Every version of Soft Machine had it's particular brilliance. My favorite was Wyatt, Ratledge, Hopper and Dean; but I would never disregard other incarnations. There is just too much musicianship and soul within their world to make negative comments. It's only a matter of personal taste.
Apparently so - at least for the narrow-minded, arrogant haters out there. Why such hateful comments are on such sites as this is just incredibly sad. Seems that such people's extreme, ego-driven narcissism compels them to make international asses of themselves, here on YouTube.
This is from Soft Machine 7. There most "commercially" accessible album but highly musical, excellent production, and great compositions. As seen from the video, this band was tight!!
"Riff" from Six and "Down the Road" from Seven. Very interesting period in the history of the group; you can almost sense the transition towards a different style on Bundles.
great footage - thanks. any chance you could contact my channel with contact email interested in your vid's. will be uploading in near future, some excellent footage, including softs material. FATHERFOCUS - please contact channel with contact
email and more info on your softs material - HP & 1 to 5 on VHS ? thanks.
Just gone away Hugh Hopper, Roy Babbington has substitued with Fender bass six strings, the period is between album six and seven, the first song belong at Six album, the second at Seven... today it is as classic music, great.
So, You have few dvd of sm with Holdsworth line up? (Bundles? Hazard Profile?)... I guess 'Hazard Profile' was the initial correct name for the Holdsworh line up...
Thanks for all the footage of Soft Machine & Matching Mole you've been posting here. It is really quite unique material, that never has seen the light before.
Although with Hopper gone, following Dean and Wyatt, the decay of SM is already very well audible and visible in this one.
One point though: the video runs ahead of the audio, and that's a pity.
Since you probably have the original broadcast on a HD-recorder, you may consider reconverting it, in a proper way?
mike ratledge is a fucking genius. light years ahead of many so called virtuosos.

what type of organ does mike ratledge use in the first tune? i really like that sound
crissis76 4 years ago
hi,Mike Ratledge used a Lowrey organ connected with a "fuzz" effect.
This is the typical sound of soft machine (period 1967-1975)
