ok so if capaldi was already a drummer? why did they recruit jim gordon and then roger hawkins to take over on drums? unless they wanted the band to grow? eh who cares traffic is amazing!
Does anyone know if the concert has been released on DVD? I saw it a few years ago at Virgin Mega on Sunset on VHS and I should have bought it then. Unfortunately, I was still a little kid a the time. In fact, this concert was just five days before my sixth birthday. RIP Jim, Chris and Reebop.
I lived in London in 1972 when I was 20 years old. Jim Capaldi used to bring in his 35mm film to me for d&p. Super friendly nice guy. The band weren't too shabby either.
I NEVER thought I'd like a "live" version of this, as compared to a studio version but I give this a 3R Rating....Righteous, Radical and Right-On! Thank YOU!
Super supergroup! As Rolling Stone wrote once, this band had talent to burn. Stevie is prolly my favorite Hammond player, plays world-class electric & acoustic guitar, has a golden voice and is a great songwriter/composer. Then there's Jim Capaldi, Chris Wood, Rebop, etc.
I saw Trafic in Boston in 71 or 72, I saw them two nights in a row , Steve played a blue strat and did one the best guitar solos ending up on knees in front of band. They were the most professional /polished full sound band i ever heard. Roxy Music was a close second i saw them in 78 at the same Boston Music Hall...Wore out these LP's as a young lad
@1954telecaster chris wood jumps on keys for this number, all of them extremely talented, winwood once cut a studio album, (Arc of the Diver) playing all the instruments and doing his own backing vocals. love the days when there were actually musicians who card about the music, traffic was one of those groups
@fistjitsu Awesome, enjoy. When I discovered Traffic in the 80's I listened to the album The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys about a billion times in 6 months. Great band.
@tomthefunky...David Hood from Muscle Shoals Sound? If so, he was part of the famous "Swampers" (as Skynyrd referred to them as.) With Jimmy Johnson ect.... man, what an incredibly talented crew! They sure left their mark on music!...
Yeah, that would be "little David from Louisiana" as Mavis Staples called him. That's his partner Roger Hawkins on drums. Hawkins was most proud of the hi-hat "shump" he introduced on Mustang Sally in '65. True professionals from the old school. They still make guys like these, but there's far fewer of them today.
Stevie, wearing out the band. Too bad they shut him down at the end. Awesome guitar. The singer looks like he is faking it. He is only good for the tambourine.
Stevie spent a lot of time playing with the likes of Clapton and Hendrix and others and so there is no wonder the guy plays guitar like he does. Truly another one of
the underrated guitarists out there. I love the way he jams on these songs and on dear mr fantasy.
Sort of like say Prince... until you've seen some of the stuff he can do ( not related to his own music per se but in his jams at tributes and hall of fame intro
duction ceremonies etc. he is also extremely talented guitarist.
@thekeifernet I agree, I saw a video of prince playing while my guitar gently weeps, and you wouldnt believe how well he can play a guitar, FANTASTIC.!
I still have all my Traffic albums from back then. I think I made a pretty good choice for a twelve year old. These tune sound just as good today as they did when the first came out.

Winwood normally does all the singing. This is the exception where Capaldi sings lead vocal.

Jim Capuldi wrote and is signing this song. Winwood is seen at 3:37 and you can see he is not the lead singer.

Country Joe and the Fish may have coined "rock and soul", but Traffic owned it. Great stuff, produce it differently and it would be awesome.
