Whovever owns that color footage of the Beatles in Hamburg with pete Best is either a very rich man or just extremely fucking lucky to say "I saw them then".
the first song is pretty tame, i'm guessing the second is more typical for them at this time, the screaming , the heavy drum beat, the attack on the rhythm guitar, just perfect!
I love that sudden bashful smile from George at the 1:00 min mark (a girl from the front row must have been making eyes at him), & then he suppresses it swiftly and continues to play with great concentration. Their energy and chemistry was so visible even then.Wish I'd been around in Hamburg and Liverpool with them at this time. My favorite 4 boys.
in the george harrison film living in the material world they have the same hamburg video with sound on it, its hard 2 belive we now have color fotage of the Beatles in hamburg with sound
Incredible clips! Thank you! And you definitely want to get Pete's "Best of the Beatles" DVD too. Pete has some great anecdotes about their trips to Hamburg, and the Casbah - Where its interesting to note that Paul painted the ceiling of one room and John painted another - still there to this day. He also talks about poor George getting a smack in the eye, because Ringo took his place. He felt bad for George, who didn't deserve the ire of the Beatles fans, over his firing.
This was Ringo's second show with them after Eppy fired Pete Best. John married Cynthia the next morning as she was now pregnant. After this performance, George was head-butted by a Teddy giving him a black eye because there was certain lashing out for firing Pete Best. In this recording, during the cheering, you are supposed to hear someone scream, "We want Pete!" @2:01. With all that surrounding them, look at their professionalism and composure. "The show must go on." - John Lennon
My birthday is on August 22th!!!! Feel so glad now lol
Oh and God knows how hard I dance to 'Some other Guy'...everytime I hear that song,I just can't contain myself from twisting and shouting to it,their rock n' roll voices are magic, orgasmic i would say XD and then some people wonder what's all that big fuss about the Beatles...uhh they really dont have a bloody idea of what they're missing.
LONG LIVE THE BEATLES! JOHN&PAUL&GEORGE&RINGO FOREVER!
this is the day before john and cynthia got married and also when this was none as the earliest footage of the beatles it was realy cool becuase the first footge and the last footage of the beatles was on august 22 but when they found the footage of them in febuary 1962 it kind of ruined the thing about the first and last footage of the beatles on the same day diffrent years
"Some Other Guy" was an appropriate title -- they'd fired Pete Best less than a week prior to making this film. Some other guy now was on the drums -- Ringo.
Glad to see though that Pete's career is flourishing now. Just played Memphis as part of the celebrations of Elvis's 75th birthday.
Just an update on the "Hamburg" footage. The footage is most likely from February 10, 1962 at St. Paul's Church Hall in Birkenhead. Then again, not enough info has surfaced to confirm this, but Pete Best himself says that St. Paul's is most likely the gig.
@Rick36561 Judging by photos of the groups shows at The Tower Ballroom, I doubt that's where the footage is from. The stage looks alot different. Besides, The Tower Ballroom isn't in Hamburg.
@Appleholic1 i think he had already joined the band, because at the end of the song during the applause, you can hear someone shout "We want Pete!" so.... yeah :) and cause it's in '62
So very difficult to state the historical significance of this clip. This concert and Shea are perhaps the most iconic moments of Beatlemania. Honest, it just doesn't get any better than this. Pete leaves the stage and Ringo enters. And the rest, as they say, is history.
@newmoonamazing22 The chant was "Hell no Ringo must go" because at that point Pete Best was the favorite drummer and what happened as they were leaving the club someone took a swing at George Harrison and gave him a shiner. If you do a little research there are pic's of George at Abby Road during there first recording session with the black eye.
in response to Burco1 - the 22 August 1962 footage of the Beatles at the Cavern Club was filmed by a Granada Television film crew from Manchester as a segment for a magazine programme called "Know the North". So it represents the first Professional film footage of the Beatles and it featured "Kansas City" and "Some Other Guy". Apparently amidst the applause for "Some Other Guy" a cry of "we want Pete" can be heard.
I have always been curious about this video shoot from The Cavern in 1962. Does anyone know the circumstances behind the footage? Certainly the Beatles were on the rise at this point. Who shot the footage and does anymore exist other that "Some Other Guy? Thanks.

@minicrow9 Thank you very much. How can I see the Kansas City segment. I'll try Youtube. That is too funny about the "We Want Pete" statement. I never noticed it until you mentioned. I'm sure Pete dosn't mind hearing it! LOL.
This early footage is amazing. Most of we who were around when The Beatles splashed into American culture only got to see who they were by the time they got to us. These earlier videos give us a glimpse into The Beatles before they became our number one band of all time!
What kind of guitar is George playing in the color footage? Looks ilke one similar to what John used early also. You can tell all , for the beatles look a bit nervous.
i cant believe im saying this but i miss john. i know hes been rude to me and everyone else, but that was him, his personality. i still considered him as a great friend of mine! rest in peace john, i loved ya and i miss ya!
Judging by Ringo's hair as he boards the plane, this looks like at least mid '62, before he changed the Teddy Boy look. This is good stuff! I just saw Paul in Denver a few months ago and he is nearly as playful in 2010 as he appears in this clip.
I Met The Quarry Men And Im Going to go see there show its wonderful that there still playing, long live the beatles and awesomeee fotage and 4 beiber fans.
And if there is some footage of them that surfaces, then pete best may not be playing drums, as he pulled a few sickes and ringo or another drummer stood in for him.
Come on all you germans search your attics you may have had an avid film maker in your family who was living in hamburg 1960-1962.
