In traditional horoscope/zodiac/tarot readings, the moon represents the unconscious or sub-conscious. I think Hisaishi-sensei is expressing that. His pieces move me on a level that opens doors beyond logic. And yet, once they are known, they are within the logic of the soul. It is learning.
an endless pond stretching as far as the eye can see with only two people in sight. one is a young boy who is with his little sister playing in a never ending dream of youth. a stone gently skips across the water symbolising the boys tears as he realises his dream is the end as his sister died days ago. he realises this is the end but letting go is truly painful and the mind breaking lonliness gives a pain so sharp, so sad that he can't even cry. the boy sees a train and chooses to join her.
This composition gives me goosebumps. Joe Hisaishi has this incredible power to make your soul feel the meaning of the music straight away. "Impossible dream" sounds like an impossible dream, something sad and unreachable, but terribly beautiful and beyond compare. :) I really look up to him, and i wish i could understand the human soul and heart half as easily and perfectly as he does. :)
I discovered Mr. Hisaishi's music through the films of the master animator Hayao Miyazaki, which I'm sure most of you are aware. I just wanted to comment on how great I think this music is. He is probably one of the greatest composers alive today.
Not only that, but one of the few truly original composers we have today. Definitely has a very distinct style, yet can adapt to classical, big band or even swing music.
Indeed. And it's somewhat sad and ridiculous that western critics are largely ignoring a neo-romanticist movement in East Asia (which has already started and is well on its way to ending!), hung up on their incomprehensible, silly post modernism.
@CANAirforce the dream is that just me and all the animals live in this earth and no more human
i dun need to say anything to express my feelings to the animals, we use heart to understand each other. And i can kiss the rain, enjoy the shine of snow, enjoy the stars before i sleep, play my lovely piano and violin on a beautiful snow scene, immerse myself under the Milky Way.
The beginning sounds a bit like Howl's Moving Castle! I love Hisashi's music!

Joe Hisashi is becoming my favorite composer right now...
Nobuo Uematsu and him are modern time geniuses.
Some people stereotype stuff just because Uematsu for example makes music for video games. They do not recognize geniuses.
Please, any one of you, can you watch the video called "Joe Hisashi - The End of the Story" or this link "/watch?v=5C9ltv2Ei94"
& tell me the name of the song and where it was used. Because I searched on google, I think "The End of the Story" isn't the real title.

It's an impossible dream to write that kind of breath taking music.
But, Joe Hisaishi beat the impossible.
He is truly the master of the impossible.
Thumbs up if you agree. :D
