom203
and boxers can't fight off the ground pull of submissions and they certainly can't grapple. all fights and on the ground and mma is the closest thing to a real fight.
