  • Yes!! His sensitive expression makes me want to listen to him over and over. He really is one of the greatest artists. "Lascia ch'io pianga " is my personal favorite....all the problems in my life does not matter anymore when I listen to him.....simply ... breath taking. I've never known that classical music can touch my heart so closely, thank you for posting.

  • didn't know the mad hatter can sing so beautifully haha. :D

  • Outstanding!!!

  • This is really cool. Really interesting sounding. I am glad that I am not the only one.

  • çok beğendim bir ses :)

  • che ridicola parrucca.

  • che ridicola paricca.

  • This is wonderful to listen and to watch ;-)

  • Bravo, Paisá !!!!!

  • I have real difficulties to get used to these modern , conceptual scenographies....

  • The outfit of Carroll's Mad Hatter, but the voice of Philippe Jaroussky

  • beetlejuice beetlejuice beetlejuice !!

  • VISUAL MODERNO E ARROJADO, GOSTEI MUITO.

VOZ DA PERSONAGEM DE JAROUSSKY... EXCELENTE, COMO SEMPRE.

    INTERPRETAÇÃO SURREAL.

  • He definitely could have wore a better wig.

  • His outfit reminds of me Queen's "Innuendo" album. I know that is what they where going for, oh it would be great to hear him do the track "I'm going slightly mad" in this style. The theme is obviously different but the performance would be unique enough to be enjoy able.

  • I love the costume and the concept, I think it's really fresh!

  • It pains me to see Jaroussky in such a silly costume. He's better than this. lol. Great singing though. No matter what he's wearing his singing is magical.

  • @ScientiaVeritasEtLux I think the costume is incredibly inventive. It's different and fun , but still true to the baroque roots of this production.

  • Whats wrong with the costume? He's wearing purple that a royal colour. THE royal colour

  • Nero is being depicted as a sort of clown - he is the Mummy's boy who can do nothing without her advice. In this scene, he is acting like a generous man fit to be an emperor, because his mon told him to do so.

I have watched this DVD so many times and the horrible costumes and makeup no longer bothers me now. I only hear PJ's wonderful voice.

  • I want his costume.

    & hear him sing live.

  • I usually am not a fan of modern productions, but I must admit that I actually am not too flabbergasted by this one. I do not know the opera, but I really must admit that that costume makes Nero look like an absolute madman!

  • I agree, this is rather ridiculous. I am all for new interpretations, but his is rather gaudy, at best.

  • How could they do this to Handel? I understand the lushness of the Baroque stage isn't in vogue, but God, does everything have to be an interpretive post modern mess?

  • i watch this video cca 20x und he is better and better

  • HIs voice is ethereal and amazing, but that costume... I mean he's supposed to be playing Emperor Nero, so wtf were they thinking?

  • Such beautiful music is only distracted by a ridiculous costume.

One looks more than one listens. pity.

  • bravo!!!

  • I love this tongue-in-the-cheek performance. This is one of my best favourite DVDs.

  • Beautiful performance, but Jaroussky looks like Robespierre in that costume.

  • LOL that's what I thought too. :D

Really an awesome voice. The costume would be okay if... if he wasn't wearing... that wig...

  • That wig is an interpretation of Baroque, without the wig, there's nothing represents the Baroque period on this stage. I think the stage designer is experimenting without respect for the era. But I love Mr. Jaroussky's performance as always, even with that (madman) wig ... LOL!!!

  • mmmmm

where is Cornelia?? Neeeeeeeeel tuo seeeeeenooooo amicco sasso (8)

    Love this Haendelian autocopies ;)

  • I like how he says "prendi" to musicians :)

  • esta ridiculo con ese pelucon

  • it is just part of the show. greetings

  • dude is incredible

  • Haha, that hair is wonderfulXD

  • @athiria Yap, soldier should have that hair style and wars will be over.

(Cause it´s no serious hate and kill with such hair) :)

  • yeah, i'm really digging the voice and the costume/staging, truth be told...

  • so do I! at first I was astonished then doubtful but now I am a complete fan !

  • @PoseidonRM:

I feel close to you, it's nearly the same with me. But today was the first day I heard something from him and I was so touched from this angelic voice that I could not stop listening to him.

    He's really great!

Who cares if his performance is different or "freaky", huh? I do not. I'm melting hearing this voice.

  • I love his voice but the guy behind hims cares me

  • its the mono brow

  • Jaroussky is gorgeous as ever but someone please turn the video OFF. Or, better, kill whoever is responsible for this scenography. I've seen two operas with Jaroussky recently, and I'm wondering: does the poor boy ever get normal looks on stage?

  • still you must admit the outfit is quite spectacular!!

  • Freaking A.

    Kyou!.

  • huh?!

  • I mean... you are right XD

    Kyou!.

  • A week ago I had never heard of this guy, now I listen to nothing else. He's so great!

  • @ PoseidonRM

Io l'ho scoperto solo ora ma penso che anche io ne approfitterò molto, un personaggio molto interessante!

  • I wonder, what would happen if Master Hândel gets up from his grave and see this?...Don't the interpreters have something to say about it. This affects their imagine too if you come to think about it. Thank God I came to know Jaroussky while he was performing in Germany a couple of years ago, and not while watching these videos. I would not be enjoying his interpretations the way I do know.

  • increible

  • I actually quite like the staging.

Jaroussky's hair and costume make him out to be a crazy and funny figure, why is his song so sad? That simple (and to be quite frank, often used contrast) contradiction makes it all the more interesting.

The minimalistic scenography creates a more meditative expression. The music has a pure canvas to enter and fill, and with such an orchestra and such a voice, the audience, if eyes and ears are open, will be in for a treat.

  • More than anything, I'm reminded of Struwwelpeter, the picturebook boy who refused to have his hair combed or cut, out of contrariness. Rather suits the character, I'd say.

There's also a bit of Miles from Britten's Turn of the Screw in there, I think, the kind of twisted branch Miles might have grown into, had he lived that long. I'm half expecting Nero to launch into the Malo Song.

  • Lol, yes Shaggy-Peter! Or maybe Edward Scissorhands? But Eddie couldn't sing this sweetly.

  • The most angelic voice and the most ridiculous settings and costumes!I still don't understand what was in their heads. Handel is trying to get out of his grave and kill the scenographer, I'm telling you!

  • Mmmm. Gorgeous voice.

Also, should an opera about Queen ever get off the ground, it appears we've already found us a wigmaker to take care of whoever gets cast as Brian May.

  • Lol that is true :)

  • Simply amazing. What a beautiful and moving voice ...

  • Moving it is, and sweet, and dramatic, and perfect, and amazing, and wisely used, and......aah, I'm out of expressions;D I just love listening to it...
