@DynamiteKiwi If you're adding special effects to a movie, it goes without saying that you'll need the software. There are a lot of open source (free) alternatives online, just Google "open source" or "open source alternative." As for green screen setups, I've seen quite a few inexpensive ways to set up the backdrop on YouTube. Hope this is helpful.

if you think $100-$500 for a quality on-set prop is "crazy" you are un-informed at best. I took into account the nature of these videos (being for amateur filmmakers) but still recommend the budget go up for professional grade materials. Sure there are a lot of fanboys watching these, but there are also presumably a lot of serious artists of all forms interested as well. As a professional, my hourly wage is between $30-$60 an hour, similar to any professional service.
