@EricVelasco13 I'm afraid you need to learn a few things about musicianship. There is no way you can substitute real playing and emotion by facial expressions. Exaggerated faces distract live audience, ESPECIALLY when the faces made don't connect with the music at all and are just there to look "cool" and "emotional". It's plastic and fake.

I think Lang had made effort to control himself to suit the orchestra, not too show off his expressive piano skill. If you compare with his solo Chopin Op.22 , you will see how "expressive" he can play

Are some of you seriously frowning upon Lang Lang for making facial expressions? Are you kidding me? I'm a pianist and I make facial expressions constantly while I'm playing. (It does not affect my technique, but perhaps enhances it) It's called "feeling the music", it's an uncontrollable feeling that comes from within. I don't believe making facial expressions ruins it at all, it makes it a little more interesting, if nothing else, and a lot easier to get into the personality of the pianist.

Actually, facial expressions actually DO affect your technique. When you do facial expressions, your shoulders will get more tense, which leads to more tense hands, not relaxed hands.

When I hear this played I am awed by the Pianists' who play it and I am also struck by the beauty and genius of this composition and of the brilliance of the man, Chopin. It is absolutely one of the most beautiful and moving pieces of music ever composed! Where are our Chopin's and Lizst's and Beethoven's and Mozart's? Will we ever have these kinds of composers again? Like or leave people! For all the other interpretations there are other pianists. This is Lang Lang and this is his interpretation. The one and only universal way to play a piece doesn't exist and is rather (a) personal (experience).

Hendrix is rock. Chopin is classical. People play classical pieces enjoying it their own way. But to overdo it with a classical piece is kinda fake. Yundi Li's playing was great for this piece especially his playing in 14th International Chopin competition in 2000. His playing there made me start to love Chopin

Also the playing at the end of "the Pianist" was great too. I applauded at the end with audience. Does anyone know who played it?

personally i prefer yudi li. i think he is a really artist. but for me lang lang is only a business show guy who wants always to do something new and different from other pianists. he is playing music without composer's spirit, but only his own business-show character! schade eigentlich....
