Montages are a good way to gain interest but you need a staple content that will keep people coming. If you only made montages then we would get 1 video every so often and people will lose interest quickly.

There are only a few people who got name out there from montages (yourself, Butter, etc). TO truly get ur name out there, you have to beat good teams; not just record flashy/usually lucky clips.

Personally I wouldn't sub to someone based on a montage. Anyone can get "clips" if they play enough. Prefer to hear what they have to say and sub based on that. I'm probably in a minority though. People love those flashy montages!!

Iceman rose to where he is now for two reasons - he was one of the first uploaders of gears of war sniper montages, and he was in xfycnx.

Back then, people knew who was in fycn, and your montages just kept growing. Nowadays, youtube is so saturated with different uploaders, you just need a lucky break, that's all it is. Top plays won't help much, your best bet is thinking of something unique, and sticking to it. One off videos with lots of views don't get you subs.

I'm not 100% sure that you HAVE to make montages to get noticed. I have 1300 subs and I literally 1 montage and it is BAD because I don't tend to go for clips. I do agree that it is a great way to get bigger, but not 100% needed.

Everything you said iceman is very true. i couldn't keep up with the standards with my montages and i only made GoP twice in like 2009. People can bitch about it all they want but the standards that iceman is talking about are exactly what people expect to see in a montage. That's why i came up with my own series recently...a lot less pressure than producing montages.

You can get big a few ways.

1. Connections(The People you know)

2. Comedy(Everybody Loves a comedian, But you got to have the skills to back it up.)

3. Commentary(You got to have Topics, tell people whats on your mind.)

4. Quality(Theres no way your getting big with Cellphone toaster quality.)

Sometimes starting out you have to do that and you'll draw an editor in or can show an editor you're interested in working with, It's how I pulled an editor for my third montage which should be coming out in a few weeks.
