i cant believe it, a month and a half ago i watched her warm up with frodo at dressage (red hills) and i was just admiring him, and now hes gone. so many horses have died in the past few months, its so sad!
Thank you. On Friday I was so struck by how different she was than the other riders. She had the biggest smile all though warmup, and was the only rider I saw come out of the arena and go over to fans to take photos and let them pet Frodo. We need role models like that- I hope she'll compete again.
That's so sad that her horse, along with another horse both had to be euthenized this year. Eventing is a dangerous sport and it has risks that come with it and all of the riders fully understand that. The loss of frodo will be felt for quite a while. I didn't see the fall but know people who did and they said it was because she didn't get her strides right. I hope she recovers quickly. My thoughts are with her and her family.
I agree with Matrix. Frodo was my favorite at the Rolex this year, I was at the duck pond waiting to see them when it happened. I was shocked and saddened to hear they fell. Seeing how it happened exactly, is something to learn from, it also gives people an idea of just what eventers risk. My heartfelt condolences on the loss of a gorgeous and talented horse. My thoughts and prayers go out to Laine and her family.
You don't need to see graphic video of a horse dying and a rider being critically injured to "learn" to ride better. Do you watch deadly car accidents to learn how to avoid them? Watch video of people being shot to avoid being shot?
The truth is people are just desensitized to violence and want to see the trauma of the accident for their own enjoyment. Kudos to YouTube for taking the high road.
It was an 8 second video of a horse running to a jump, and horribly not making it over. Hardly a "graphic video of a horse dying".
Did you make a bigger fuss over the news broadcast of 9-11? That was 10x more graphic and did in fact show death. Nascar replaying a fatal crash 40 times on national tv, backwards, forwards, slow motion...
it doesn't give eventing bad publicity, people know the risks involved in XC jumping and etc.. it just tells them the risks that are involved the bad, and sometimes the worst risks ever.. the fact is.. the video's will get out eventually .. I do 3-day eventing too..and I'm sad when I see falls, and accidents..but you learn from them.. I hope she pulls through okay.. to bad for her horse.. I was hoping he would be pull through.
this was lovely. thank you. there is a video out there of her fall, and i find it sickening that it should be relieved over and over again. not to mention it gives our sport bad publicity.
I frieve for the loss of a fine eventing team, specifically for the loss of a fantastic horse and the difficult road facing Laine now.
People will believe our sport is dangerous regardless of what they see or hear. This accident was simply that... an accident. Something as simple as not getting our strides. Best of luck Laine... to you and your family.
i know laine ashker i went to her barn crow ear barn and my friend jessica rode her horse seajack. she is amazing and a really great rider.
